The term "gun violence" is a term of propaganda.  Anyone who uses the term is conflating
guns with violence.  We all know that to be false.  Far more people are killed by falling,
killed with cars, killed with blunt instruments (including the ground), killed by hands and feet
than are killed with guns.
Guns don't kill.  Guns save lives.
Guns are inanimate objects.  Attributing violence to guns is intellectually dishonest.

The term "active shooter" is a term of propaganda.  We are all shooters and we are all
active in shooting and in life.  To use the term to conflate our healthy shooting addiction
with the evil of mass murderers is pure propaganda.

----- Mindset (figuring out the correct way to think) -----

If you look at someone bigger, faster, and stronger and immediately think,
' I'm at a disadvantage ',
I have news for you:  you are.
But that's only because you just put yourself there for no reason.
The truth is that anyone can do debilitating violence to anyone else.
Your size, your speed, your strength, your gender --
all the factors that untrained people think make
the difference when it comes to violence --
all matter far less than your mindset and your intent.
-- Tim Larkin

Excerpts:
The biggest impediment to prevailing in any fight is not our ability to shoot well,
it is our willingness to fight in the first place.
. . . a mirror will allow you to study your draw stroke and see where unnecessary
motion is evident.
[I have always told my junior rifle team members to practice in a mirror.  The instant
feedback will cause the student to immediately and automatically correct errors.
The student's neglect to do mirror practice is obvious to the coach.  The student
will display all kinds of awkward movements and positions. -- Jon Low]
A gun that is not on your person is a gun that will never enter the fray -- it’s as simple as that.

What a gunfight should look like.  A 20 second gunfight, it lasted an eternity.
Good guy no injuries.  Bad guy dead.  Other bad guy drove away.
You may get attacked by chance or by design.  This was by design.  Notice
that the bad guy did not run away when confronted with lethal force, but rather
pressed the attack.  Notice that the bad guy retreated to a position of tactical
advantage.  Retreat is a tactical maneuver.  Retreat is not surrender.
You don't remember that guy you bullied decades ago in high school,
but he remembers.  And he's been biding his time.  No, he is not psycho.
He just has a well defined sense of revenge, because that is how he was raised.
Jesus commanded His followers to forgive and leave vengeance to the Lord.
But other religions / cultures demand revenge.  It's a matter of honor, don't you know.

“Willingness” is a state of mind.  Readiness is a statement of fact!”
-- David M Shoup, USMC Commandant, 1960-1963

Stay in the shadows.  It's harder for the enemy to see you.  And you won't get sunburned.

A person's ability to accept a thing as within the realm of reality is limited by their
experience.  Anything outside is outlandish.

"You need to have the capacity for danger.  You need to be ‘dangerous’.
Yet, you need to learn how to not use it except when necessary.  And, that is not
the same thing as being harmless.  . . .  There's nothing virtuous about harmlessness.
Harmless just means you’re ineffectual and useless."

RULE III:  KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER [in the register position]
UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET.

"Officers kill homeowner after responding to wrong address" by Associated Press

Hat tip to Stephen P. Wenger, http://spw-duf.info
One of those Ring door bells,
https://ring.com/doorbell-cameras
attached to the front door or the wall next to the front door would have gone a long way
to keeping the residents safe.  All of my neighbors have them installed.  You can see and
talk to the guys outside without having to open your door.  Generally best to stay away
from your front door, as the bad guys can and do shoot through doors.
Police are human.  They make mistakes.  No sense compounding the mistake and getting
killed.  The officers might get convicted.  The wife might get a big civil settlement.
But, the husband is still dead.  How could he have avoided getting killed?
1.  Don't answer the door.  Let the police get a warrant.  They would not have been able to.
Call 911 and tell the dispatcher that there are men claiming to be police at your door trying
to make entry.  "Are they really police officers?"  Impersonating a police officer is a common
thing.
2.  Leave via the back door.  Leaving is always a good idea.  Go to a movie theater and see
the new "John Wick Chapter 4" movie.  No, as a matter of fact, you don't have to get involved
in the drama.  My father (who was a prosecutor, defense attorney, and judge) often said,
"You can always walk away."  And it's true!
3.  Answer the door from your smart phone, using your remote door bell video and audio
system.  Lot's of them on the market, cheap as dirt.
3.  Answer the door from a side window, balcony, etc.

Excerpt from "The Modern Technique of the Pistol", by Greg Morrison
RULE I: ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
There are no exceptions.  Do not pretend that this is true.  Some people and organizations
take this rule and weaken it; e.g. "Treat all guns as if they were loaded."  Unfortunately,
the "as if" compromises the directness of the statement by implying that they are unloaded,
but we will treat them as though they are loaded.  No good!  Safety rules must be worded
forcefully so that they are never treated lightly or reduced to partial compliance.  All guns are
always loaded - period!  This must be your mind-set.  If someone hands you a firearm and
says, "Don't worry, it's not loaded," you do not dare believe him.  You need not be impolite,
but check it yourself.  Remember, there are no accidents, only negligent acts.  Check it.
Do not let yourself fall prey to a situation where you might feel compelled to squeal,
"I didn't know it was loaded!"

"Take training from different instructors.
We are all wrong about something."
-- John Farnam
---
I have been teaching since 1987 (NRA classes).  Those were beginner level classes.
I didn't really teach at an intermediate level until after I had been through the Front Sight
curriculum starting in 1996.  I didn't start to think of myself as a competent teacher until
I started taking classes from the instructors that I met at the Rangemaster Tactical
Conferences starting in 2016 and more recently the the instructors that I met at the
Guardian Conference.
I taught a lot of things that I no longer teach, because I presently think that the old stuff
is wrong.  But, when I learned it for the first time, I thought it was great.  As Claude Werner
says, "You don't know what you don't know.  Much of what you know is false."  But, you
don't know that what you know is wrong unless someone tells you why it is wrong.
Ya, you might figure it out for yourself, but that's unlikely.  It's usually by reading and taking
classes from others that you learn that what you are teaching is wrong.

Jon:
In regard to your comment about some shooters performing better when shooting with
their non-dominant hand:  I'm a left-handed shooter that shoots right handed (and better
than left handed, although that might be a matter of practice).  But I was taught (forced?)
to shoot right-handed by my left-handed father (who also shot right-handed) because back
then, left handed rifles were rare and expensive and no one made ambidextrous pistols.
He shot right-handed for the same reason and because that is how he'd been trained while
in the Army.
I have a left handed son that is looking at shooting right handed because it is just easier
to find pistols, holsters, etc., set up for right handed.  I'll let you know whether he is better
at shooting right-handed after some practice.

Though we really do not understand why sleep is such a critical commodity,
the human animal dies from lack of it [11 days] long before he dies from lack

. . . the best tactical hardware on the planet is nothing more than ballast

Getting old may not be negotiable, but allowing yourself to get soft and fat
are personal choices.  <<If you smoke cigarettes and think you are in any way serious
about survival, you are deluding yourself.>>Highlight??  Eat right, exercise and practice with
your primary defensive weapon as often as you are able.  In so doing you can
better protect your family, impress your bride, and defend your castle for those
times when life really hands you lemons.

"Why the “Little Things” Matter During Training" by Pete Feeney

I'm doing firearms training for a church security team later today.
Shooting situations where there are lots of innocent people (and possibly multiple
attackers) are very different than shooting at static paper.
We not only need to have great fundamental shooting skills, like what we'd get
shooting paper . . .
We also need to be able to think while shooting.
Do I have a clear shot?
Do I have a safe backstop?
Am I in a good spot to make the shot?
     Angles and awareness are key.
But you can't learn or practice those skills on a square range.
-- Mike Ox

Self defense actually makes you less violent.
Now I know that might sound counterintuitive cause most think self defense
is all about fighting back and protecting yourself . . .
But the truth is self defense is about much more than that . . .
It's about understanding violence, avoiding it whenever possible, and minimizing
its impact when it does occur.
It's not just about learning how to fight back . . .
It's about knowing how to avoid violence in the first place . . .

----- Practice (how to get competent at that task) -----

"Most people don't know how to practice." -- Ken Hackathorn

Hopefully, you have had expert training before practicing to ensure that what you are
practicing is correct.
Practice should be planned (have a list of things to do and execute to your list), deliberate
(as opposed to casual), and intentional (attitude, concentrate on what you are doing without
distraction).
If you are practicing a new skill, practice should be slow to ensure you are doing it
correctly and not engraining bad habits.  If you are practicing a skill you know well,
practice should initially be slow to make sure you're doing it correctly (not unintentionally
engraining bad habits).
You must keep a highly detailed journal.
Before going to practice, write down what you are going to work on at the practice session.
(What are you going to accomplish?  If you don't know, STOP!  THINK!  {Ya, I kow it's hard.
Don't hurt yourself.}  If you don't have any goals, you're wasting your time. )
During the practice session, execute the things on your list.
After the practice session, write down what you did at the practice session.  Write down
what worked, and what didn't work.  Write down what you will be working on at the next
session based on the results of this session.
Otherwise, you're wasting your time.  Wasting time can be fun, especially when doing
it with someone hot.  Just don't confuse it with practice.  Only practice will improve your
performance.
"I went to the range today with the guys and shot a thousand rounds, while drinking a
cooler of beers, and grilling burgers and hot dogs.  What a great day of practice.  I'm ready
for war.  NOT!"
If you're going to practice, you're probably going by yourself.  Or, possibly with your
coach.  Team practices make sense for team sports.  Shooting is an individual sport / art /
skill/ combat skill.  Going with friends is distracting.  If you want to accomplish your goals
for the day, best to go by yourself.  You're not being anti-social.  You're being serious.

