----- Mindset -----
Figuring out the correct way to think.

You won't have time to load your pistol.  You certainly won't have time to get your
pistol if it is not on your body.  To think otherwise is delusional.

‟We don’t decide what is necessary to survive a
lethal force encounter initiated by someone else.
That person decides what’s necessary for us to survive.”
– William Aprill

"Trendy or Noteworthy? (Part I)" by Dave Spaulding
Hat tip to Greg Ellifritz.
Excerpt:
Remember, fighting is final.  If you engage in combat, you run the risk of
being hurt or killed.  It’s not a video game.  There is no way to engage in nice
fighting.  There is no room for “politically correct” in this arena.  I fear that
some American cops and armed citizens have reached a time when force is
preferably “minimal” instead of “objectively reasonable.”  On the other end
of the spectrum, some want to use military-style, battle zone tactics in domestic
conflict.  The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in several landmark cases – and
it’s written in many state statutes -- that force must be reasonable, but how
many cases do you know of in which police officers used reasonable force only
to get thrown under the bus?

"Trendy or Noteworthy? (Part II)" by Dave Spaulding
Excerpt:
"Any technique that will be used to save your life must be applied without
a great deal of concentration and effort.  In a situation that will last but a few
seconds, there isn't time to observe, orient, decide and act.  Many believe you
must cycle through the entire loop, which isn't true."
"This training program is well-chronicled and it’s clear that they didn’t
receive the amount of training time that is currently committed to today’s
police cadets in the basic academy.  The difference was that great pains
were taken to eliminate anything that wasn’t needed and to keep what was
taught straight-forward and simple.  Again, simple is easy to teach, practice,
master and maintain with minimal time and effort. Sometimes, less is more."
"It’s not inhumane, it’s merely force, and the use of force will always
be ugly, destructive, brutal and bloody.  The best you can do is to make
sure you are using it appropriately."

If you haven't decided to act.  You won't.

‷If you look at someone bigger, faster, and stronger and immediately think,
‶I'm at a disadvantage″,
I have news for you:  you are.
But that's only because you just put yourself there for no reason.
The truth is that anyone can do debilitating violence to anyone else.
Your size, your speed, your strength, your gender --
all the factors that untrained people think make the difference when it comes to violence --
all matter far less than your mindset and your intent.‴

How to avoid being taken by surprise.

“You need to have the capacity for danger.
You need to be ‘dangerous’.  Yet, you need to

And, that is not the same thing as being harmless.
     There's nothing virtuous about harmlessness.
Harmless just means you’re ineffectual and useless.”

----- Safety -----
How to prevent the bad thing from happening in the first place.
How to avoid shooting yourself, friendlies, and innocent bystanders.

Jeff Cooper′s Rules of Gun Safety
RULE I:  ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED.
RULE II:  NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER
ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY.
RULE III:  KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER
UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET.
RULE IV:  BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET.

You should also be aware of anyone who may move in front of your target.
Untrained persons do stupid things when they panic in high stress situations.
So, as the trained person, it is your responsibility to avoid shooting the
innocent bystanders.

Excerpts:
"Speak to the stranger through the door, but don’t open it."
"Some may argue that simply not answering the stranger on your doorstep is
the best policy.  I disagree.  Many home invasions begin as a simple burglary in
which a single criminal, or multiple criminals, invade a home under the
presumption that nobody is home.  By letting it be known that the house is
indeed occupied you immediately reduce the likelihood of the breach."

"The PROBLEM with a Thumb Safety on a Pistol" by Warrior Poet Society
---
Pistols don't need active safeties (thumb safeties) because the holster is the safety.
Long guns don't generally have holsters, so they need active (manual safeties).
Passive safeties (automatically defeated with a proper grip and trigger press)
don't require any additional intentional actions.  So, they are better, for pistols.

your phone, you are not driving.  This also means it’s your job to ensure that
the vehicle is clean inside and out and functioning well.  Make sure the
engine passes inspection, test all of the doors and locks, and ask for assistance
if you’re unfamiliar with an item or its use.  You must account for all
emergency equipment and verify that it functions.  And you must drive to save
your life or the lives of your passengers if necessary."

Excerpt:
"Yet, let us not be foolishly naïve about real (and increasing) personal risks
that attach to all political, as well as religious, activities in 2024."
---
Let us never confuse "safety" with "no risk".  As Farnam says,
personal risk attaches to all religious activities.

"Unprepared!" by John Farnam

"The homeowner in this case (obviously) had no lethal-force training,
had no idea of what he was doing, and is now experiencing dire consequences!"
"Never unlock and open your door for people of whose motives you are suspicious."
"Had the exact-same shot, at the exact-same moment, been “intentional,”
this homeowner would probably have had a strong case for legitimate self-defense,
and thus may not have even been charged.  However, the contention of “self-defense”
is only available to you in an intentional shooting.  In an accidental shooting,
the argument for “self-defense” will not be allowed, as this homeowner is belatedly
discovering!"

“Slow is smooth. Smooth is efficient. Efficient is fast.”
Slow is smooth (because you can control what you're doing).
Smooth is efficient (because controlling what you are doing removes inefficiencies).
Efficient is fast (because there is no wasted motion).
Fast is good (because whoever HITS first usually wins).

"More Red Dot Tips" by SLG
Excerpt:
If you can’t hold 6″ at 25 yards, you are not serious about shooting,
even at a fairly basic level.  Most professional gun-toters can’t do this.
It doesn’t mean you can’t defend yourself, it just means that you need
to work on your basic marksmanship.  A medium level of skill would
be more in the sub 5″ range.  If you are looking to master the gun,
somewhere around 2″ is your goal.  All of the above assumes 5 shot
groups at 25 yards, shooting offhand.

suspect or victim, and the total unpredictability of the situation itself."
"Not everything you confront can be solved by direct gunfire,
when absolute unwavering precision and mental composure in concert
with experience are called for.  It is equally important to know when
not to shoot as it is when to shoot."

"STAIRWAY TO PERFORMANCE" by Steve Tarani
Excerpt:
"It’s a remarkably simple concept and you say to yourself
“Yeah, I get it, it’s simple. Anyone can do it!”
You are correct in its simplicity and that anyone,
given the right amount of training and experience,
can do it.  However, it cannot be accomplished without
converting your intellectual familiarity to physical skill.
You may understand it as a simple concept,
but building the skill to pull it off physically, comfortably,
and repeatably is a completely different story.

in jail may not be something to want to experience.  Remember Jeffery Epstein.  He
couldn't survive; and he was rich, powerful, and connected.  The prison guards are not
going to protect you.  The prison guards killed Epstein.  That's why they (including the
Warden) were all transferred to other facilities.  That's how they "fire" civil servants.
They can't fire them, so they transfer them to bumfuck Egypt.  The civil servant refuses
to go, so he resigns to avoid being fired for not going.  But if you're doing a job for the

"IS AN EMPTY CHAMBER DANGEROUS?" by Massad Ayoob
Excerpt:
"In other words, if I was faced off with my evil twin with identical gun and holster,
if his gun had a loaded chamber he would have gotten two or three shots into me
before I had racked the slide and gotten my first round going in his direction.
Fractions of a second mean a lot."
---
Racking the slide to load a cartridge into the chamber requires two hands.  You
won't have two hands.
"I can rack with one hand."
A one-handed rack requires something of the appropriate shape, rigidity, and
mass to rack against.  You won't have such a thing.  Muphy's Law guarantees it.
Murphy's Law:  Anything that can go wrong will go wrong, at the worst possible time.
Murphy's Law is a law of nature.  It doesn't matter whether or not you believe
in Murphy's Law.  Like gravity, Murphy's Law doesn't care what you believe.
The only way to defeat Murphy's Law is to eliminate anything that can go wrong.
So always carry with a round in the chamber.  You won't have time to load.
And you certainly won't have time to get your pistol if it is not on your body.

"Around the Water Cooler, Rants — Reholstering" by Rich Grassi
I was in a class with Tiffany Johnson, Aqil Qadir, et al at the Citizens Safety
Academy, and we had a rousing discussion about "holstering", as opposed to
"reholstering".  They convinced me that "to holster" your pistol means what you
think it means.  So the term "reholster" is incorrect word usage.

