     In our last NRA Defensive Pistol class, the students
were initially wiggling their pistols around to avoid
shooting through their concealment garments when firing
from the close contact position with one hand.  This
wastes time and is dangerous.  This bad habit must be
broken by correct training.
     We require that the students bring a disposable
concealment garment for use during this exercise.  Have
them stop by Goodwill and pick up an over sized Aloha
shirt.  If the student neglects to bring such a shirt,
we give the student such a shirt to use, because forming
bad habits is antithetic to our training.
     If done properly, a fast competent presentation
from the holster to the close contact position with one
hand will result in shooting through the closed front
concealment garment, and may result in a shot through
an open front concealment garment.
     The student must not use their support side hand
to clear the garment, because this runs the risk of
shooting their support side hand.
     Explain to the student that this is realistic
training.  No mugger is going start his attack from
across the parking lot.  He will be within touching
distance before giving any sign of hostility.  So,
you must be competent to shoot from close contact.