Why practice?
"To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment
when they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder and
offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique

that moment finds them unprepared or unqualified for that
which could have been their finest hour."

My right hand grip strength is presently 85 pounds.  My left hand grip strength is
presently 80 pounds.  You should know yours.  (If you ask a physical therapists, they will
help you.  It only takes a few seconds.)  These data should be recorded in your journal.
The one thing all world-class athletes have in common is that they keep a highly detailed
journals.  This gives them the data to apply the scientific method to their training and
practice.  The scientific method allows them to force improvement in performance.
As opposed to blindly stumbling about and accidentally occasionally making improvements.
And worse, not knowing why one improved.

How do you win a gunfight?
Don't be there.
-- John Farnam

Dear Jonathan:
The national media refuses to cover that the Nashville mass murderer looked at two
other targets but decided against them because "security was too great."  As we have
shown over and over again, this is not a new twist.  The mass public shooters may be
crazy, but they aren't stupid.  They pick targets where victims can't defend themselves.
Isn't it newsworthy why these murderers pick the targets that they do?  You would
certainly think so.

In case you don't understand the above excerpt from one of John's emails --
All mass murders occur in gun-free-zones, because the bad guys choose
gun-free-zones, because no one can defend themselves.
That is why liberal politicians create gun-free-zones.  It's intentional,
to create victims, to create crisis, to use to advance their anti-gun agenda.
And the sickest most disgusting part is that the executives and administrators
of the church and school made their facility a gun-free-zone.  (The mass
murderer knew this, as per her notes.)  The executives and administrators
of the church and school knew or should have known that the result would
be a mass murder.  They chose political correctness over the lives of those
that they were responsible for.  And they will deny it until the day they face
God.  Because God will not abide their political nonsense.

In the following videos, I demonstrate twisting torso and legs, and changing arm
positions (Weaver to Isosceles to Reverse Weaver), and going to one handed shooting
to get 360 degree azimuthal range of fire (maybe much more than 360 degrees for
some of you).  Hey, you might need to track and shoot your adversary as he moves
around you.  If you're sitting, you'll only be able to use the torso twist and arm positions.
If you're lying on your back, maybe only the arm positions.
The Reverse Weaver was taught to me by John Holschen in one of his classes at
Tac Con a few years ago.  The advantage is that you maintain your two-handed grip.
Yes, it takes practice.  Nothing worth doing is easily done (at least not for me).

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.
It is wholly inadequate for the governance of any other.
-- John Adams, October 11, 1798

From an email from John Harris --
April 13, 2023
“Well-regulated” does not mean regulated by government.
The Second Amendment provides that “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary
to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not
be infringed.”  The phrase has a specific purpose.  That purpose is not to authorize
government entities to enact laws or regulations that limit who could own arms,
what kind of arms they could own, or what they lawfully did with those arms.
Unfortunately, too many people, including too many serving in government,
operate under the delusion that the language of the Second Amendment authorizes
government “regulation” of firearms.  Too many operate under the delusion that
the Second Amendment only protects “sporting arms” or “self-defense firearms”.
The purpose of the phrase “well-regulate” was to underscore that the right
protected by the Second Amendment included the political right of the citizens to
have arms (not just firearms) and accessories suitable for the people to rise up and
displace any existing or future government.  Because the Second Amendment
protects a political right, its purpose is not limited to self-defense, hunting or
recreational shooting.  The Second Amendment, stating that a well regulated
(equipped and trained) militia (the citizenry) is necessary to the security of a free state,
was specifically understood and intended to protect civilian ownership of
military grade firearms.
In 1840, the Tennessee Supreme Court held in Aymette v. State, 21 Tenn. 154 (1840),
that “the arms the right to keep which is secured are such as are usually employed in
civilized warfare, and that constitute the ordinary military equipment.  If the citizens
have these arms in their hands, they are prepared in the best possible manner to repel
any encroachments upon their rights by those in authority.”
In 1939, the United States Department of Justice submitted a brief to the
United States Supreme Court in the proceedings of United States v. Miller, in which
the Department of Justice stated the following concerning the nature of arms that are
protected by the Second Amendment from government infringement:
“While some courts have said that the right to bear arms includes the right of the
individual to have them for the protection of his person and property as well as the
right of the people to bear them collectively (People v. Brown, 253 Mich. 537;
State v. Duke, 42 Tex. 455), the cases are unanimous in holding that the term “arms”
as used in constitutional provisions refers only to those weapons which are ordinarily
used for military or public defense purposes and does not relate to those weapons
which are commonly used by criminals.”
But the advocates of gun control focus on the phrase “well-regulated” and exhibit
their civics ignorance by completely misconstruing the phrase.
Their assertion that “well-regulated” grants authority to government to regulate
civilian gun ownership was flatly rejected by the United States Supreme Court in 2008
in its Heller decision.  In Heller, the Court explained that the phrase “well-regulated”
described the necessity of a well armed, well prepared and well trained citizenry.
Finally, the adjective “well-regulated” implies nothing more than the imposition
of proper discipline and training.  See Johnson 1619 (“Regulate”: “To adjust by rule
or method”); Rawle 121–122; cf. Va. Declaration of Rights §13 (1776),
in 7 Thorpe 3812, 3814 (referring to “a well-regulated militia, composed of the
body of the people, trained to arms”).
Thus, in complete contrast to the misconstrued use of the phrase would suggest,
the actual meaning of the phrase has more to do with promoting the purchase,
ownership, use and expertise with and of firearms – including military suitable
firearms – by all civilians.  That preparedness and expertise was the basis on which
the 13 states were able to separate from English rule and establish a new nation and
it is that necessary threat to government tyranny that assures the “security of a free state.”
     Contact Your Legislators!
It is critical that 2nd Amendment advocates, advocate for constitutional rights,
"let them feel the heat" as President Reagan taught.  When Tennessee's own
Lt. Governor, Randy McNally, calls for a Red Flag law, a clearly unconstitutional
proposal, it is time to make him and any other Legislators or members of Bill Lee's
administration "feel the heat".

"ANSWERING YOUR EMBARRASSING GUN QUESTIONS (Pt. 1) |
Things you may not want to ask but need to know!" by Stavroula Avramidis

No, there are no stupid questions.  The question is actually deep, you just don't
understand the question.  So, now you have to ask thoughtful questions to figure out
what the student is actually asking, as opposed to what you thought the student was
asking.  A stupid person would not be attending your class in the first place.
The vast majority of people are oblivious.  They are not looking for concealed carriers.
And wouldn't think that you are carrying, when they notice the bulge.

Rule #1:  The holster must cover the trigger guard fully,

Rule #2: The holster must adequately retain the firearm.
Rule #3: The holster must stay attached to the body when drawing the gun.
Rule #4: The holster should allow a full grip of the gun while in the holster.
     Commenter, Whit, adds --
The holster must remain open to allow the gun to be reholstered with one hand

"Accessing Controls From the Firing Grip." by SLG
https://pistol-training.com/accessing-controls-from-the-firing-grip/
Extended slide locks, magazine release buttons, and safeties are a bad idea.  They will
cause your pistol to slide lock when you don't want it to, release the magazine when you
don't want to, and fail to fire when you need to fire.

My modifications to the typical plastic frame striker action pistol
for my students and clients --
                    Internal:
Polish all trigger mechanism bearing surfaces.  Smooth and round the sear
in the frame that holds the striker back.  The Glocks come from the factory
as a sheet metal stamping and so are rather rough and mis-shapen.
The maritime modification, which means the cups around the striker have been
cut to allow water to drain out in the event of the pistol being submerged.  Otherwise,
you get a hydraulic action retarding the striker.  Which could cause a light striker
hit on the primer.  ["My pistol will never get submerged."  Ya, right.]
Smooth and polish all bearing surfaces that force the barrel up and down as
the action cycles.
Smooth and polish all bearing surfaces between cartridge, magazine, feed ramp,
and chamber.
                    External:
Debur all sharp protrusions.  The entire surface of the pistol should be as
a used bar of soap.  Otherwise, your student is going to get cuts and blisters.
Grind off the protrusions on the front strap that separate the fingers.  Because
nobody's fingers match those protrusions.  Those protrusions are a serious design
flaw.
Grind out some space at the sides of the tang to avoid irritation and blisters when
used by students who have arthritis or protruding sesamoid bones.
Grind a smooth undercut and side cuts in the trigger guard where it meets the
grip to avoid "Glock knuckle" (a blister and callous on the big joint of the middle finger).
Shave off some of the plastic on the sides of the Glock magazines.  They are
just too tight.  I think you ought to be able to eject the magazine by twisting your
forearm in a snappy motion, roll the pistol (as opposed to pitch or yaw), using
centripetal acceleration to force the magazine out.  Of course, if it dropped free
with gravity that would be better.
Machine out the rear sight by 2 hundredths of an inch to allow proper sight
alignment, especially in low light conditions.  Take a hundredth off each side, so as
not to disturb the zero.  They are the steel tritium glow in the dark Glock sights,
not the cheap plastic sights.  If the barrel is short, you may have to machine out
3.5 to 4 hundredths of an inch.
Grind smooth the sharp inside corners of the rear sight notch.  And then
coat with an indelible black ink, such as Sharpie Rub-a-Dub Laundry Marker
or Sharpie Permanent Marker.  Hot or cold bluing is difficult these days with all
the EPA restrictions.
Machine serrations in the sides of the slide to allow purchase to perform a
chamber check.  Ya, I know some instructors teach against the practice of doing
a chamber check at all.  And some teach against performing a chamber check by
reaching under the pistol and grabbing the sides of the slide with the pads of the
fingers.  And of course, if you have a weapon attached light under your barrel,
you might not be able to do such a chamber check.  But, I teach against weapon
mounted lights for civilian concealed carriers.  And I like doing a chamber check
this way.  Ya, I know it gets your fingers too close to the muzzle.  [I'm conflicted.
I have psychological tension.  I suffer from institutional inertia.]