" “Cheating” The Draw With The Pre-Aim" by Mike Ox

Excerpt from an email from a friend --
". . .  I finally ordered one of the bore sights that is sized and shaped to feed into
the chamber and checked it, and it went to where I naturally point the weapon but
way off from where I'd had to adjust the sights, so I'm obviously doing something
when I'm at the range to push the firearm slightly left for which I could roughly
compensate for by adjusting the sights (at least I was consistent!).  The bore sight
also has a dry fire function (i.e., a momentary on when struck by the firing pin),
so I will be working with that so I can get this worked out.  I wondered if it might
be the thin grips, but I've had other pistols with thin grips (a couple 1911s and the
infamous Remington R51) and not had this issue before, so I'm not sure what I'm
doing differently with this handgun.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you.
--Mark"
---
Hi Mark,
Don't move the sights until you are able to shoot 5 rounds through one ragged
hole at 3 yards (5 yards if you're really salty).  Until you can shoot a tight group,
you're not consistent enough for the sight adjustments to have any effect.  Moving
the sights would just be chasing your tail.
To get the tight group, you must master the surprise trigger break.  The surprise
break defeats all of your autonomic nervous system responses (push, jerk, flinch,
freeze, etc.) to the report and recoil.  Scattering your shots to the left (or sometimes
low left) for a right handed shooter is you pushing against the anticipated recoil.
It is a natural learned reaction to the recoil.  The way to defeat this autonomic
nervous system response is to not let your brain know exactly when the round will
be fired.  That way, the bullet will be out of the muzzle before your body reacts to
the recoil and report.  That is the surprise break.
There are many different techniques for achieving a surprise break.  The simplest
that I have found is as follows:
Grip tight.  Maintain that grip pressure.  (A common mistake is to increase grip
pressure while pressing the trigger.  That would cause the pistol to move off the target.
Mike Seeklander says, grip first, then press the trigger.)
Touch the trigger.  Because you need to find out where the trigger is.  It might not
be where you think it is, because in a high stress situation, you might not get a
perfect grip.
Take the slack out of the trigger.  (Yanking the trigger through the slack drastically
reduces accuracy.)  Now when you release the shot, the movement of the pistol due to
the trigger movement will be minimized.
Apply 1 pound of pressure to the trigger.  Apply 2 pounds of pressure.
Apply 3 pounds of pressure.  Apply 4 pounds of pressure.  Apply 5 pounds of pressure.
The pistol will fire long before you get to 5 pounds.  And because you did not intend
to fire the shot, you will get a surprise break.  And the point of impact will be correct.
Do this 5 times.  If you get all 5 bullets though one ragged hole, then it makes sense
to move the sights.
This may seem like a long complex process.  But with practice, it will compress
in time and become very fast.  Eventually, you won't remember that you are doing
this shot process.  It will just happen automagically.
Cheers,
Jon

You think the Sheriff Deputies are going to protect you in jail?  What planet
are you living on?
The Red Cross won't accept you blood donation if you've been in jail?
Do you understand why?
I know of a case in which the cops castrated the suspect in jail.  The cops were
never prosecuted.  A judge threw out the civil law suit.  The suspect had been
arrested for rape, but another judge dismissed with prejudice because the
responding-officer / arresting-officer was the boyfriend of the woman being "raped".
Wouldn't it have been better to shoot the arresting officer before the officer made
the arrest?  How much are your testicles worth?  As they taught us in the
Marine Corps, once you surrender, it's torture and death.  So, never surrender.

If the U.S. Appellate Courts protect criminal LEOs with blanket qualified immunity,
maybe the solution is to put the criminal LEO down and walk away.
It may be worth the risk to avoid enduring a 23 hour cell in federal prison for years.
(That will destroy your mental health in short order.)  Everyone dies.  But taking out
criminal LEOs is rare heroism.  And a great community service.  In the end, we all
answer to God.
I have had the misfortune of being forced to work with criminal LEOs.  It is essential
to distance yourself from them; physically and organizationally.  Because they attract
other criminals that you will have to deal with.  Birds of a feather flock together.  Just
as homosexuals, they recognize each other and choose to associate with like minded
persons.  They will recognize that you are honest and so will eventually attempt to kill
you because they cannot tolerate your presence, as it jeopardizes their criminal activities.
Remember, Serpico?  He wouldn't take the money.  The other New York police officers,
who were all on the take, could not abide that.
Yes, I realize that in combat zones, it is easier to kill them and walk away.  Yes, . . .
Of course, you are wondering why didn't the agency that deputized the LEO as a
federal LEO, fire and prosecute the criminal LEO.  Because law enforcement agencies
protect their own as long as the LEO is on the agency's side; advancing the agenda of
the agency, amassing more power to the agency, doing the agency's bidding.  Only
those who have in some way betrayed the agency, such as whistle blowers or those
who got greedy and are taking money from unapproved sources, are prosecuted.
The agents may extort from the weak, but they may not take bribes from the powerful
(Russian oligarchs for instance).  Because that threatens loyalty to the agency.

All students have notions when they come to your class.  It is up to you to
dissuade them of the bad notions and to instill good notions.  Who knows where
they get these notions (TV, movies, internet, friends).  It doesn't matter.
I had a right-handed student who wanted to carry in a purse.  I said, during our
training, she would have to carry on the belt.  She wanted to carry at a five o'clock
position, well behind the protrusion of her hip bone (because the holster hurt her
hip bone, I assured her that we would find an appropriate holster that would be
comfortable, but we would make-do for now), but not quite to the small of
her back.  She was having difficulty presenting and holstering (past injuries,
arthritis, etc.).  So we moved the holster to an appendix carry position at
one o'clock.  Miracles!  Enlightenment!  Epiphany!

