In case you didn't notice, all small arms (and a lot of larger arms) and ammunition
manufacturing is moving from the Yankee states to the Confederate States. High
tech companies are quietly moving from the high tax states to the low tax states.
(They don't make a big splash because it is very easy for them to move.)
I worked for VeriFone (they made the equipment for retail credit card transactions),
when they started in Mililani Technological Park in Hawaii. They had to move out
of Hawaii (cost of living too high, taxes too high, government regulations too onerous)
and mistakenly ended up in California. After realizing that they had jumped from the
frying pan into the fire, they moved to Florida.
The South shall rise again.

Here are three tips to help ensure you have the most positive
experience in your training courses, no matter who is teaching.
Tip #1: Read the gear list and any provided information.
It is pretty common practice for training organizations to have
posted gear requirements for their courses. Many times, these
are kind reminders while at other times logistical requirements.
It is not important you know the difference, it is important you
have the gear. Not only do you need to have all the appropriate
gear, you need to know how to use said gear. Take the time to
be familiar. Now, if the course you are attending is a "how to"
for said gear that is a different story.
Tip #2: Be a good student.
It is presumed you are interested in the information since you
are taking the time, talent and treasure to attend. Ask yourself
if you are teachable. Or, do you quickly make excuses or
become defensive when critiqued. You may not walk away
with as much information as you did in the beginning, that is
normal. But, if you are closed off to the material or the
delivery then you are not doing yourself any favors. Baring
unsafe practices you should put your best effort in everything
you do. Work at being open minded and give the instructor
the benefit of the doubt they know more than you on the subject.
Tip #3. Be a good classmate.
I see it all the time, class dynamics. Most instructors worth
their salt are already sizing up the student body. Who is prepared,
who has all their gear squared away, who is listening and who
is helping. You may feel above some of the normal chores like
refacing targets or picking up brass, but that only means you put
more of a burden on your classmates. It also means, you
encourage and support your classmates. We all need this type
of interaction, it is crucial to personal growth. It also speaks
highly of your character when you are that one student who
is always helping, supporting or just doing the right thing.

Protective Service. We guarded the Federal buildings. We had to shoot
a qualification course every 6 months. You fail, you're out.
So some companies do have such standards. But ya, it was auditory,
not visual start signals.

I took the Vehicle Tactics course from Joe Shelton, Tyler Van Zant, and Bob Allen
at Royal Range in Nashville, TN last night. Some of the things I learned:
Bullets will go through side windows and door panels easily without deflection.
Much more difficult to penetrate front and rear windshields, and deflection is
expected.
When firing into the car through the front windshield with a horizontal trajectory,
expect the bullet to deflect down if it penetrates. It might glance off and not
penetrate.
When firing out of the car through the front windshield with horizontal trajectory,
expect the bullet to deflect up, if it penetrates. It might not.
Head rests generally have steel plates in them that pistol bullets will not
penetrate.
Modern cars are made with pillars that will support the car and prevent the
roof from caving in, in the event the car flips over. The front two on either side
of the front windshield are the A pillars. The two between the front and rear
seats are the B pillars. The two behind the passenger seats are the C pillars.
Depending on your vehicle, you may have D pillars further back. The pillars
will stop multiple .223 rounds from an AR-15 type rifle. They may appear
thin, but if you stand on the side of the car and move slightly to the side so
you are using both of them, they cover an area equivalent to the plate in the
front of a plate carrier. And since we don't usually wear armor, that's
significant.
Skip shots are effective. You can skip bullets off the ground under a car.
You can skip bullets off the side of concrete walls. You can skip rounds off
the top of car roofs, hoods, and trunks. You can skip rounds off the sides
of cars. (No, really we did it.)
You should clear your seat belt before you need to. If you're driving and
right-handed with the pistol in your right hand, use your left hand by sliding
it under your shoulder strap to release the buckle. That way, you won't get
tangled in the seat belt.
If you're left-handed, with the pistol in your left hand, use your right hand to
release the buckle and carefully move the belt over the left arm without
muzzling yourself. Ya, it takes practice. So practice.
Practice driving in reverse. Yes, you have to practice. Cars are not stable
going in reverse at speed. It's easy to flip them. So practice.
If you haven't learned how to do a J turn correctly and haven't practiced
it to the point of being proficient (not just competent), it would be better to
just drive away in reverse.
If the bad guy is in front of you, hit the accelerator and run him over.
In the eyes of the law, all forms of lethal force are the same. There is no
difference between shooting him and running him over. Your car is much
more effective than your pistol.
There are a lot of people out there who hate you without knowing you.
Don't give them an excuse to vent their anger. Drive properly. Park
correctly. Be courteous. Wave. Don't honk your horn. Don't point guns.
Don't give the middle finger.
If you already have your pistol in your hand, and you must move,
maintain your grip and stick your thumb in your holster to keep your
pistol pointed down and in position while you move.
The good ventilation in the indoor range kept the air clear. But in a
not so well ventilated garage or outdoors when the air is still, you can
expect your gun smoke to obscure your vision.
Use cover, correctly. You're exposing much more of yourself than
you need to. (No, really, you are.) Bad habits from competition shooting.
Never attempt the same shot from the same position around cover.
The enemy ain't stupid.
Stay back away from cover. Don't crowd cover. Spalling!
If you shoot over the top of the hood, roof, or trunk. Be aware that
any bullet that impacts in front of your will bounce into you.
If you're shooting so fast that you're missing, slow down. You can't
miss. If you do, you will be hitting innocent bystanders. As good guys,
we never miss. This means you will have to shoot slowly and carefully.
This means sometimes you won't take the shot. Be patient. Move.
Try again.
Practice shooting more than 2 rounds at the target. Getting in the
habit of shooting two rounds into each target is WRONG! We viewed
several videos in which the bad guy got shot many times and still
continued the attack. So you must continue shooting the threat
until the attack stops. The average number of shots fired in a lethal
force incident is low because in the vast majority of cases, no shots
are fired. But in cases where shots are fired, lots of shots are fired.
Just because the bad guy goes down, does not mean he is out of the
fight. The instructor said to keep shooting until he stops wiggling.
A technique for moving with your pistol in your hand while
leaving your support side hand free for other things - hook your
firing side thumb in your holster. So now your pistol is pointing
down as it would be when holstered. But it's not swinging around.
NOT appropriate for appendix carry.