From a FaceBook.com post by Jim Marking.
I need to rant for just a moment.  I'm getting old and I’ve worked hard all my life.
I have made my reputation, the good and the bad, I didn't inherit my job or my income,
and I have worked hard to get where I am in life.  I have juggled my job, my family,
and made many sacrifices up front to secure a life for my family.  It wasn’t always easy
and still isn't, but I did it all while maintaining my integrity and my principles.
I made mistakes and tried to learn from them.  I have friends of every walk of life and
if you’re in my circle, it should be understood that I don’t have to remind you of what
I’d be willing to do for you.
     However . . .
I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my
work ethic.  People who have sacrificed nothing and feel entitled to receive everything.
I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if
necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it themselves.
I'm really tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming,
which, no one is allowed to debate.
I'm really tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all parties
talk like their opinions matter to the common man.  I’m tired of any of them even
pretending they can relate to the life and bank account that I have.
I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.
I’m upset that I’m labeled as a racist because I am proud of my heritage.  I never
stole any one's land, the government did that . . .
I’m tired of being told I need to accept the latest fad or politically correct stupidity
or befriending a group that’s intent on killing me because I won’t convert to their
point of view.
I'm really tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions.
Especially the ones that want me to fund it.  I'm tired of hearing them blame the
government, or discrimination, or big-whatever for their problems.
Yes, I'm really tired.  But, I'm also glad to be in the twilight of my life.  Because
mostly, I'm not going to have to see the retched, depressing world these young useless
idiots are creating.  And lastly, because even though I shouted from the rooftops, no
one listened or seemed to give a damn.  You reap what you sow, and so do your children.
No one is entitled to anything.  You have a choice to work, a choice to stay off drugs,
a choice to make something of yourself.  I have nothing to do with your choice.
That's all on you.  You are entitled to what you earn.

I love Nashville.  It's an ongoing dumpster fire.  The sound of sirens and racing cars at
night, that often crash (it's not like in the movies).  The sound of gun fire at all times of day.
The bad guys thinking that they will never be prosecuted, because Glenn Funk is the District
Attorney (and they are correct).  But, the bad guys are often shot.  Doesn't make the news
unless the narrative can be twisted to serve an anti-gun agenda or the Black Lives Matter agenda.
Just as defensive gun use is under reported, so criminals getting shot is grossly under
reported.  I wonder why?

Do you see how this applies to your cryptology?  Our messages (information) travel in

Time in one direction (maybe more).  Space in 3 dimensions (maybe more).
1.     Alice:  Think of a number.  Write it down, so you can't change it.
2.     Bob:  Done.
3.     Alice:  Reveal your number.
4.     Bob:  <Turns the paper over to reveal 15.>
5.     Alice:  Turn your dinner plate over.
6.     Bob:  <Turns his dinner plate over to reveal a paper taped to the bottom of the plate
with the number 15 written on it.>
Old magic trick.  No big deal.  You get it, right?  How does Alice's choice of where to look,
correspond to going back in time to write 15 on the paper?  How does the amount of time
between steps 4 and 5, which Alice controls, affect the game?
"Okay, Staff, give us a hint."
Two entangled particles have well defined probabilities of being in certain states.  We can't
force the wave function to collapse into a certain state.  But we will know the state of the
particle under the dinner plate, based on the state of the particle of the entangled pair that
we possess.  We force the collapse of our particle of pair A.  We now know the state of the
particle under the dinner plate.  If it is not 15, Alice waits, and checks the next entangled
pair, B.  If it is 15, Alice tells Bob to check under his plate.
Do you understand what Sabine is doing?  She's really sticking it to the Old Guard.

CWP, 4 April MMXXIII Anno Domini

Greetings Sheepdogs,
This newsletter is continuing education for students of defensive pistolcraft.
Why should you be reading my blog?
My training record is listed at the end of the blog posting.  Lead by example.
Because it's really the only type of leadership.  Doesn't matter what you say.
If your subordinates / students see you cutting corners, they will think that
it's okay, and do likewise.  If they see you meticulously following the safety
rules, they will think that that is the norm and do likewise.
If I thought the training that I took was bad, I did not list it.  If you don't
have anything good to say, don't say anything.
This of course does not mean that I know what I'm talking about.
It just means that I've tried to educate myself.  So, I'm not unintentionally
spewing nonsense.  Now, what I'm doing intentionally, you'll have to decide.

God said that Cain killed Able.  God does not mention a weapon.  Because it doesn't
matter.  Only the very weak of mind use terms such as "gun violence".  Because only
such persons would attribute violence to inanimate objects.

The culture you live in conditions you.  Be aware.  Be careful.
     Don't confuse decisiveness with aggression.
Real Christian pastors say that we live in this world, but we are not of this world.
We reject the cultural norms.  We reject the political correctness.  We reject the
wokeness.  We reject baby murder.  We reject homosexuality.
The Dowelltown United Methodist Church (my former church) voted to disaffiliate
from the United Methodist Church.  It cost them $15,000 to buy their way out of the
United Methodist Church.  It was a unanimous vote.  Why?  Because homosexuality
is a perverted sex crime.  Always has been, always will be.  Big church institutions
change their dogma with time.  The word of God never changes.
That is why transsexuals attack (with rifles) traditional churches, as in Nashville, TN.

"Obsolete?" by John Farnam
https://defense-training.com/obsolete-2/
“OBSOLETE, adj.  No longer used by the timid.  A word which some
lexicographer has marked ‘obsolete’ is ever thereafter an object of dread and
loathing to the fool writer, but if it is a good word and has no exact modern
equivalent equally good, it is good enough for the good writer.
Indeed, a writer’s attitude toward ‘obsolete’ words is as true a measure of
his literary ability as anything except the character of his work.  A dictionary of
obsolete and obsolescent words would not only be singularly rich in strong and
sweet parts of speech; it would add large possessions to the vocabulary of every
competent writer, who might not happen to be a competent reader.”

knowledge, experience, or training in the subject; and are advocating criminal
stupidity.
The correct solution is always for the child to flee.

"Yes, I agree with you that driving away is the best defense.
In the case you cite, pulling over and stopping, letting the other guy
drive by, would probably have been a reasonable thing to do.
Shooting without aiming, his eyes appears to be closed, is always a bad idea,
as it endangers innocent bystanders.  Shooting from inside a car is always
a bad idea, as the enclosed structure will cause ear damage.
If your car is blocked, that may require driving backwards.
Which is worth the practice, as front steering vehicles are not stable
when driven backwards.  Also, note that when driving away backwards,
your engine block and front windshield are protecting you.  Your front
windshield is at least 2 layers of laminated glass and much stronger
than any of the other windows in your car.  The other windows are just
single pane tempered glass.  It's actually quite difficult for pistol
ammunition to penetrate a front windshield, unless the shooter is able
to get an angle perpendicular to the glass surface.  Which means he
has to get up fairly high.

party’s crew at a future date before trial."
---
Witnesses being murdered to prevent their testimony or intimidated to prevent their
testimony is a primary reason for good cases to be dropped by prosecutors.  I know of a
case in which two thugs followed the wife until she was alone.  They raped and beat her.
They told her that if her husband testified, they would do the same to their daughter.
If the wife had been situationally aware and shot the two thugs, life would have turned
out differently.  The thugs had ensured that there were no witnesses.  So she had a free
fire zone.  But she chose not to be aware.  She chose not to be armed.  She chose to be a
victim (as Col. Cooper would say).  Ya, I often get accused of blaming the victim.
---
On the other hand, if you hunt down and kill the bad guys first, you win.
But as a witness, you don't have legal discovery.  So how are you going to get the
intel to find the bad guys?  Private investigators.  As General Patton said,
"Don't worry about your flanks.  Let the enemy worry about his flanks."
(By continuously attacking until they are all dead.)
As Vito Corleone (based on Joe Profaci) demonstrated, before he was a powerful Don,
Sicilian Mafia are human (as are all criminals).  They can be killed as easily as any other human.
As Jared Reston says, some people need to be killed.
And isn't it your duty to kill them, especially if they present a threat to you and your family?
As Col. Cooper says, the criminal must fear the victim for he fears neither the cops,
nor the judge, nor the jury.
"Oh, I could never do that."
Then you better follow Greg's advice.