Excerpt from "The Writing Thief" by Ruth Culham
ISBN-10 ‏ : ‎ 1625311419
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-1625311412
The Key Qualities for Each Writing Trait
     Ideas:  The piece's content
•  Finding a topic:  The piece has a clear, central theme or a simple, original story line
that is memorable.  If the piece has a title, that title captures that theme or story line
in an enticing way.
•  Focusing the topic:  The writer has narrowed a big issue or thesis to a reasonable,
manageable topic or distilled the story to a clear, tight narrative.
•  Developing the topic:  The writer provides enough critical evidence to support the
issue or thesis and shows insight on the topic, or tells the story in a fresh way.  The
ideas transcend the obvious and predictable.
•  Using details:  The details create pictures in the reader's mind and are plentiful
from beginning to end.  The writer's knowledge about and/or experience with the
topic is evident through the use of accurate details, credible information, and
believable anecdotes.
Organization:  The internal structure of the piece
•  Creating the lead:  The beginning grabs the reader's attention and leads him or her
into the piece naturally.  The beginning entices the reader to keep reading, providing
a tantalizing glimpse of what is to come.
•  Using sequence and transition words:  The piece contains a variety of carefully
selected sequences and transition words, which are placed wisely to guide the
reader through the text by showing how ideas progress, relate, and/or diverge.
•  Developing the body:  The piece is easy to follow because the details fit together
logically.  The writer slows down to spotlight important points or events and speeds
up when he or she needs to keep the reader moving along.
•  Ending with a sense of resolution:  The writer sums up his or her thinking in a
natural, thoughtful, and convincing way and has anticipated and answered any
lingering questions, giving the reader a strong sense of closure.
Voice:  The tone and tenor of the piece
•  Establishing a tone:  The piece shows how much the writer cares about the topic.
The piece is expressive and compelling, whereby the reader feels the writer's
conviction, authority, and integrity.
•  Conveying the purpose:  The reason for writing is clear.  The writer expresses his or
her point of view  appropriately for the form (narrative, expository, persuasive, or other),
which adds interest to the overall message.
•  Creating a connection to the audience:  There is a strong interaction between the reader
and the writer.  The writer has considered what the reader needs to know and the best way
to convey it by sharing his or her feelings an opinions about the topic.
•  Taking risks to create voice:  The writer expresses ideas in new ways, which makes
the piece interesting, original, and fresh.  The writing sounds like the writer because
of the particular use of words and phrases taht have a "just right" effect.
Word choice:  The vocabulary the writer uses to convey meaning and enlighten
the reader
•  Using strong verbs:  The piece contains many action words, giving it punch and
pizzazz.  The writer has stretched to find lively verbs that add energy to the piece.
•  Using striking words and phrases:  The piece contains many finely honed words
and phrases that make it stand out.  The writer employs creative and effective use
of alliteration, similes, metaphors, and/or other literary techniques.
•  Using words that are specific and accurate:  The words are precise, often reflecting
content- or information-based vocabulary that the reader needs to understand the
message fully.  The writer has chosen nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and so forth
that create clarity and bring the topic to life.
•  Using language effectively:  The words have been selected to capture the reader's
imagination and enhance the piece's meaning.  A deliberate attempt to choose the
best word over the first word that comes to mind is evident.
Sentence fluency:  The way words and phrases flow through the piece
•  Capturing smooth and rhythmic flow:  The writer has thought about how the
sentences sound.  IF the piece were to be shared aloud, it would be easy on the
ear.  The writer uses phrasing that sounds almost musical and is therefore a joy
to read.
•  Crafting well-build sentences:  The sentences are carefully and creatively constructed
for maximum impact.  Transition words such as "but", "and", and "so" are used
successfully to join sentences and sentence parts.
•  Varying sentence patterns:  A variety of sentence types (simple, compound, and/or
complex) enhances the central theme or story line.  The piece is made up of an effective
mix of long, complex sentences and short, simple ones.
•  Breaking the "rules" to create fluency:  If the piece contains fragments, they add style.
The writer may use one word to accent a particular moment, such as , "Bam!"  If the
writer uses a conventional tone, the sentence might begin with informal words such
as "well", "and", or "but".  The writer breaks rules intentionally to make that dialogue
sound authentic.
Conventions:  The mechanical correctness of the piece
•  Checking spelling:  Sight words, high-frequency words, and even less familiar words
are usually spelled correctly.  When less familiar words are spelled incorrectly, they
are phonetically correct.  Overall, the piece shows control in spelling.
•  Using punctuation and indenting paragraphs:  The writer handles basic punctuation
skillfully.  He or she understands how to use punctuation to add clarity and style.
Paragraphs are indented in the right places.  The piece is ready for a general audience.
•  Inserting capitalization:  The use of capital letters is consistent and accurate.
An in-depth understanding of how to capitalize dialogue, abbreviations, proper names,
and titles is evident.
•  Applying grammar and usage:  Words and their prefixes and suffixes have been
combined to form grammatically correct phrases and sentences.  The writer shows
care in using the correct grammar and usage.  The writer may break rules of
Standard English for stylistic reasons but otherwise shows consistency and control.
Presentation:  The physical appearance of the piece
•  Applying handwriting skills:  The handwriting, whether printed or cursive, is clear
and legible.  Letters are uniform and slant evenly throughout.  The spacing between
words is consistent.
•  Using word processing:  The font style and size are easy to read and a good match
for the piece's purpose.  If color is used, it enhances the piece's readability.
•  Using white space:  Appropriately sized margins frame the text.  There are no
cross-outs, smudges, or tears in the paper.
•  Incorporating text features:  Text features are effectively placed on the page and
clearly align with the text that they support.

-- ‶Building Shooters″ by Dustin Salomon

I had a student who started crying after firing her first shot.  I advised her to put the
pistol down on the table and to take a few deep breaths.  I encouraged her to relax.
I would have been fine with stopping the lesson at that point.  But she chose to
continue.  (I try to give the student as much control of the situation as possible.)
She said that the full size steel (heavy) semi-auto pistol in 45 ACP that she was
using had too much recoil, and that she wanted to use the 38 Special
Smith & Wesson 642 Airweight Double-Action 5-shot revolver that she had brought.
(I was thinking, that's going to have a lot of recoil because it's a very light pistol.)
She didn't discover that, because she was physically incapable of pressing the
double action trigger to fire the pistol.
As long as it is safe, I find that it is better to let the student discover things for
herself, rather than being told.  If you tell a student something that they don't like
or don't agree with, it could cause resentment, which interferes with learning.

up.  We inserted pencils with the rubber eraser end down into our barrels.  Upon pressing
the trigger, all of the pencils shot up.  That's good, indicating a strong firing pin strike
and reliable primer ignition.
I was a  little surprised by my pistol's performance.  My SA XD usually shoots the
pencil up to the ceiling.  So when I got home, I changed the striker spring (with a

than the new spring.  The new spring popped the pencil up to the ceiling.  Life is good.

50% due to some sort of contamination.  Probably closer to 75% based on
other things.
Sex.  Free sex with a non-promiscuous person has a relatively low probability

"Lend Me Your Ear: Passive Remote Physical Side Channels on PCs"
Authors:
Daniel Genkin, Georgia Tech; Noam Nissan, Tel Aviv University;
Roei Schuster, Tel Aviv University and Cornell Tech;
Eran Tromer, Tel Aviv University and Columbia University
     31st USENIX Security Symposium
Abstract:
We show that built-in sensors in commodity PCs, such as microphones,
inadvertently capture electromagnetic side-channel leakage from ongoing
computation.  Moreover, this information is often conveyed by supposedly-benign
channels such as audio recordings and common Voice-over-IP applications, even
after lossy compression.
Thus, we show, it is possible to conduct physical side-channel attacks on
computation by remote and purely passive analysis of commonly-shared channels.
These attacks require neither physical proximity (which could be mitigated by
distance and shielding), nor the ability to run code on the target or configure its
hardware.  Consequently, we argue, physical side channels on PCs can no longer
be excluded from remote-attack threat models.
We analyze the computation-dependent leakage captured by internal
microphones, and empirically demonstrate its efficacy for attacks.  In one scenario,
an attacker steals the secret ECDSA signing keys of the counterparty in a voice call.
In another, the attacker detects what web page their counterparty is loading.  In the
third scenario, a player in the Counter-Strike online multiplayer game can detect a
hidden opponent waiting in ambush, by analyzing how the 3D rendering done by
the opponent's computer induces faint but detectable signals into the opponent's
audio feed.

CWP, 1 February MMXXIV Anno Domini

 Greetings Sheepdogs,
Train and practice.  Incompetence has tragic consequences.

May I highly recommend Iron Soldiers Coffee Company to you?
I especially like the Armored Car, which is a dark Italian roast.
I buy my coffee from them retail.  They don't give me anything.
They don't pay me.
They do support gun stuff like the Guardian Conference and
veteran care.
Cheers,
Jon

----- Mindset -----
Figuring out the correct way to think.

As a civilian defender, your goal is to ESCAPE!  This goal gives you the highest
probability of NOT GETTING HURT.  Not getting your loved ones hurt.  Not getting
innocent bystanders hurt.
If you're at a stage in life where no one loves you, no one depends on you,
no one would care if you died, and you don't care about spending the rest of your
life in a cage; then maybe some other goal might be possible.  But, it would not
be reasonable.
Ya, I saw "Gran Torino" with Clint Eastwood et al.  But, that was a Hollywood
movie, not reality.  It's all fun and games until the first shot.

‟We don’t decide what is necessary to survive a
lethal force encounter initiated by someone else.
That person decides what’s necessary for us to survive.”
– William Aprill

“The American Revolution was conceived in churches and taverns.
I think I’ll spend more time in both!”
-- Operator’s Adage
     "Adulthood" by John Farnam
Excerpts:
Lessons:
 1) When it’s least expected, you’re elected!
 2) In a personal-safety emergency, there will be no time to “get ready”.
Unless police are physically present already, there is zero probability
they’ll arrive in time to save you.
 3) Getting into a hand-to-hand fight with a person who is out-of-his-mind
is no laughing matter!
There is no “reasoning” with such a person.  They are unpredictable and
extremely dangerous, as we see.
 4) Thinking you’re “safe,” because you’re “at home,” or “close to home”
represents a dangerous delusion.
“Going armed” means “being armed,” continuously, without fail!
A gun sitting in a dresser drawer inside a home will be of no help when
the homeowner is attacked while outside, even when the gun is technically
only a few meters away.
 5) Our criminal/justice system, as currently administered, obviously has
no intention to fulfill its legitimate function of protecting innocent people
from violent criminals.  Demonstrably vicious predators, instead of being
jailed, are out and looking for victims, as we see!
---
Understand:
1) Life is hard.
2) Life is dangerous (and lethal; see point#8, below).
3) Life isn’t “fair”.
4) Life is not just about you.
5) You’re not that important.
6) You’re not in control.
7) Your excuses will never interest anyone.
8) You’re going to die.