A while ago, Massad Ayoob wrote an article advocating learning how to carry
and fight with your pistol left-handed, if you were right-handed, and vice versa.
Because even minor injuries (not during combat) could force you to carry on the
other side, draw from the other side, etc.  I took his advice seriously.  I acquired
left-handed holsters for all of my pistols.  That's really the only piece of equipment
I had to purchase.  Everything else was ambidextrous.  Yes, all of my pistols are
ambidextrous.
As fate would have it, this morning my doctor informed me that the report of the
radiologist concerning the x-rays of my neck and right shoulder, and the analysis of
my blood tests, indicate that I have (some particular type of) arthritis in my neck
and right shoulder; and will eventually lose quite a bit of function.  She prescribed
10,000 units of vitamin D3 daily, cutting out fast food, cutting out fried food, eating
lots of green leafy vegetables (I moved to the South for the collard greens, turnip
greens, and such.  Also for the women.), and physical therapy.
My former boss at ATM Solutions was right-handed, but carried and shot
left-handed.  Because he was more proficient shooting left-handed.
Many of my right-handed students discover that they are much better shooters
when shooting left-handed.  (I have not noticed this with left-handed shooters,
but that sample population is much smaller.)  Unfortunately, few pistol classes
stress support-hand shooting enough for the student to discover this about themselves.
I will inform my employer to get a left-handed holster and I intend to shoot the
semi-annual qualification course left-handed, when next I am scheduled to shoot it.
I am confident that I will not be losing my job over this.  Actions have consequences.
My preparation and practice to carry and shoot left-handed has paid off.

Practice is the small deposits you make over time,
so that in an emergency, you can make that big withdrawal.

I went to the range and fired a slow precise shot to ensure I got the surprise break.
Sure enough the point of impact was 3 inches to the right of the point of aim at 7
yards.  (Because of recent incorrect adjustments, which included breaking one sight
pusher and damaging another.  Springfield Armory XDs are really tight.)  I then shot
5 rounds through a single hole at my point of aim.  Why?  Because my Id knew what
my Super Ego wanted, in spite of my Ego aiming at the center of the bullseye.
     "What's the point, Staff?"
That tight 5 shot group should have appeared 3 inches to the right of the center of
the bullseye.  It's very easy to compensate for errors in your equipment, especially
if you are an experienced competent shooter.  Which makes zeroing your pistol a
little tricky.  You might want to use a machine rest.
Compensating is a good skill to have in combat.

Why practice?

"Improving your firing grip while shooting one handed will always be your best
chance at doing well.  You want to concentrate on gripping with full force, which
should be the most you can bring to bear.  This needs to be a constant force, and
is where most people struggle.  The focus of our drill practice will be on a strong
and consistent one-handed grip.
First, apply intense pressure with your pinky.  Think of it crushing the
frame inward.  Don’t worry, the rest of your fingers will do their job, just focus on
the pinky.
Second, tighten the muscles in your shoulders.  You want good connection
between the hand, arm and shoulders."
[I disagree.  I think your shoulders should be relaxed and therefore down.  Because you need
them to point the pistol.  Tense muscles are slow.  Relaxed muscles are fast.

1.  Dry-fire practice as much as you can.

3.  Practice more. Yes, more than that.
---
I disagree.  None of Mr. Fike's recommendations will defeat autonomic nervous system
responses to report (the BANG!) and recoil (the kick).  If you want* to defeat all autonomic
nervous system responses, you must learn and practice the surprise trigger break.  You can
see and listen to Col. Jeff Cooper explain it at
"The master speaks on: trigger break"

Excerpt:
"You let it happen.  You don't force it."
---
If you don't understand the surprise trigger break, you won't execute it correctly.  If you
are not surprised on each shot, you are not doing it correctly.  If you think you don't
have enough time for a surprise trigger break, you are WRONG!  You don't have enough
time to miss.  The surprise trigger break ensures you hit.  The wobble of your sight movie
(because a picture is static, your view of your sights and the target is never static in combat)
does not matter.  The surprise break will ensure a good hit.†
---
* A lot of people pay lip service to getting better at shooting.  Very few are willing to expend
the money for expert training ($250 per day is normal), or the time and effort necessary for
practice (2000 correct deliberate intentional repetitions.  You may need to execute 5000 in
order to get 2000 correct.  If you think every repetition you execute is correct, you are in
a state of self-deception and need to pay an expert to watch you.  You can do these repetitions
dry, no need for live ammo.).
Of course, there are instructors who charge much more in an attempt to weed out the
non-serious students, those who are just looking for certificates or an "experience".
In this world, you get what you pay for.
---
† The human is God's master piece of creation.  If you let it work, it will function magnificently.
If you force your will, if you think you know better than God when the shot should be fired,
you will get suboptimal results.  Just as God will give you the words, so God will give you
the shot.  Because God is real, as in operates in the real world (Supernatural does not mean
not-real.  One could argue that much of quantum mechanics is supernatural.).  The shooter's
belief or non-belief doesn't matter.  A lot of people (as Albert Einstein et al) don't believe in
quantum mechanics.  Doesn't matter.  Quantum mechanics still works (except when it doesn't,
as in Einstein's Theory of General Relativity as it relates to gravitation).
Gravitation is not a force field, because it does not cause a particular force at a particular
point in space.  Galileo di Vincenzo Bonaiuti de' Galilei dropped a large cannon ball and a
small cannon ball from the top of the leaning tower of Pisa in Pisa, Duchy of Florence
(where he was born).  Everyone saw that he released them at the same time.  Everyone
saw that they hit the ground at the same time.  A larger force would have been required for
the larger (more massive) cannon ball to get the same acceleration as the smaller cannon ball.
So the larger cannon ball experienced a larger force (was heavier) than the smaller cannon ball.
Okay, so it is a force per unit mass, an acceleration field.
Gravitation is not an acceleration field, because it does not cause the same acceleration
for all particles at a given point in space.  Gravitation bends the trajectory of photons (light
particles), which are massless and chargeless.  So in a sense, photons don't accelerate.  In
the sense that photons don't travel along curved paths (a change in direction is an acceleration)
and they don't speed up or slow down.  They always travel at speed c, the speed of light in a
vacuum.  (When light appears to be traveling slower than c in material as quantified by the
material's index of refraction, that is actually the molecules in the material absorbing photons
and emitting photons that causes this decrease in speed.  When the photon is traveling in
free space, between the molecules (Yes, I meant molecules, not atoms.) of the material,
it is traveling at c.)
The generally prevailing model of gravitation presently is that masses cause gravitation
by bending space-time.  So gravitation is a curvature of space-time.  So, the photon is traveling
along a "straight line" through this curved space-time.  Why do we use this term, "space-time"?
Because masses don't just curve space, they also change the rate at which clocks tick, to
observers not moving with the clock.
Is this the final theory?  No.  We have evidence that this theory is wrong.  The fudge factor
is "dark matter" / "dark energy" (The term really refers to mass, not matter in general.  And
mass is the same as energy, E = mc².).  The problem is that astronomical observations from
which we derive estimates of mass do not correspond with the motions of astronomical bodies
from which we can also derive an estimate for the amount of mass in the region.  So there
must be more mass out there that we cannot see.  Maybe.
If it is not observable, it's not in the realm of science.  Most things aren't observable.

Excerpt:
". . . if someone has already grabbed you, you are too far behind the curve to be
able to get a firearm – especially one from concealment."
"We must eliminate the idea that one cannot be injured by an individual without
a visible weapon in their hand.  The danger is not the tool – the firearm, the knife,
the club – the danger is the individual.  The individual is the weapon; everything else
is simply a tool."
"The Marine Corps actually trains infantrymen to look past the end of their rifle."
"Somebody asks, “Do you have a light?”
You say, “Sorry, I cannot help you.”  That is going to slow them down.
If someone comes past that, they are telling you, “I have chosen you.  Today is your
day.”  You do not pick the day. The day [bad guy] picks you."
"An emergency response must come before the conscious thought happens.
The training in open hands, firearms, or edged weapons must be done before you
need it.  The training on awareness must be done before you are surrounded by a
group of 12 to14 year-olds who don’t care what you want.  They want what they
want."

     "GUNFIGHT 2 - SURREPTITIOUS DRAW
Another one.  The robber is profiled the moment he walks in.  Clerk already has
weapon in hand and uses the concealment of the box to point in.  This is a perfect
example of preemption.  The robber is already pointed in, but the clerk has passed
him by in the decision to shoot . . . and shoots first.
Again, excellent example of mental timing and outpacing the other man's
OODA Loop.  And again, another example of why face shooting surpasses
everything at close intervals.  Three shots to the robbers face, as the clerk moved
off line would have enhanced not only his safety but also his ability to end the
problem quicker and more decisively.  We really need to drop that center of mass
crap."