"It's All Relative" by Kyle Lamb
Hat tip to Greg Ellifritz.
Excerpt:
"Normalcy is relative.  Normal for me is being surrounded by folks who are
ready to do what needs to be done.  They don't stand by and watch others take
care of business.  This group is not considered a strange field of friends to me;
this is my normal.  Why would I want to hang out with people who don't want
to make things better by standing in the gap, protecting the innocent or seeking
out and destroying those who deserve nothing better?
Abnormal, to me, is the man or woman who doesn't have the skeletal
structure to maintain vigilance and stand up against what is evil and wrong.
Skulking from Starbucks to REI to get their caffeine and clothing fixes,
updating social media to keep us all aware of what they think of Cecil the lion
and how certain lives matter more than others - I haven't the time for the
carefree class, those who want to influence what I like to do and feel the need
for safe spaces to stay segregated from spillers of free speech such as myself."

"Jeff Cooper's Color Code exists to help you get your head
around the need to kill someone in the immediate future."
-- John Hearne
---
Jeff Cooper's Color Code
White -- (NRA unaware) - sleeping, texting on your phone, daydreaming, etc.
Yellow -- (NRA aware) - paying attention to who is around you and what they are doing.
Orange -- (NRA alert) - recognizing a potential threat, and taking action to avoid it
and to eliminate ambiguity (shouting STOP! for instance).
Red -- (NRA alarm) - recognizing a verified threat, and taking action to escape
(because as a civilian defender, that is our goal, because that gives us the highest
probability of a good outcome).  The purpose of shooting the assailant is to
facilitate your escape, not to kill the bad guy.  We shoot to stop the attack.
Black -- combat - unable to escape, for whatever reason, applying force to stop
the attack.  And continuing to apply force until the attack is stopped to allow
your escape.  (Escaping to ensure your safety is good.  Hanging around to call
the cops and report the incident, not so much.  Because the fellow gang
members of the guy you just shot will be closing on you, whether you notice
   them or not.)
[This may not be the Color Code as you learned it.  This is the Color Code as
the Front Sight original instructors taught it to us, students, in early 1996.
They claimed to have learned it directly from Jeff Cooper. -- Jon Low]

***** Situational Awareness *****
How to avoid being taken by surprise.

Just stay in condition Yellow.  I know, easier said than done.
-- said by many different instructors over the decades.

Last night at 20:18 on 31 January 2024, I was in
Dalton's Grill, 7061 US-70S, Nashville, TN 37221,
eating dinner and watching YouTube.com videos on my computer with my ear phones
in my ears.  I heard distant firecrackers and ignored it.  The two waitresses, who had
run up to the front door, informed me that there had been gun fire in the parking lot,
about 20 yards from where I sat.  One 18 year old male lay bleeding out on the asphalt.
Another 17 year old lay nearby with wounds to his stomach and leg.
I considered going outside to render first aid.  But decided not to, out of fear that
other armed combatants were still active in the area.  Within 3 minutes, police swarmed
the area.  Firetrucks arrived.  Ambulances arrived.  Someone must have called 911
when the incident started.
The cops taped off the parking lot.  There were shell casing all over the parking lot.
The gunfight had taken place next to my parked car.  The cops would not let me get to
my car.
At 21:00, Dalton's Grill closes and kicks me out.  So I walk a couple of doors down
to Marco's Pizza.  And wait in there.  At 23:00, Marco's Pizza closes and kicks me out.
At this point all the stores in the shopping center are closed and it's freezing cold.  So
the cops let me sit in one of their cars to keep warm.  At 23:27, the cops let me get my
car and leave.
It's not firecrackers!  It's gun shots!  When you're out in public, take the earphones
out of your ears?  Get your eyes out of your electronic devices and look around!
Don't let the huge gunfight 20 yards away take you by surprise!
[I'm not citing any of the news reports, because they are all wrong.]

“You need to have the capacity for danger.
You need to be ‘dangerous’.  Yet, you need to
learn how to not use it except when necessary.

---
RULE I: ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
There are no exceptions.  Do not pretend that this is true.  Some people and
organizations take this rule and weaken it; e.g. "Treat all guns as if they were loaded."
Unfortunately, the "as if" compromises the directness of the statement by implying
that they are unloaded, but we will treat them as though they are loaded.  No good!
Safety rules must be worded forcefully so that they are never treated lightly or
reduced to partial compliance.  All guns are always loaded - period!
This must be your mind-set.  If someone hands you a firearm and says, "Don't worry,
it's not loaded," you do not dare believe him.  You need not be impolite, but check it
yourself.  Remember, there are no accidents, only negligent acts.  Check it.  Do not
let yourself fall prey to a situation where you might feel compelled to squeal,
"I didn't know it was loaded!"

     Some people believe in God.
Some people act as if they believe in God.
In the end, God will say to the latter, "I never knew you."
Some people believe that ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED.
Some people act as if ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED.
Eventually, the latter group of persons will have a negligent discharge,
because (according to Marine Corps Aviation) mishaps occur due to distraction
(not paying attention to what you're supposed to be paying attention to, because
something else has seized your attention), time compression (self imposed
rushing [because someone is shooting at you, for instance]), and breaking of
habits (doing something other than what you were trained to do, other than
what you practiced doing [because someone is shooting at you, for instance]).
All actions, decisions, behaviors flow naturally, automatically, inexorably
from your beliefs.  Not from your training, unless your training has changed
your belief system.  So, it is critically important that you believe the correct
things.
The chaotic situation of combat will distract you.  Your attention will be
misdirected.  If you rely on your senses, you will be deceived.  But, the safety
rules will never let you down.  Just as pilots rely on their instruments, just
as SCUBA divers rely on their instruments, you must rely on your safety rules.
If you don't believe that you can be deceived, see the magic show at
House of Cards in Nashville, TN (It's all about distraction and misdirection).
The magicians will sit at small tables and perform close up magic for you
(card tricks, coin tricks, etc.).  This should prove to you that the firearm can
be loaded, even when you know, and would bet your life, that it is not loaded.
Ask Massad Ayoob.  He borrowed a student's revolver to do a trigger control
demonstration in one of his classes, and fired a round straight up into the air.
But, because he obeyed Safety Rule II, no one was hurt.

"LAYERS OF FIREARMS SAFETY: A TEACHABLE MOMENT" by Massad Ayoob
Thinking that you would not have been deceived, even though several highly
trained, experienced persons were deceived, is just arrogance.  But you could
reasonable say that you would not have committed such a negligent discharge
because you actually believe, not just pretend, that ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED.
It really is a different mindset.

Stephen P. Wenger's,
Rule Five – maintain control of your firearm.

Incompetence and cowardice kill a lot of people.
"Pilot's Reckless Mistakes Kills Instagram Star!"
by Pilot Debrief
The airplane didn't kill these people.  Never blame an inanimate object.  Never
blame a tool.  There was only one pilot aboard the flight.  The pilot is completely
responsible.
Remember Kobe Bryant?  Who was responsible?  The pilot.
If you're taking money to do something stupid, you're WRONG!  If you're doing
something stupid to keep your job, you're WRONG!  If you're doing something
stupid to get a job, you're WRONG!  Don't do it.  You're going to get people killed.

"It's easier to stay out of trouble than to get out of trouble."

What can you do to cause the criminal predator to NOT select you for victimization?
Head up and looking around.  Chest high.  Shoulders down and relaxed.
Don't slouch.  This body language says, "I am aware.  You won't surprise me."
Tuck your chin and pull your head back to get your ears over your shoulders.  Your
head sticking out in front of your body screams "GOOD VICTIM!".
Walk smoothly.  Don't limp.  Practice until you get your gait correct.  Wear braces
under your clothes if necessary.  An awkward gait screams "DISABLED VICTIM".
Head down looking at the ground with shoulders forward screams,
"RAPE ME.  I WILL SUBMIT.  I WON'T CALL THE POLICE AFTERWARDS."
That's why teaching persons to shoot in the "turtle" position is so stupid.
"Turtle" means head pushed forward, shoulders hunch up and forward.  Because
you're teaching the wrong body language.  It's not going to scare the hardened
criminal.  So you're going to have to shoot the criminal.  On the other hand,
if you had displayed the correct body language, the criminal would have left
without you shooting him because your body language would have convinced
him that you would have shot him; WIN!!