Learn why the most underrated shooting fundamental, follow-through,
is crucial to mastering marksmanship." by Richard Nance
https://www.handgunsmag.com/editorial/following-through-shooting-fundamental/470164
Excerpts:
"There are two components to follow-through: mechanical and mental."
"Staying on your sights is not only important for follow-up shots,
but it also helps ensure you hit with the first shot.  If you start to look over your sights
to see your rounds impact, there's a chance you will alter the orientation of your
muzzle enough to miss."
"Even if he's fallen and has sustained a wound that will eventually be fatal,
that doesn't preclude an assailant from shooting you from the ground before
he succumbs to his wounds."
"If you don't follow through, you could miss your target.  Even if you hit,
statistics bear out that it will likely take more than one hit with a handgun round
to end the fight."

" VIDEO: "Methods of Self Defense" " by Docent
https://practicaleschatology.blogspot.com/2023/03/video-methods-of-self-defense.html
When I was in the Marine Corps (the Old Corps, when it had tanks, helicopters,
and scout/snipers), we were taught baton techniques where we kept both hands on
the baton, much like using a rifle with a bayonet in close quarters.  Swinging a baton
around with one hand, as in "Resident Evil", is pretty stupid; as one is easily
disarmed.
Note that the handgun disarming techniques usually break fingers, wrists, and
hands.  So, should be practiced with dummy guns that have had the trigger guard
cut off.
The police officer's uniform doesn't make sense.  The shoulder strap is to support
the weight of the pistol.  But, the police officer has the pistol holstered on his right
side and the shoulder is over his right shoulder, supporting the weight of something
on his left hip.  Maybe a sword?  (That's the way Marine Corps NCOs and Officers
wear it.)

"Long-Distance Handgun Shooting: How and Why to Take a Long Shot
The author attends a class with instructor Scott Reitz and comes away
being able to reliably hit a target at 250 yards with a handgun.  And that's
not an exaggeration." by Richard Nance
https://www.handgunsmag.com/editorial/how-and-why-to-take-a-long-shot/457123
Nance advocates "having a loose grip is advantageous because it will allow
the muzzle to rise more in recoil, which will set the bullet on a higher trajectory."
[I disagree.  I think you should use the same grip all the time. -- Jon Low]
"The tendency is to peer over your sights to “see” your hit, but if you do that,
there will be no hit to see."  [Stay on your sights!  Follow through. -- Jon Low]
As Nance says, the exercise is for confidence.  If you are comfortable shooting
targets at 200 yards, you will be confident shooting targets at 7 yards.  If you are
confident, you will take the shot.  If you lack confidence, you won't take the shot,
because you will fear hitting an innocent bystander or the hostage.

"Are Ground Slams WORTH the Risk in Self-Defense?"
by Tim Larkin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMvmtZMXZmg
Practicing in a gym on mats is not the same as throwing a guy to the ground in
the real world, where the surface is hard.

You don't have to draw fast.  You have to draw competently.  Your competent draw will
be much faster than any incompetent draw.  You will achieve this by 2000 correct repetitions.
(You must get expert training.  Otherwise, you won't know what a correct draw is.  And
you'll be practicing incorrectly, forming bad habits.  It may take 5000 repetitions to break
your bad habits.  Best to avoid that idiocy.)
Spread the practice out over many days.  (Unload, 5 slow correct presentations in the
morning before you go to work, load, go to work; unload, 5 slow correct presentations
in the evening when you get home, load.  Ten per day, 200 days, less than a year.)
You don't want to cause repetitive stress injuries.  Especially if you have preexisting
medical conditions.  Everything in moderation.  No, you can't make competence happen fast.
You will be competent before you need the skill by starting to practice NOW!
If you promise yourself to start practicing next week, you might not be competent in
time for the event.  Remember, you don't get to choose the time and place of the event.
God grants you free will to learn, arm yourself, and practice.  That is how He protects
you.  You don't get protection by asking for a hedge of protection (that's just a traditional
prayer).  You get protection by doing the work to protect yourself and your loved ones.
That is how you protect your loved ones.  No one will force you to take responsibility
for your self protection and the protection of your loved ones.  In fact, the Devil will put
many road blocks in your way.  If you shirk your responsibility, the Devil will laugh at
your apathy and neglect when the event takes you unprepared.

How do you shoot fast?  By getting your pistol out of your holster and on target
fast.  Not by pressing the trigger fast.  A fast presentation will give you all the time
in the world to align your sights (or index* your pistol if you are too close to use
sights) and smoothly press your trigger.  2000 correct repetitions will give you this
fast presentation.  The presentation starts with the pistol in the holster and ends
with the sights on target (pistol indexed), slack out of the trigger.
The decision to shoot or not to shoot is a separate intellectual activity and
should never be part of the presentation.  (Just as nobody teaches Tap, Rack, Bang
anymore.  The shooting should never be part of any malfunction clearing drill.)
So you will never be as fast as those at the Rogers Shooting School.  But you
won't be shooting at movement either.  You will only be shooting at targets that
you have positively identified, which takes time.  Much more time than would
allow you to meet the standards of several shooting schools.  You have to decide
what you are training for.  And how you are going to train for that.
* Indexing your pistol generally means firing from a close contact position --
bottom of the grip is pressed tight against your rib cage, top of the pistol is tilted
away from your body to prevent the slide getting fouled in your clothing (or
hitting your body), elbow pulled back as far as possible.  Support side arm is
protecting your head or attacking the enemy's eyes.

"If you prepare for the emergency,
the emergency ceases to exist!"
-- Sherman House

I attended Ballistic Trauma and Stop the Bleed classes taught by Joey Story
at Strategic Edge Gun Range, a private gun club that I belong to, on 12 March 2023.
Some of things I learned:
Hands-only CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation)
(it's not worth the risk to put your mouth on some stranger's mouth).
Six minutes without oxygen to the brain and cells die.  So, you've got time.  There
are 6 minutes of residual oxygen in the blood, so just keep circulating it.
1.  Make sure they need help.  No, it's not obvious.
2.  Make sure the scene is safe.  You don't help anyone by getting yourself injured
or killed.
3.  Call 911.  Help is always good.  The ambulance crew is better equipped than
you are.
4.  Start CPR.  Get them on the ground.  Expose their chest.  If she is wearing a
brassier, cut it off.  The underwire in the bra will mess up the AED (automatic
external defibulator).  Yes, bras have wires, metal clasps, and all kinds of other things.
Send someone to find the AED.  Tell someone to call 911.  Hands between the
nipples.  Push to the spine.  Ya, you're going to break ribs and sternum, so what?
You don't need to do mouth-to-mouth resuscitation because pushing and releasing will
pump the lungs as well as the heart.  And exchanging body fluids with the victim is
not a smart move.
Only stop when:
help arrives,
the victim revives, or
you're exhausted.
100 to 120 compressions per minute.  If you don't have a metronome, go fast and
hard.  It's really hard to hit 100 compressions per minute.  It's exhausting if you're
doing it correctly.  No need to breathe for the victim.  Your compressions are
substituting for the victim's 12 to 20 breaths per minute.  If you get exhausted and
have to swap with another person, do it quickly, less than 10 seconds.  Otherwise,
the victims blood pressure will drop and you're starting from scratch.
It's hard to feel for a pulse.  Check the carotid artery under the jaw bone.
You're probably feeling your own pulse.
Just as your pistol, you have to carry trauma gear at all times.  You don't get to
decide when the bad thing is going to happen.  Tourniquets (4, because the victim
has 4 limbs, or because there are multiple victims), chest seals (at least 2, because
there is an entry and exit wound), hemostatic gauze (Israeli battle dressings or such,
because tourniquets only work on limbs and chest seals only work on the air cavity,
neck to navel).
How to treat for shock.  Too many details to mention here.
Epi pins treat the symptom.  Benedril treats the cause.
To stop the bleed:  direct pressure (constant, continuous), pack the wound,
tourniquet.
Soap and water work better than hand sanitizer.
Always know where you are.  What are you going to tell 911?
When searching for wounds, get the victim naked and rake all areas of the body
with your finger tips.  Search carefully.  There might not be much blood.  The
bleeding might be internal.  But, you will find it, if you search carefully.  External
clotting can hide the wound.
There are all kinds of tourniquets.  Only CAT and SOFT-T are adequate.
The others are inadequate.
Stop the bleeding first.  If you do CPR without stopping the bleeding, you're
just pushing the blood out of the body.
Impaled object.  Leave it in.  Pack around it.
     Splint to minimize movement.
Do what you can.  Don't worry about the victim dying.  He probably will.
You did your best.  Good job!
Air goes in and out.  Blood goes round and round.  Anything else is bad.
After the event, talk to your pastor or loved ones.  It helps.
[If you think that you are tough and won't get traumatized, you're probably wrong.
Unless, you're a psychopath.  Or, have experienced this many times before. -- Jon Low]

Excerpt:
"The reporters and news anchors expressed amazement of the rapidity and brutality
of the confrontation.  Believing that brutality is unpredictable is nothing but naivety
on the part of people who have never dealt with violence.  The entire incident proceeded
according to a logical progression.  It isn’t the progression that is commonly seen in
“civilized” upper class cultures, but it is widely understood by others.  It isn’t a
black/white thing.  The same type of confrontation would be seen with hillbilly white folks,
biker gangs, skinheads, Mexican cartel members, and others."
"The reporter’s amazement led to questioning about why the violence occurred and
how it happened so quickly.  The reporter was truly perplexed.  The homeowner answered
“I really can’t answer that question.”  He can’t answer because the basic idea of settling
disputes with violence is outside the reporter’s comprehension."