"Hey, Staff, how do you know that the convict isn't lying to the interviewer?"
When you tell a lie, you are forced to tell a second lie to cover the first lie,
then you are forced to tell a third lie to cover or explain the second lie, etc.
Eventually, the interviewer figures out that the subject is lying.  At which
points the interviewer annotates "pathological liar", and doesn't ask to interview
the subject anymore.  The psychologist also reports this to the Assistant Warden.
(The inmates want to participate because 23 hours a day in a cell is boring.)
On the other hand, if the subject is honest, the psychologist reports
this to the Assistant Warden.  The Assistant Warden records the good guy
points which helps with the prisoner's early release, parole, or commissary
privileges.
Everybody knows how the system works.
---
Of course, you could interview the criminal predator without his knowledge
that your conversation was an interview.  Sort of a half ass double blind.
Not terribly difficult, especially if the Assistant Warden is a friend whom you
work with.

"Bomb Threats" by Greg Ellifritz
---
It's hard to get a big bomb into a building.  Much easier to put the bomb in
a car, drive the car into the parking lot, and then call in a bomb threat or pull
a fire alarm to drive the victims from the building to the parking lot.
Unless the bomb is really big, in which case the assailant will drive the truck
up to the building.  We saw lots of examples of this when I was in training to
guard federal buildings.
A real threat to life is stampeding humans.  Be careful.
What we were trained on more recently was tanks of
nerve-gas / poisonous-gas / biologic-agents in or near the intakes of ventilation
systems.  The nerve-gas, VX variants, in particular because it is odorless,
colorless, and without symptoms for several hours, thereby ensuring no evacuation
before contamination.  Of course, good physical security will prevent placement
of such.  Intake vents are usually on the roof.    Don't leave ladders around that
give access to the roof.  Lock all interior access to the roof.  (Teenagers love
to play on the roof.)

by Jacob Paulsen
Jacob Paulsen runs the annual Guardian Conference in Oklahoma City, OK.
I highly recommend.
Last year at the conference, we had a little problem with fleas, ticks, chiggers, and such.
Simple solution:
Sawyer Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent
Spread out your clothes (shoes, socks, pants, shirts, underwear, hats, etc.).
Spray with Sawyer Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent.
Let dry.  Wear normally.  It takes about 6 cycles in the washing machine and drier
to remove the insect repellent.  So it lasts a long time.

"Safe gun handling and knowing how to operate the gun competently is one thing.
How to fight with the gun is a whole other plane of knowledge."
-- Tiger McKee
---
A guy is walking up fast behind you.  What do you do?
You should have a cogent plan of action that you can explain.
Because you have thought about it, planned an action, and practiced it.
Otherwise, you know which plane you're in.
[If your smart ass answer was that "you turn and shoot him",
then I guess you are in yet another plane.]
Perhaps you plan is something like:
Yell stop!  If he stops, great.  We can escape.
If he does not stop, that is an indication of malice.
Clear concealment garment and establish a proper grip on your pistol.
If he stops, great.  We can escape.
If he does not stop, present to close contact and fire until he stops.
Ya, lots of different plans depending on the situation.

"Those motivated by a desire to improve their
gunfighting skills as opposed to a quest for trophies,
must be willing to bleed ego on the match results
to avoid shedding blood in combat."
-- Andy Stanford
---
When we shoot the match, we will go very slowly to ensure we positively identify
every shoot-target and every no-shoot-target.  We will not be racing to win the game.
It is common for the Safety Officer to inform the shooter that he failed to engage
several targets, because he just ran past them without seeing them.  Moving faster than
you can see; moving faster than you can think; is wrong and dangerous.
We will stay back away from corners, windows, and doors, because we understand
that there is someone hiding behind the corner who will grab our pistol.  Crowding
cover is a common tactical error seen in every competition.  Don't do it.
We will shoot at the first part of the enemy that comes into view (elbow, foot, etc.),
because we can do so without exposing our bodies.  We can always get the center-of-mass
hit later as we come around the corner.  We understand that whoever gets the first hit
will usually win the gunfight.  Even if it's not a vital organ hit.  Psychological stops
are a real thing.
We will not muzzle no-shoot-targets.  We will not sweep across no-shoot-targets
when transitioning from one shoot-target to another shoot-target.  Because unlike
the other competitors, we are not playing a game.  We are training for combat.
(Muzzling the innocent bystander is aggravated assault with a firearm, there is a
10 year sentencing enhancement for the firearm.)
Shooting the no-shoot-target is shooting faster than you can think.  We never make
that mistake because we ALWAYS positively identify the target before we shoot it.
Do not do "walk throughs".  Do not choreograph the scenario.  Do not count rounds.
Do not plan your reloads.  Shoot the targets as they come into view.    Shoot until
empty, then reload.  Planning a scenario is a training scar.  Combat is surprising.
Remember, we are training for civilian concealed carry for self-defense.
We are not playing a game.

Do you THINK you can make that head shot on a moving target in your crowded church
in a chaotic situation with people screaming and running around?  Do you KNOW that you
can make that shot?  Because if you don't know that you can make that shot, you won't
attempt the shot.  The guy who is confident takes the shot.  The guy who is not confident
won't take the shot for fear of hitting an innocent bystander.
Jack Wilson of the West Freeway Church of Christ told us that he had practiced that
head shot thousands and thousands of times.  So he was confident that he could make
the shot.  So he took the shot.
Wilson also said that each member of his church security team had about 380 hours
of training at the time of the incident.

----- Tactics -----
Maneuver and fire in support of your strategy.

     "Real fights are short."
-- Bruce Lee

Can you fire from around corners?  Left and right?  (Without exposing yourself?)
Can you fire from under tables?  Under benches?  Under cars?  (In a stable confident
manner?)  Can you fire through small openings?  Between the open door and the door
jam?  Through the artsy lamp sculpture?  Between the slats in the fence?
Can you fire over the garbage dumpster?  Over the car roof?  Over the car hood?
Over the car trunk?  (If you don't know the offset between your sights and your
muzzle, you can easily hit the hood of the car when attempting to shoot over it.)
If you've never done it, you can't answer the question confidently.  Claiming
that you can do it without having done it, is just wishful thinking.

     “Fortuitous outcomes reinforce poor tactics.”

Listening to the after action reports of Nashville police officers would depress the
hell out of you.  Poor tactics with a heartfelt belief that because they survived (as
opposed to because the tactic was effective) they will do it again and it will work
the next time.
On the other end of the spectrum,
I was in the Donut Den in Green Hills this morning and had a conversation with a
Corporal in the Nashville police.  He told me that they were allowed to put weapon
mounted lights on their pistols, but were given very little training on how to use them
in the academy.  So he went to Royal Range (Bob Allen, et al) and took a low light
course on his own time on his own dime.  Bravo!  He also told me that he wanted
to put a red dot sight on his pistol, but a class was required by the police department
and the class was always full.  So, he went to Royal Range and took a 4-day class on
how to use the red dot sight.  Again on his own time and his own dime.  You can't
imagine how impressed I was.  In our modern times, most cops would not carry a
pistol, and only do so because their department forces them to.  They are not gun
people.  They are not warriors.  They are social workers.  Would you want a social
worker to show up when you call 911?  Wouldn't you prefer a warrior?

"LIGHT ON, LIGHT OFF?" by Clint Smith
Excerpts:
"I would avoid buying a gun requiring a special adaptor to mount the attachment
to the rail.  It complicates things.  Most serious defensive pistols today have a rail
readily accepting lights, and that’s the best approach."
"I think strobes are dumb and jack your eyes up really bad."
"A simple light is best, something you push on and off."  [I'm pretty sure he
means push on, release off, thumb switch on the tail cap. -- Jon Low]
"Understand weapon-mounted and handheld lights and techniques —
and train for both."
---
Mr. Smith does not mention the cheek or crown (of the head) index for the
hand held flashlight.  These are widely taught and I think they are good.
A lot of weapon mounted lights (WML) don't have any way to adjust point
of impact for the light relative to your point of aim with your sights.  You may
not need any adjustment.  But if you do, I have found filing the polymer frame
or shimming the contact areas works well.  You don't have to buy precise shims.
You can use aluminum foil, aluminum soda cans, steel from tin cans, packing
tape, etc.  It's actually fairly important to have the light zeroed to the sights.