" When "Imminence" Does Not Mean "Immediate" " by Andrew Branca
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSGRqAx0tXs
On March 5, 2020 Stephanie Clark, mother of a 5-year-old, found herself once again
subject to violent domestic abuse by her live-in boyfriend.  After inflicting serious
physical and mental abuse for some time, the boyfriend threatened to break Clark's
ribs after she had fallen asleep.
Clark retrieved a gun, shot the boyfriend once, then retrieved a second gun and shot
him again.  He would die of his injuries.
The next day, March 6, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison charged Clark
with second-degree murder.  Clark raised the legal defense of self-defense.
At trial, the jury interrupted deliberations to ask the judge for clarification on what
was meant by the legal term "imminent," a required element of self-defense.  The judge
responded that "imminent" meant "immediate."  The jury then convicted Clark as charged.
This past Monday a MN court of appeals reversed Clark's conviction, holding that
"immediate" was too narrow a definition of "imminent."

the people continue to vote Democrat.  Of course, all of the tax paying people

"Shooting to Slide Lock: Self-Defense or Overkill?" by Andrew Branca
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wqx8dlLdvs0
Can you shoot the bad guy in the back?  YES!  As long as the bad guy is a threat,
to anyone.
Don't chase the bad guys (unless they are kidnapping your grandchild).
Don't shoot at the bad guys running away from you.  Unless they are kidnapping
your grandchild, and you are competent.  Negligently hitting your grandchild is not
something your child will forgive you for.
Don't shoot the bad guy lying unresponsive on the ground.  You're allowed to
make mistakes, as long as they as they are reasonable mistakes.  If you've taken
the bad guy's gun and then shoot him in the back of the head, as he is lying on the
ground unresponsive, you can't claim he presented as an imminent lethal threat to
anyone.  Your attorney might be able to, if you keep your mouth shut.
Andrew feigns ignorance of the post incident machinations of the last incident.
But, I assure you that the attorney has come up with a brilliant articulation of why
the good guy feared (and that's all that is legally necessary) that the bad guy lying
on the ground, unarmed (at least not possessing the pistol that he initially used,
which was a fake, but that doesn't matter, everyone thought it was real; he could
have had other weapons), and unresponsive was reasonably believed to be playing
opossum and still an imminent threat.  The bad guy had used the tactic in the past.
No, the good guy need not have known this.  (For you legal beagles, WHY?
Did the fact affect the good guy's decision making?  Did the fact affect the prosecutor's
decision making?)
That's why you have to have a top notch attorney.  Do you have the money to
hire one?  That's why you have to have top notch private investigators.  Do you
have the money to hire them?  That's why you need a self-defense insurance policy.

Most of the people residing in the United States have been taught from the day they
were born that the police are here to protect them from harm.  Nothing could be further
from the truth.  It is the job of the police to enforce laws, good or bad.  It is the job of the
courts to see the law is enforced fairly.  Unfortunately, they have been much too busy
protecting the rights of criminals to provide simple justice to someone they see as a
vigilante, that has taken the law into their own hands.
The police cannot arrest someone for what they might do; they can only act after a
crime has been committed.  That is why restraining orders do not work.
Did you know, in spite of all of this, every year in this country there are approximately
twice as many criminals shot by private citizens than are shot by the police?  Did you know
many police officers go through their entire careers without ever having to draw their
weapon?  This is simply because they are seldom there when the crime goes down.  The
streets have always been a far safer place for a law enforcement officer than for a victim.
Remember, the right to bear arms is unique to the United States of America.  We fought
for it.  We died for it.  That is what makes us the envy of the world.  But when you step
across a border you give up all of your rights.
. . . approximately 12% of all policemen shot on duty are shot with their own gun.
[If these cops can't retain their pistols, what makes you think that you can?  I hope your
answer is "I have taken courses in weapons retention at Tac Con." and "I have practiced
the weapon retention techniques that I learned." and "I always carry concealed." and
"I never tell anyone that I am carrying."  -- Jon Low]

"Self-Defense Law Optimization in EIGHT States!" by Andrew Branca
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDXXj9K8ZIM
The past week or so have seen a plethora of self-defense favorable laws either
advance through legislatures or actually become law -- sometimes having to override
a governor's veto!
Today we discuss eight states -- North Carolina, North Dakota Kentucky, Oklahoma,
Missouri, New York, Florida, and Idaho -- that have enacted or advanced improvements
to the laws that privilege their residents to use force in defense of themselves,
their family, and their property.

“Is there no virtue among us?  If there is not, we are without hope!
No form of government, existing nor theoretical, will keep us from harm.
To think that any government, in any form, will insure liberty and happiness
for a dishonorable population represents the height of self-deception.”

I wholeheartedly agree!  Just as you wear ear protection and eye protection,
you should wear hand protection.
Of course, you should also grind off all sharp edges on all of your equipment.
A Dremel tool works well for that.
Don't be afraid to grind the bottom of your trigger guard, if it is causing a blister
on the joint of your middle finger (between the middle phalanx and the proximal
phalanx) giving you "Glock knuckle".  Everyone under cuts their trigger guards
where it connects to the grip.
Don't be afraid to grind the top of the tang, if it is hurting your thumb joint
(between the proximal phalanx and the metacarpal, sesamoid bones).  Everyone
does this on their Springfield Armory XDs.  And many people do it on their Glocks.
A colleague at work told me that he had never had any problem with such things.
So I asked him if he had ever taken a real training class where they had fired 500 rounds
per day for four days in a row.  He said no.  He had never heard of anything so outlandish.
He had never shot more than the 50 rounds, slow fire (because the time limits are very
generous) in one day during our qualification every 6 months.  Well, there you have it.
What I speak of is outlandish.
[My daughter also says that what I say is outlandish.  She rose to the rank of Lt. Cmd. as a
Naval Surface Warfare Officer, participated in the rescue of cargo ships and tankers from
pirates, and in all those years never came in contact with any covert operators.  Just goes
to show that persons can have entirely different experiences in the Armed Forces.  Much

"+P Ammunition: What it Means to You
What you need to know about cartridge pressure."

Excerpt:
"In general, factory ammunition is loaded to pressure levels standardized by the
Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI).  However, there
are "+P" versions of some handgun cartridges that operate at 10 to 20 percent higher
pressures.  What this extra pressure does is produce greater velocity and muzzle
energy, which is of particular importance when discussing handgun ammunition
designed for self-defense.  Greater velocity and muzzle energy translates to more
kinetic energy behind the bullet, and better terminal performance.
However, these loads are intended for use only in firearms designed to handle
those higher pressure levels.  The "+P" designation of these loads is usually found
on the ammunition box and the cartridge headstamp.  Firearms designed for such
ammunition normally have a "+P" marking on the barrel, slide, or frame."

"The Serpa Compendium" by Greg Ellifritz
https://www.activeresponsetraining.net/the-serpa-compendium
Greg list 2 reasons for not using the Blackhawk SERPA holster (or any similar holster):
1.  Lots of documented cases of persons shooting themselves when drawing the pistol out
of these holsters, because the trigger finger continues to press (as would happen in high
stress situations) and hits the trigger.
2.  The retention mechanism getting jammed by stuff (dirt, snow, small rocks, etc.) getting
into the mechanism, preventing the person from drawing the pistol.
Another reason cited in documents from the U.S. Department of the Interior, National
Park Service, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is that when inserting the
pistol backwards into the holster (the support-hand-only technique taught at FLETC, the
Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers [there is one in Charleston, SC]), the pistol
will get jammed.  The holster has to be disassembled to extract the pistol.  I would be
happy to send you copies of these documents.  Marcus Wynne had sent them to me.
Also happy to see the cited link in Greg's article,
"Army Unveils Holster for Modular Handgun System" by Matthew Cox
https://www.military.com/kitup/2017/12/01/army-unveils-holster-modular-handgun-system.html
saying that the U.S. Army is dumping the SERPA holster.

You, yes YOU, should have at least 2 exact duplicate copies of your self-defense
pistol.  I have 5 exactly the same, every modification.
Because you need to take a spare to every class you attend, because Murphy's Law
guarantees that something will go wrong with your pistol (but only at the worst possible
time).  Redundancy is good.
Because in any self-defense incident, the police will take your pistol into evidence.
I've lost three pistols in this way.  Ya, I spent lots of money on attorney fees to get
two of them back.  It wasn't worth it.  If I were more mature at the time, I would
have abandoned those pistols.
When your car is in the shop for repairs or normal maintenance, you need something
to get to work.  It should not be a clunker that may break down.  It should be reliable.
It should be an exact duplicate, so you know how to operate it in a high stress situation
to avoid the collision caused by your lack of familiarity with the replacement, which is
negligence.  You must be able to drive backwards, fast.  This requires practice, because
front steering cars are not stable when driven backwards.  (That's why most forklifts
have rear wheel steering.)