Perhaps you have never studied ballet.  Perhaps you don't think a pirouette is
tactically sound.  But it is fast and smooth.  Isn't that what you want when transitioning
from one target to another, or turning to run in a different direction.  Wouldn't it be
nice to at least understand the mechanics of a pirouette?  So that you can make an
informed decision when you decide not to add it to your repertoire?  Afraid of
looking like a bunch of sticks?  If so, you are not following Bruce Lee's advice.

Trigger confirmation (touching the trigger unnecessarily) is WRONG!  Don't
do it.  Your trigger has not magically disappeared.  So you don't have to check
to make sure that it is still there.
Adrenaline in your blood stream makes your muscles MUCH stronger that normal.
So touching the trigger might fire the pistol.
Keep your trigger finger in the register position by touching an index point.
The seam between the slide and the frame.  The end of the pin holding the pistol
together (as in the 1911s).  The take down lever.  If there is nothing there for you
to index on, take your tools and make something on the surface of the frame for
you to feel.  So you know you are in the correct position.  So you know you're not
on the trigger.

I don't know who MadMan is.  But in my learned opinion, everything he says
is correct and consistent with all of the classes that I have taken.
I have worked as armed security in hospital emergency rooms.  Sometimes
the cops will sit in the emergency room with the suspect handcuffed to the bed.
In his classes, Andrew Branca often talks about getting cut down to the bone
on his arm and not feeling it.  So it is reasonable to believe that you are injured
and don't know it.
I took a medical class in which the instructor told us about a U.S. Armed Forces
member who was airlifted from the battle field to a hospital.  But during the
helicopter ride he bled to death.  Internal bleeding.  The corpsmen did not find
the bullet entry wound.  At the hospital, the doctors could not find the bullet
entry wound.  At the autopsy, they found the entry wound in his armpit.  (There
was no bleeding around the entry wound.)  So, wounds can be very difficult to
find.  That's why you need to know the technique for looking for entry wounds.
In the trauma care classes that I have taken, we were taught to strip the victim
of all clothing and to rake every inch of the victim's skin with your fingers to
find the wounds.  If you can't do this, for whatever reason, get the hell out of
the way and let someone else do it!

Your self-defense incident will NEVER be a "crystal clear case of self-defense".
Because no lethal force event is ever be a "crystal clear case of self-defense".
To think so is delusional.
For some non-lawyer bureaucrat to make a determination as to whether or
not the incident was a "crystal clear case of self-defense", while you are still
presumed to be innocent is the height of stupidity.

keep your mouth shut.  Don't talk to anyone (including your spouse,
especially intimate friends), except your attorney, and then only in private.
NEVER talk to the media.  NEVER give interviews.  NEVER talk to any
law enforcement officer.
Michael Drejka got violently thrown to the ground in a parking lot
by a larger stronger younger man.  Fearing that he would be stomped to
death in his position of disadvantage on the ground with the assailant
standing over him, Drejka shot the assailant once in the chest.  The assailant
died.  After reviewing the security camera recordings of the event, the
responding police officers declined to arrest Drejka, because it was self-defense.
A few weeks later, the county sheriff made a public statement saying that he
would not charge Drejka with any crime, because it was self-defense.
At this point Drejka is free and clear.
Then Drejka goes into the police station without his attorney (an act
of criminal stupidity) and runs his mouth for 2 hours.  The video and audio
are on YouTube.com.  The detective uses Drejka's own words to arrest Drejka.
Drejka is convicted of manslaughter, sentenced to 20 years, and will spend the
rest of his life in prison.  Drejka is also getting beaten regularly in prison by
the other inmates.
So, you can be free and clear.  And then talk yourself into a conviction.
The interviewing detective did not ask leading questions.  The detective did
not trick Drejka.  All the detective says throughout the interview is "okay",
"okay", "okay", . . .  The detective just let Drejka talk.
So you can avoid spending the rest of your life in prison by keeping your
mouth shut.

All of the instructors that I know of, teach that after a lethal force encounter,
you should stay at the scene and call the police to report the incident.  (Because
fleeing the scene paints you with the brush of guilt.)  But, if unquestionably
innocent persons are being convicted in our "justice" system, maybe that's not
good advice.
All of the attorneys that I know of, teach that after a lethal force encounter,
you should have your attorney defend you by claiming self-defense.  (As Andrew
Branca points out, that is effectively confessing to all the points of a murder
charge, and then arguing that you were justified because it was self-defense.)
Do you really want to put yourself in that position?
If innocent persons get convicted, do you really want to help the prosecutor
by staying at the scene and reporting the incident?  Do you really want to confess
to all of the elements of a murder?  Ya, you might get acquitted based on a
self-defense argument, or you might not.  As Andrew Branca says, "Even if you
are innocent, there is a 10% that you will be convicted.  That's just the noise
in the system."
As Greg Ellifritz says, "Avoid all contact with law enforcement."
Don't stand in a line up; you will be identified as the bad guy, even if you
were out of state at the time.  Don't give dental impressions; you will be
identified as the perpetrator, even if you were not the perpetrator.
Don't give DNA samples; the prosecution "expert witness" will match you
to the crime.  Then you will have to hire an expert witness at $7000 up front
and $500 per hour to explain why the prosecution's expert is wrong.  (Do
you have that kind of money?)  Don't give the prosecution anything.
So what if there is a court order?  If you are not physically present, the
prosecutor can't get the physical evidence to convict you.  No, we do not
have convictions in absentia in the U.S.  (We do have sentencing in absentia.)
If the court can't find you, they can't serve you with papers to appear.  So you
can't even be convicted of contempt of court, because nobody can prove that
you knew about anything.  You were just vacationing at a local park or National
Forest and didn't take your phone with you, because you were on vacation.
As John Farnam says, "How do you win a gunfight?  Don't be there."
Similarly, How do you avoid conviction?  Don't be there.
When I was in the Marine Corps, we were taught to never surrender to law
enforcement (in the context of a classified material courier).  Never surrender
to the enemy.  Never surrender to anyone.  Because once you surrender, you're
going to be imprisoned, tortured, and killed.  Always better to fight.  Ya, you
might lose the fight.  But considering the state of law enforcement in the U.S.,
I think you'd probably win.  And then it's just a matter of Survive, Evade,
Resist, Escape.  SERE school wasn't that hard.  Remember all the classified
techniques.  They work in the civilian world too.
Less than 50% of the homicide cases in the U.S. are ever closed.  ("Closed"
means that law enforcement makes an arrest.  Even if the arrest is of the wrong
person.)  And these are the most important cases.  Aggravated assault, much
lower probability.  And on down the line.
My father always told me to just walk away.  "The jackasses are never going
to find you."  (Having worked as a prosecutor, judge, defense attorney, etc.;
he had a very low opinion of police, especially the FBI.  He was your typical
Yale Republican elitist.  Think Bush et al.  Ya, they were classmates at Yale.)
You don't have any criminal record.  You don't have any regular contact with
law enforcement, as a suspect.  So, they don't recognize you.  Law enforcement
doesn't know you.  They don't have your mug shot.  They don't have your DNA.
They don't have your fingerprints.  Why would they suspect you?  How would
they find you?
The reason "statute of limitations" laws exist is that time destroys evidence,
witnesses die, memories fade, etc.  People move.  People lose interest.  Etc.
While there are no statute of limitations laws on murders, a competent attorney
can make the reasonable argument that the prosecution is making it impossible
for you to find alibi witnesses and documents, because the prosecutor refuses
to specify the date and time of the alleged offense (by using such verbiage as
"on or about March 13th").  Well, I can get Joe to testify that on March 13th
we were at Martin's Barbeque all afternoon and evening, but I can't reasonably
be expected to account for my whereabouts for the entire ill-defined period of
"on or about March 13th".  You get the idea?
As Tom Givens says, 20,000 people in America disappear every year.
Tom thinks some of them are murdered and their bodies never found.
So their numbers should be added to the homicide totals.  But I think they
are just starting a new life.  It's very easy to start a new life in America.
All the natives speak English.  They all use the same money.  The culture is
fairly uniform.  So you can easily move to a new town or state and blend
right in.  I've done it many times in my life.  I know lots of people who
have "retired" to other countries.  On an American pension or with savings
from an American job, you can live like a king in a lot of other countries.
(Remember the government needs a conviction to seize your assets or
pension.  Only the IRS can seize without a conviction.  So pay your taxes
and keep the IRS happy.  Even if you use the ransom from the kidnapping
to pay the IRS debt, you win, because the IRS won't return stolen money.
Lots of documented cases.)
If the SEC is going to waste your time and money for years, perhaps
decades, wouldn't the smart move be to sell your company and move to
the Philippines or Mexico?  (Even if it's selling your company to your son-in-law
for a dollar.)  Let them try to extradite you.  They have to find you first.
Anyone with more than two neurons to rub together can avoid being found
in this world of 8 billion persons.  It's not even like you have to try hard.
The law enforcement agencies have way less pull than the financial types.
And a lot of foreign countries won't cooperate with U. S. law enforcement.
Think Edward Snowden.  Or, what's-her-face in Cuba, who killed a cop
in the U.S.

Hello Jonathan,
The Republican-controlled legislature [in Kentucky, USA] is advancing
House Bill 5 (HB5), also known as the "Safer Kentucky Act," and it includes
a ton of tough-on-crime provisions that other states that value the safety of
their residents ought to consider modeling.
(Kentucky's governor is a Democrat, but the Republican legislator is a
super-majority with veto-override capability.)
Included in the 72-page bill are provisions that:
prohibit or tightly constrain probation and parole for a variety of violent crimes,
     makes death-by-fentanyl-sale a capital crime,
substantially elevate the severity and sentences for a variety of violent crimes
including carjacking,
     prohibits unlawful homeless encampments,
explicitly approves the use of force by property owners or renters to remove
squatters or trespassers,
empowers the state Attorney General to sue any that decline to enforce that
law (e.g., sanctuary cities),
requires homeless shelters to prohibit resident individuals from the use of drugs
or alcohol and require that they consent to mental health conditions and refrain
from criminal activity,
allows for the institutionalizing of individuals without requiring proof of
criminal conduct,
tightly restricts the ability of "charitable bail organizations" to bail out violent
criminals,
strengthens the ability of retail establishments to use force to detain shoplifters
and organized theft rings,
provides criminal and civil immunity to shoplifters who lawfully use force
to stop shoplifters,
defines reckless endangerment with a firearm as a "violent offender" crime
for which probation or parole is tightly constrained,
expands the definition of terroristic threatening to include any building and
any gathering of 3 or more persons,
mandates that school employees report to police certain violent acts or
firearms possession by students,
expands the definition of "serious physical injury" for certain domestic
violence offenses (including "dating" relationships),
greatly increases the penalties for flight from the police,
     . . . and much, much more!

Instructors, you may be thinking that teaching larger classes will maximize your profit.
And that that will make you happy.  But there is another way to satisfaction and happiness.
I beg you to consider tutoring individuals (in the ancient Greek tradition [1]).  There are
students, some of whom John Farnam refers to below, for whom multi-body classes are
inappropriate, in the sense that they will not be able to learn in such an environment.
Nobody's fault.  It's just that every person is different from every other person.
Why would you sacrifice the money for such an endeavor?
🔘 Building a relationship that will bring you word of mouth clients, as opposed to
clients from advertisements.  Word of mouth / personal referral is very powerful.
Ask any marketing expert.  (You think Donald Trump or persons like him search
the internet for classes?)
🔘 Being able to notice and fix a student's problems.  You would never have even
noticed the problems in a large class.
🔘 Giving a student your undivided attention prevents the student from getting
distracted, which increases the student's ability to learn.
🔘 Allows you to talk about things that the student may feel embarrassed or self
conscious talking about in a class setting.  Is it likely that a student will admit to
you in front of others that he has been trying and failing for years to achieve a
surprise break.
🔘 A one-on-one allows the student to ask the "stupid questions" that he would
never ask in a class for fear of demonstrating his ignorance in front of others.
🔘 I could go on and on, but you get the idea.
Just as some persons benefit from individual instruction, some do not.  I've had
a lady tell me that one-on-one tutoring is too intense.  There is no crowd to hide in.
Some students would prefer to hide in the crowd.
[1]  In ancient Greece, Greeks would buy slaves of high intellect and education to
tutor their children.  Taking the Bible out of context and out of time period causes
all kinds of problems.  The Greek writing authors of the New Testament knew
nothing of American slavery.  Claiming that the Bible advocates American or later
European or Islamic (700 years after Christ) slavery is nonsense.  Claiming that
the Greek writers of the New Testament were writing of slavery as it was practiced
in the Old Testament in Egypt is similarly nonsense.  They were just too far removed
in time and culture to know anything about it.
Translations may use the word "slave", but there is no such things as an accurate
translation of anything.  Because no two languages are isomorphic.

     “Mission drives the gear train.”
-- Pat Rogers
So you have to be realistic about what you mission is.  Your everyday carry is for
your everyday mission, not your summer deployments.  Not the deployments when
you are involuntarily activated.  If you've retired and some officer says, we need your
special skills, he is actually saying, "You're expendable and we won't keep any
record of you.  Make sure to bring credit cards.  You might have to find you own
way home.  Because we're going to disavow any knowledge of you."  Gold coins
would be appropriate in this case.

"Sloppy Gun “Carrying” Is A Real Problem" by Karl Rehn
Check out the infographic by the TSA.
Excerpts:
"I’ve written extensively about the gap between the 99% of gun owners
whose commitment to self defense consists and ends with taking the state
mandatory permit course.  The people that are having guns stolen from vehicles
and are forgetting them in carry on bags at airports are in that 99%.  It happens
because their mindset is that carrying on body, even in a pocket, is “too hard”
or isn’t necessary because they have a gun in their bag or in the car.  It’s the
half measure that allows them to think they are well prepared and equipped
for a potential deadly force situation, exempting them from the need to actually
carry the gun with them.  There’s a whole industry dedicated to feeding this
delusion, . . . "
"The most common car carry method, among the untrained and undertrained,
is to carry the gun without a holster, with the trigger guard exposed, typically
with a magazine inserted but no round chambered.  Those that carry like this
don’t go to the range and practice every drill starting with a slide closed on an
empty chamber.  They just chamber a round and shoot.  That means under stress,
they have no repetitions of quickly racking the slide as they bring the gun to
the target."
"More than likely anyone reading this article, particularly those that have read
this far, isn’t the problem.  But most serious gun carriers have untrained/undertrained
friends and family that need to be reminded that sloppy carrying can lead to terrible
outcomes:  from stolen guns to Federal charges to failing in self defense incidents."

The grip of your pistol must be long enough for all of your fingers to be able to
correctly grip the pistol.  If the pistol grip is so short that the little finger of your
support-side hand cannot grip the pistol securely, you won't be able to control the pistol,
so you won't hit your intended target.  You'll hit something.  Remember, we are
preparing for the chaotic situation and combat stress, not the pristine conditions
of an air conditioned indoor pistol range.
In a two handed grip with the middle finger of your firing-side hand pressed
tight against the bottom of your trigger guard and the index finger of your
support-side hand pressed tight against the bottom of your trigger guard, your
support-side index finger will be over your firing-side middle finger, your
support-side middle finger will be over your firing-side ring finger, your
support-side ring finger will be over your firing-side little finger, and your
support-side little finger will be on your grip.
Remember, the little fingers provide most of the resistance to muzzle flip
because they have the longest lever arm from the pivot point, which is the
tang of the pistol.
If you use some other grip because "it works for you", well, you should
seek expert training (have a good attitude and attempt to learn).  Ya, you may
be deformed or genetically different, but it's not likely.  What's far more likely
is that you've seen some champion female shooter using a strange grip and
are imitating her to try to shoot like her on the false belief that it will help
you to shoot better.
She is highly dedicated and puts in an inordinate amount of practice.
She could literally make any messed up grip work.  You, on the other hand,
are not going to put in enough practice to make anything other than a canonical
grip work.