"After the horrific police response to Uvalde, it’s great to see some officers from
Nashville handle business correctly.  Watch this six minute badge cam video.
A quick explanation for those of you who have never done this stuff or had active
shooter response training . . .
The officers make immediate entry to the school but don’t have any actionable
intelligence about where the killer might be located.  They correctly began a slower
search of all the open rooms in the school.   Once they got an indication of where the
killer was (motionless body in the hallway and sounds of gunfire) they rushed to that area.
The leading three officers were armed with a rifle, a shotgun, and a handgun.  Any of
those weapons would be fine in the close quarters of a classroom.  Once they realized the
shooter might be down a long hallway in an open area, you hear an officer say
“Push the LPVO” at about the 5:35 mark.  “LPVO” is an acronym for “Low Power
Variable Optic.”  It’s a lower magnification rifle scope that is the better choice for longer
range confrontations.  “Push the LPVO” is an order to move the guy with the scoped
rifle up to the front of the group to best insure the most accurate shot.
     Excellent work."

The editor tried to make this a pro-gun-control article.  But what it really shows is that
running away works.  "Shelter in place" makes it much easier for the bad guy to kill the victims.
Just as disarming the victims makes it much easier for the bad guy to kill the victims.  The
school had to wait 14 minutes for the police to arrive.  If any of the adults had been armed, they
could have stopped the bad guy; much sooner, with fewer casualties.  The best thing to stop
a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

I listened to the Metro Nashville Police Department press briefing today (4/4/2023) on the
radio.  They had every police officer involved in the shooting of the bad guy (gal) describe
exactly what happened from their perspective.  They are doing their best to be transparent,
because they don't want the vigilantes hunting the trans.  This is actually, quite admirable.
Which do you think is more effective for a church security team:  stopping the bad guy
in the church when he is shooting, or killing the bad guy as he sleeps at home in his parent's
house?  Only one scenario results in zero friendly casualties.  [Before you get your panties
in a wad, remember that this was the tactic employed in the Global War on Terrorism, which
is ongoing.  Isn't it nice to be alive and safe in the U.S.?  Well it didn't happen by accident.
All of those who presented a threat to the U.S. were identified, located, and arrested
(Guantanamo Bay) or killed.  No, it wasn't arbitrary.  Some O-6 or above had to sign a finding.
(at least in my experience)  And believe me, a lot of the Colonels and Captains shirked their responsibility and refused to sign.  So, there are a log of enemy armed combatants still out
there.  Remember, Joe Biden opposed the killing of Osama bin Laden and many others.
When we graduated Intel School (NMITC), the commanding officer told us that when
we were fighting the Soviets, the enemy was easy to find, hard to kill (big armored units).
Now that we are fighting the terrorists, the enemy is hard to find, easy to kill.  That's why
we are increasing the Intel Marines from 5% to 15% of the Marine Corps. Our job is to
find them.]

"Get Woke, Go Broke: Silicon Valley Bank Edition" by Docent

Silicon Valley Bank.  When I was the treasurer of the Silicon Valley (formerly
Santa Clara Valley) Chapter of AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications and
Electronics Association), I would deposit the chapter funds from the monthly
meeting in Silicon Valley Bank.  The lobby was always awash with Chinese from
China who would ask me to start a company with them.  They had lots of money.
They just needed an American to help them.  They didn't care what kind of
company you wanted to start.  They had venture capital money and were ready
to go.  No, I never got involved with them.  I wanted to keep my security clearance.
Speaking of "Be woke, go broke."  Claremont Institute's Center for the American
Way of Life database of corporate contributions shows that Silicon Valley Bank
donated 70 million dollars to social justice initiatives that sought to advance the
Black Lives Matter agenda.  Hat tip to NewsMax.com.
Signature Bank.  For the idiots who "believed" in crypto currencies.  Because
if they "understood" the underlying mathematical basis for crypto currencies, they
would never have invested in such.  Oh, maybe some of the depositors figured it out.
Oh, maybe that's why they executed a run on Signature Bank.

I got sucked into a discussion with colleagues at work.  E wanted to buy a new
motorcycle.  H said, buy a used motorcycle, it's cheaper, so you won't have to take
out a loan.  I agreed with H, noting that my father said one should never take out a
loan to buy anything that depreciates, that is stupidity.  Borrowing money to buy a
thing only makes a little sense (and assumes risk) when one believes the thing will
appreciate.  One can never know that a thing will appreciate.  Even a rise in value
is not appreciation if the rise in inflation or cost of living is greater than the rise in
the value of the thing.  Dave Ramsey says, never borrow money, under any conditions.
E said that he "wanted" to buy new, as opposed to having any logical reasons for
buying new.  I said that is fine as you are a free man.  That is free of any morality.
Because E is (or claims to be) an atheist.  But, if you are a Christian (which I suspect
he is de facto or would like to be), your money is not your money.  Your money is
God's money.  You are just a steward of the money that God has given you.  Buying
new glorifies E.  Buying used and using the vehicle to do good works (whatever
they may be, even living a good life), glorifies God.
The fact that this resonated with him, caused me to think that E is on the road to
becoming a Christian.
The conversation degenerated into "I have a good morality.  I don't need God.
My opinions are my own.  I came up with them myself.  I don't let anyone influence
me." and other nonsense.  (One's beliefs are based on the media that one chooses to
consume.  Including the violent anti-police rap music.)  To which I replied, without
the Word of God, what are you basing your morality on?  For instance, do you
think abortion is okay?
"Yes, it is a woman's right to choose."
If you had a God based morality, you would know that murder is wrong
(a morality), and that life starts at conception (a scientific truth denied by those
who choose not to believe it, a morality [a choice]).  So you would conclude that
abortion is baby murder and wrong.  But because you have a human based morality,
abortion is not murder, is not wrong; rather it is a woman's right, a Constitutional
right, a human right; the father has no rights in the matter; the society has no say
in the matter; etc.
Do you see how your morality is derived from the assumptions you choose to
start with?  Your choices determine your morality.  This is purely deductive
reasoning.  (No inductive reasoning.)  Morality is a branch of philosophy.
Thus, it is pure thought.  Nothing in the real world affects your morality.  Only
your choices as to what you believe affect your morality.
---
God put us here to work.  Rotarians believe that work is honorable.  This is an
intended slight against the idle rich.  Do not confuse your earning money with
being a steward of God's money.  Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto
God what is God's.  Your tithe is a transfer from one steward to another steward.
Due diligence is required.  Giving God's money to "administrative overhead" or
"fund raising" is poor judgment.  In the end, God will ask you about that, "What
were you thinking?"  "Were you too lazy to do your due diligence?  And just set
up an automatic payment?"
Pray that God gives you good judgment before he gives you great wealth.
You don't want to be Jeffrey Edward Epstein .  You might have fantasies of how
cool that would be.  But, it really wasn't.  Pray that God denies you wealth if you
cannot handle it.  Remember the Prodigal Son.

[I have a couple of these pistols chambered in 45 ACP.  I have found that they need
quite a bit of gunsmithing to make them reliable.  The pistols have a magazine
capacity of 10 rounds, as opposed to the Glock's or SA XD's 13 rounds.  This is
because the cartridges are stacked in a manner in-between a single stack and a double
stack.  This allows the American to have a grip with smaller girth, allowing persons
with smaller hands to use their pistol.  The American comes with 2 back-straps to
increase the size of the grip, but can also be used without a backstrap (and perhaps
wrapped with tape) to accommodate a smaller hand.

FBI limits database of active shooting cases"
by Stephen Dinan
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2023/mar/20/good-guys-guns-stop-far-more-shootings-fbi-reports/
Hat tip to Stephen P. Wenger, http://spw-duf.info
Excerpt:  (Thanks to Stephen P. Wenger, because the article is behind a pay wall.)
Mercedes Perez crashed her car into another car on a San Antonio street in 2021
and then jumped out with a gun and blazed away at neighbors who came out of
their homes to see what happened.  She killed one man, the car’s owner, and
wounded his wife and son before another neighbor heard the shooting.  He grabbed
his gun and ran to the scene, where he killed Perez with a shot to the neck.
John Lott, founder of the Crime Prevention Research Center, said it’s a case of a
good guy with a gun stopping a bad guy with a gun.  Yet the incident was left out
of the FBI’s database of active shooting incidents.  Mr. Lott said it’s one of dozens
of such incidents missing from the bureau’s statistics, which he said has fueled a
false narrative that rarely do good guys with guns stop shootings.  The FBI says
the rate of active shooting incidents ended by good guys with guns is 4.4% over
the years.  Mr. Lott says it’s 34.4%.  The FBI’s conclusions are widely cited,
particularly as new shootings revive old debates about gun control and whether
more access to weapons is safer or more dangerous.  When an armed citizen
does intervene and it draws national headlines – as happened at an Indiana mall
food court last year – news accounts are quick to point to the FBI’s findings as
evidence that it’s a rarity.  The FBI’s numbers also have been used in court cases,
and they pepper legislative debates on Capitol Hill and in state assemblies.
Mr. Lott said the numbers are so distorted by shoddy work and judgment calls that they
are not just worthless but also misleading.  “It’s garbage,” Mr. Lott told The
Washington Times.  “They should be embarrassed.”  The FBI’s active shooter
definition is different from all shootings, or even mass shootings.  The FBI says
it covers instances in which someone with a firearm is “actively engaged in killing
or attempting to kill people in a populated area.”  The point is to zero in on
instances of ongoing use of a weapon and where intervention could affect the
outcome.  Instances of self-defense, drug and gang violence, hostage situations
and domestic disputes are discounted.  Mr. Lott said there are several sources of
error.  The first is the FBI’s reliance on news accounts, which he said are less
likely to cover instances of good guys with guns.  Then there are the judgment
calls about what meets the definition of an active shooter case.  The FBI says
it’s when a gun is used in a confrontation outside of a criminal incident such as
domestic violence or drug dealing.  There are also judgment calls about who
qualifies as a regular citizen, or “good guy.”  The FBI says a security guard
doesn’t count.  When those judgments are bungled, the data suffers.  In 2019,
the FBI counted 30 active shooter incidents and said none was stopped by an
armed citizen.  Mr. Lott said the bureau missed 11 incidents altogether and
misclassified one.  That was a Dec. 29 shooting at a church in White Settlement,
Texas, that the FBI listed as stopped by a security guard.  That meant it didn’t
count as a good guy with a gun.  Mr. Lott spoke to the shooter, Jack Wilson,
who said he wasn’t a security guard but just a member of the congregation.
Mr. Wilson also said probably 20 other members of the congregation were
armed that day, too . . .
[The linked article provides many more figures than does my excerpt.
“Figures don't lie but liars figure.”  As I recall the White Settlement incident,
Wilson headed and trained a volunteer security team at the church.
And the community was so named because it was founded amid three