"Annual Maintenance Tasks" by Karl Rehn
Hat tip to Greg Ellifritz.
I would add, check your recoil springs.  If the spring is not strong enough to push
your slide into battery, when the slide is slightly out of battery, it's time to change the
spring.  (Assuming your pistol is clean and lubricated.)  Replacements available at
Brownells and Midway.  If you've got an exotic pistol, best to let a gunsmith make
sure the length and strength are correct for your slide weight and such.  The recoil
springs cycle with every shot and every chamber check and every loading and every
unloading.  So they will eventually work harden.  You need to change them before
they crack.
I also like my firing-pin / striker springs strong enough to shoot a pencil up into
the ceiling.  But that is much more than is necessary for modern primers.

AGILITE
     Support Israel.  Buy Israeli.
Their M-16 mag pouches are nice.

Don’t load the same cartridge over and over. This will cause the cartridge
to malfunction.  As I learned when working at McDonalds restaurants,
rotate the stock.  (That means you put the new stuff in back of the old stuff,
and use the older stuff first.)
Bullets will get pushed back into the case.  Priming compounds will crack
and turn to powder in the primer.  If there is no lacquer seal around the primer
pocket and the bullet-case interface, water or oil will seep in.

Always carry your pistol in a holster, because lint build-up inside your pistol
will cause light firing pin strikes.
Always carry your magazines in a pouch, because lint and dirt will cause
malfunctions when the cartridge doesn't feed correctly.

Your holster must cover the muzzle.  Otherwise, something will bump the
muzzle and drive the pistol out of its seated position in the holster.  That may
be enough to expose the trigger.  That may be enough to allow the grip to get
caught on the back of a chair.  It might be enough to cause the pistol to fall
out of your holster.  It might be enough to allow your undershirt or concealment
garment to get caught on your trigger.  Yes, as a matter of fact, it could happen
to a 1911 type trigger, because their may be a button, zipper, draw tie, folded
over corner seam, or other protrusion to catch the trigger.

I keep at least 2 cases (2000 rounds) on hand at any time.  That way I feel
comfortable grabbing some ammo to go practice.  If I've only got a couple of
boxes (100 rounds) on hand, I'm hesitant to live fire practice, because I'm
afraid of running out of ammo.  Accept and adjust to your psychology.

"What Time Dilation ACTUALLY Is In Relativity

"Light travels through some medium." ?
All electromagnetic radiation travels through the medium of space.
Space is the medium for photons.  Space is the medium for E-M waves.
Space, the medium, has a well defined permittivity and permeability.
So it is a medium.  Light does not propagate through void.  It only
propagates through space.
[Yes, there are places where space does not exist as we know it.
The interior of a blackhole for instance.  Within the event horizon,
the escape velocity is greater than the speed of light.  So light, or any
E-M radiation, cannot be said to propagate.  That's why there is an
information problem with blackholes.
Beyond the light horizon of our universe.  If there are no photons
to carry space into the void that existed before the "Big Bang" (which
I obviously don't believe in, because it is false), can the void be space?
We have no communication with it. We get no information from it.]
     "Ether."  ?
What nonsense.  Has the narrator never taken a first year physics course
in any U.S. university?
     "Speed of information."
C is the speed of light in a vacuum.  Information is carried by a carrier.
Information does not travel through space by itself.
Any electromagnetic radiation or other things can be a carrier.
Group velocity can be faster than C.  But no information is traveling at the
group velocity.
Light in a quartz crystal travels about ⅔ C, while electrons can travel
through a quartz crystal at 0.99 C.  So the information carried by the electrons
can travel faster than the speed of light in the quartz crystal.

"The Current Absurd State of Generating AI Images"
by bycloud
We pull carriers for steganography from images on the internet.
If the source is popular enough, it is effectively impossible to identify parties
that accessed the source.  The internet infrastructure has always been driven by
entertainment (pornography) because that is where the customer demand is, what
the users are willing to pay for.  Real photos are unique in an information theoretic
sense.  Presently, the high volume (download volume), high hit rate (unique IP
address hits) are Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated images.  This makes human
identification of an image impossible.  Several versions of an AI generated image
will look identical to the human user.  This forces use of software to identify images.

Hi Jonathan,
Trying to solve a complex problem or question, but struggling to find the
insights you need?  I’m going to make a bold statement here, so stay with me:
You’re thinking about your data all wrong.  Or rather, your database doesn’t
let you think about data the way you need to.
With many systems built on relational databases, you may not know that
there’s a better option for complex problems:  graph databases.  Ironically,
relational databases aren’t effective at handling data relationships, which
means they don’t work as well for problems involving behavior and interactions
over time.
A relational database works well when you’re listing transactions – like bank
deposits and withdrawals.  But you’d want a graph database for capturing any
relationships in the data – like the relationships between a household and all
their banking products.
Hope you’ve found this information helpful,
John Stegeman

Do you understand?  You association graphs should be in graph databases,
not relational databases.  Are they?
Your spider webs must be built correctly to catch the correct flies.  Killing
the wrong person is unacceptable.  If your command accepts such collateral
damage, you should resign (request transfer, request reassignment, etc.).
You're either honorable or you're not.  There is no in-between.

More evidence that gun-control-laws do not enhance public safety.
The purpose and effect of gun-control-laws is to criminalize the behavior
of political opponents to allow the government to arrest, imprison, and
disenfranchise (revoke the ability to vote) political opponents.

When you start playing with theories where mass-energy (E = mc², mass and
energy are different forms of the same thing) and energy-momentum (in theoretical
physics, energy and momentum of massless particles are the same) are not conserved
quantities, you can do all kinds of strange things.

It's sort of like the English teacher in the creative writing class telling the students,
you can write about anything.  Or, the art teacher telling the students, you can draw
anything you want to.  The less restrictions you have, the more freedom you have,
this means less structure (physical structure, mathematical structure), that means
less pleasing in any scientific sense, less ability to explain anything.  Be careful.

"Warped Passages: Unraveling the Mysteries of the Universe's Hidden Dimensions"
by Lisa Randall
It's an explanation of string theory for the layman.  String theory was not a thing
when I was studying physics in college.  So I wasn't familiar with it.  After reading
Randall's explanation which requires higher dimensions (in reality, not just in theory),
I felt string theory was nonsense.
Physics is a religion as any other.  There are many denominations, heretics,
and such.  Getting published is political, not meritorious.  As Colin Powell said,
the armed forces are the closest thing we have to a meritocracy.  Physics in
academia is far from a meritocracy.  That's why Weinstein is complaining.

Civil Wars can come in many different flavors and levels of violence.  Remember
the arrest of Roger Stone?  Those who care know the names of those FBI agents.
Lt. William Calley could not claim that he was just following orders.  Neither will
those FBI agents.  That's just how it goes in a civil war.  Those who thought they
were invulnerable / protected, end up as did the affluent during the French Revolution.
Oh, the leaders too, like Robert Mueller.  But it always starts with the foot soldiers.
Remember who appointed Mueller and who was attorney general at the time.
Democrat AGs protect their Presidents.  Republican AGs, not so much.  Of course,
that is Trump's fault.  Incompetence and disloyalty go hand in hand.  Let us hope
Trump has learned.

"Facts" by Tom MacDonald (feat. Ben Shapiro)
Do you understand why this song is so popular in spite of opposition from the
music industry?

"Tom MacDonald Says Big Tech Suppressing New Rap With Ben Shapiro:
‘The Industry Wants You To Listen To Manufactured Bullshit’ "
by  Tim Pearce
Excerpts:
" “I just dropped a new video and a new song called ‘Facts’ with Ben Shapiro.
TuneCore, a distribution company for independent artists, refused to release the
song because of ‘lyrical content.’  Now, YouTube is screwing with us on the
trending charts,”
MacDonald showed a screenshot of rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the top
trending spot on YouTube, with “Facts” behind at number two.
“Our video has over a million more views than hers in the same time frame.
Our video also has over 30,000 more comments in the same time frame,”
explained MacDonald.  “How is Megan Thee Stallion still number one?
Because the industry wants you to listen to manufactured bullshit and they
don’t want you listening to ‘controversial music.’  That’s the music industry.” "
" “I just want to thank God, [Tom MacDonald], and my parents, who paid for
15 years of classical violin lessons so I could become the #1 rapper in America,”
Shapiro posted on X after “Facts” hit number one."