I had a lay over in Chicago, O'Hare Airport.  Some friends met me to keep me company.
I mentioned that the black-market price for a healthy new born in Nashville was $50,000.
(As I had worked security at several hospitals in Nashville.)  They told me that in Chicago
it was $75,000.  Grey-market, I should say.  You can get an attorney to handle it for you.
So you don't get your hands dirty.  In Tennessee, if you're trying to adopt through the
government, you're looking at a 3 year wait.  In Illinois, it's worse.  Women in liberal states
would rather murder the baby than give the baby up for adoption.  ("You men just don't
understand what a terrible inconvenience it is.  And the unpaid labor cost."  My sister had
to explain the "unpaid labor cost" to me.)  Because the government creates the incentives
for that behavior.  Humans will always do what is in their best financial interest.  That is
microeconomics.  On the macroeconomic scale, cities don't want babies, as they won't pay
taxes for at least 18 years, 22 after college, 26 after grad school.  And are a huge expense
to educate and such.  Cities want adult tax payers.  Let the suburbs or rural areas take
care of the babies.  Let the working, tax paying, adults migrate to the city.

Remember how the Mirror Visitor was all about various inversions?
Let ↑ mean exponentiation.  Let e be the famous transcendental constant.  Let i be
the first imaginary unit, √(-1).  (Oh yes, there are many imaginary units.)  Let ln()
be the natural logarithm function.  Let two variables next to each other mean
multiplication (the second binary operation in the ring).
Let w = ln(z) be the inversion of z = e↑w.  But, ln(z) is not restricted to the Real number
system, R.  If playing in R, ln(z) is undefined for z < 0.  Why?  Because, the graph of e↑w is
the the graph of ln(z) inverted through the line y = x, or in slope intercept form
y = 1x + 0.  [Consider inversions through the origin.  Consider other inversions.]
But playing in the Complex number system, C, ln(c) is well defined as
c = A e↑(iθ) in polar form, [except for A = 0, because the ln(0) is undefined in the
Reals] where A is the amplitude (distance from the origin to c ), and θ is the angle
of the vector pointing from the origin to c, from the positive x-axis (the positive
Real number line).
ln(c) = ln( A e↑(iθ) ) = ln(A) + ln( e↑(iθ) ).
If A < 0, then add Ï€ to θ modulo(2Ï€) and negate A.
So, we see that A is an element of R and A > 0.
Thus, ln(A) is well defined.
ln( e↑(iθ) ) = iθ, by definition of ln().  Which is well defined.
Hence, ln(c) = ln(A) + iθ, in rectangular form.  Which is well defined.
So ln(c) is defined on the complex plane, except for the origin, (0 + ix).
The measure of any single point in the 2-dimensional plane is zero.
So we're pretty safe.
     For completeness,
e↑c = e↑(a + bi) in rectangular form.
= e↑a * e↑bi.  Let e↑a = A.  Let b = θ.  And we have
e↑c = A e↑iθ in the polar form.
Consider the inversion in other number systems.

Elliot Schneider says to check the units of your solution and to check limiting
cases.
Email from Elliot Schneider --
I’ve told you before about how incredibly useful units are for checking your answer
whenever you solve a physics problem (and even for guessing the solution to a problem
without doing any work).
But there’s also a second key step that you should take after you solve any problem,
which will enable you to catch your own mistakes—and help you develop a deep intuition
for physics in the process.
The trick is to think about limiting cases, and it’s easiest to show you what I mean
with an example.
Say you’re given a problem about somebody holding the string of a yo-yo of
length l and making it whirl around in a circle:

You swing a yo-yo around in a circle with constant speed.  What must the radius of the
circle be?
The question is, supposing the yo-yo is made to move with constant speed v, what's
the radius R of the circle?
Go ahead and give it a try!
After a fair bit of algebra, let’s say you wind up with this expression for the radius R
as a function of the speed v:
What a mess!  I don’t know about you, but when I look at this formula, it doesn’t mean
much of anything to me.  And I sure as heck don’t have any idea if it’s correct or not just
by staring at it.
So what can we do to get some intuition for what’s going on in this formula, and to figure
out if it has a chance of making sense?
The very first thing to do—for any physics problem that you solve—is to check the units.
I’ll let you verify for yourself that they work out okay here.  If they didn’t, then you'd
immediately know you made a mistake somewhere along the way.
The fact that the units work out is a good sign, but it's by no means a guarantee that this
expression is correct.
We can gain more confidence, though, by thinking about some limiting cases, and that’s
the second thing you should do after you solve any physics problem.
Picture yourself holding the string of the yo-yo.  When you’re just letting it hang straight
down at rest, its speed is zero.  And since it’s not moving, the radius of the circle is zero,
too:

That means that when we plug v = 0 into our formula for R, it had better come out to
zero.  And it does, thanks to that factor of v↑2 at the front of the square root.
That’s a good sign that we’re not totally off base.  But don’t get too cocky!
If, say, we had missed the last v↑2 term at the very end of the formula, everything we’ve
checked so far would still have worked out:  the units would be right, and we’d get the
same result for zero v.
     So let’s check another limit.
As you start to shake the end of the string more and more, you can make the yo-yo
move faster and faster.  And the radius of the circle gets bigger and bigger, until finally
the yo-yo is moving so fast that it’s almost level with your hand.
That’s the biggest the circle can possibly get—when R = l takes up the whole length
of the string—and in that limit the speed of the yo-yo is getting arbitrarily large.
Mathematically, that means that as v gets infinitely big, our formula for R should be
approaching l.  If it does, then we can start to feel more confident that this answer actually
makes sense.
This limit is a bit trickier to check, though!
Let's start off by pulling a factor of v² outside the parentheses:

Rewriting the radius formula to take the large v limit.
The reason I did that is that now the term 4g² l² / v↑4 in the middle is getting very tiny
as v gets very large.
You might think that we could just erase that term in the v → ∞ limit.  But that would
leave us with 1 - 1 = 0 inside the parentheses, which would seem to give us R = 0 again!
Physically, that wouldn’t make any sense.  So is our formula wrong?
What saves us is that there’s still a factor of v↑4 at the front of the square root.  So we
actually have something that’s going to zero times something that’s going to infinity.  And
that means we need to be more careful about the limit.
I’ll let you puzzle out that limit for yourself, to check that we do in fact get R → l when
we let v get really big.*  And that's a very good sign that this unintuitive formula really
does make sense.
The take-home lesson is, looking at limiting cases gives us a very powerful way of
checking whether some complicated formula is consistent with your physical intuition
about a problem.
By sending one parameter or another to zero, or infinity, or some other special value,
you can take a hard problem with a complicated answer and turn it into an easier problem
with a simpler answer.
Then your complicated answer had better reduce to the simpler one in that limit,
or else you know something’s gone wrong and you need to try again!
If you make a habit of thinking about limiting cases like this, the fewer mistakes you'll
make and the better your physical intuition will become.
Talk to you soon,
Elliot

The point is that the Normal Distribution is a creature of probability theory,
pure math.  And the Normal Distribution correctly models real world behavior,
physics.
Your cryptosystems are operating in the real world and so are subject to the
laws of physics.  Are you using math that correctly models the real world?
If not, do you know why not, and the extent of the error?  Grant Sanderson gives
the three assumptions of the Central Limit Theorem.  Do you see the assumptions
when using the Central Limit Theorem in the real world?  In particular, the
assumptions on the type of noise you are suffering in your communications channels
and in your computer systems.

Bottom line up front:  Use the details of the statement to determine if the person is lying.
One who is telling the truth actually has had the experience and so will be able to give details.
One who lacks the experience will have to create the details from his similar experiences or
imagination, both of which will lead to his being caught in a lie.  (If the audience / interrogator
is competent enough to catch the discrepancy.)  Or, the liar will be vague, not being able to
give the details.  (Hopefully, the audience / interrogator will catch the vagueness.)