I took a class from Ralph Mroz in which he taught us how to shoot the bad guy
who is entangled with the good guy. You must lock up with the good guy and
then contact shoot the bad guy to ensure you don't hit the good guy (or yourself).
Extremely difficult in training. I couldn't imagine how difficult it would be in real
combat.
I attempted to teach Ralph's technique in a class at the Palmetto Gun Club in
South Carolina. We had to stop. Someone was going to get hurt. We really
needed Red Man suits (heavily padded suits) to conduct the training. One Red
Man suit is prohibitively expensive. Three suits would have been out of the
question. And wearing the suit changes everything. So I guess you have to
visualize. Visualization works.

Hopefully, this coming September I will be able to take Chuck Haggard's
Low Light class. I've been trying for the past two years.

Also, must be careful about what is preventing the coat from moving up
with your holster and pistol. When your holster is attached to your belt,
the belt loops on your pants prevent the holster from moving up when you
pull your pistol up. What's holding the coat down when you pull your
pocket pistol up?
As Claude says, it's good to have the answer before the test.

"A Practical Variation Of The Tactical Reload"

I listened to the after action report of a Davidson County Sheriff's Office incident.
A young lady was arrested by two deputies serving an arrest warrant. The lady was
very skinny. So the deputies handcuffed her upper arms above the elbows.
[In Marine Corps Military Police training, we were taught to overlap the wrists and
then to put a single handcuff around both wrists.] The lady was able to escape the
handcuffs. She used the open hand cuff to gouge the eye of one of the deputies.
In the ensuing fight the other deputy kicked the lady in the crotch which would have
had a certain effect for a male assailant. In this case however, the kick cracked the
lady's pelvis. Death ensued. No disciplinary action.
The point being, just because you don't think you are using lethal force doesn't
mean it won't kill the subject of your force. I had never heard of a person dying
from a kick to the crotch, but it happened.
Helpful hint for red dot sights. Though I disagree with the idea of altering
your grip.

of issues with very hard primer cups in some of their handgun rounds."
Yes, I have found the primers of their pistol ammunition (and European
ammo in general) to be much harder / thicker than American made ammo.
That's why the Croatian made HS2000 (Springfield Armory XD) pistols
will drive a pencil into the ceiling, while American made pistols will barely
pop the pencil out of the barrel when fired up with the eraser end against
the firing pin. The European pistol manufacturers all seem to take into
account the harder primers of European ammunition. That's why I carry
the SA XD. I know the striker will hit the primer hard enough to detonate
any ammunition that I may be using. (Because you never know when you
might find yourself in a fire fight in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan using ammo
manufactured in Pakistan. Consider how blessed you are that the ammo
fit your pistol. Can't complain about how hard the primers are.)

Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) released a Joint Intelligence Bulletin (JIB).
(U) Scope
(U//FOUO) This Joint Intelligence Bulletin (JIB) warns law enforcement,
first responder, emergency management, and private sector partners of
possible threats to public gatherings throughout the winter, which likely
are amplified by ongoing tensions related to the conflict between Israel
and Hamas. Possible threats will likely emanate from lone offenders,
including domestic violent extremists (DVEs), homegrown violent
extremists (HVEs), and hate crime actors. Hate crime investigations,
particularly of incidents with an anti-Jewish bias were increasing before
the 7 October attack in Israel and have spiked since the start of the conflict.
DHS, FBI, and NCTC note that previous attacks in the United States have
occurred with little or no warning. This JIB is provided to assist federal,
state, local, tribal, and territorial counterterrorism and law enforcement
officials and private sector security partners in effectively deterring,
preventing, preempting, or responding to extremist violence in the United States.
(U//FOUO) Elevated Threat of Violence Targeting Public Gatherings
(U//FOUO) DHS, FBI, and NCTC assess that ongoing tensions related to the
conflict between Israel and Hamas likely heighten the threat of lone offender
violence targeting large public gatherings throughout the winter, including
holiday-related, faith-based, New Year’s Eve, and First Amendment-protected
events related to the conflict. These targets likely remain attractive to lone
offenders inspired by a range of ideologies due to the accessibility and
symbolic nature of the gatherings.
(U//FOUO) Since the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October, various foreign
terrorist media organizations have called for lone offender attacks in the
United States. Throughout the winter, foreign terrorist media will likely
continue to frame the conflict between Israel and Hamas as part of a wider
anti-Muslim religious war. As in previous years, particularly leading up to
religious holidays, foreign terrorist media may increase calls for violence
against Jewish or Christian gatherings.
(U//FOUO) Racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists (RMVEs)
driven by a belief in the superiority of the white race pose the most probable
lethal DVE threat to faith-based gatherings. Since the start of the Israel-Hamas
conflict, some online users have increased calls for violence on social media
platforms, celebrating attacks on the Jewish community, expressing support
for Hamas, and stating that attacks could serve as an inspiration for RMVEs
in the West, according to a nongovernmental organization that tracks violent
extremism online.
(U//FOUO) HVEs or DVEs may seek to disrupt or escalate violence at large
gatherings, high-profile events, or symbolic or religious locations throughout
the winter. Such gatherings could become a convenient target for those inspired
to commit violence against Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and Arab communities.
These venues may also present opportunities for clashes with ideological
opponents. Individuals have made online threats of violence against protests
in response to the ongoing conflict, according to a nongovernmental
organization that tracks violent extremism online, indicating an increased
threat of violence toward otherwise first amendment-protected events.
(U//FOUO) Hate crime perpetrators have also played a role in violence and
threats of violence at public gatherings. The FBI has seen a spike in reporting
on potential hate crimes or other criminal violations from the public, local
law enforcement partners, and other private or public sector partners since
7 October. Most notably, hate crime perpetrators have targeted public
protests, free speech activities at higher educational institutions, and houses
of worship.
(U//FOUO) Potential Attackers Will Probably Rely on Simple Weapons
(U//FOUO) Lone offenders seeking to attack public gatherings will probably
rely on simple weapons to target easily accessible events. Historically,
lone offenders have used simple, easy-to acquire weapons, like firearms,
knives, and vehicles to target public gatherings, which have fewer observable
indicators of potential violence. Threat actors could also leverage nonviolent
tactics, including hoax bomb and active shooter threats, to disrupt and delay
operations of targeted facilities or gatherings.
(U//FOUO) Lone offenders using simple weapons remain a concern due to
their ability to avoid detection and to inflict significant casualties with little
expertise, access, or training. Threat actors probably view holiday gatherings
and symbolic religious events as attractive targets due to publicized meeting
times and locations, the open nature of participation, and varying levels of
security. Religious and holiday gatherings may also be held in nontraditional
houses of worship, such as movie theaters, office buildings, schools, and in
homes, which may not have a large security presence.
(U//FOUO) Since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict, we have observed
an increase in hoax bomb and active shooter threats targeting synagogues
across the United States, likely intended to disrupt services and intimidate
congregants. In some instances, hoax threats and other public safety
concerns have spurred cancellations of gatherings linked to Jewish, Christian,
and Muslim events, individuals, or organizations.
(U) Outlook
(U//FOUO) Calls for violence will probably increase in the days leading
up to the holidays and before other notable events this winter. Factors that
could further exacerbate the threat of violence include escalations in the
conflict between Israel and Hamas and notable instances of violence in the
Homeland inspiring copycat or retaliatory attacks.
(U//FOUO) DHS, FBI, and NCTC urge state and local authorities,
as well as private sector security partners, to promptly report suspicious
activities potentially related to violent extremist activity, including indications
of possible online radicalization to violence and mobilization for attacks.
DHS, FBI, and NCTC direct public safety partners to the unclassified booklet
“US Violent Extremist Mobilization Indicators 2021 Edition,” which includes
additional possible indicators of mobilization to violence. These indicators
apply to all ideologically motivated, US-based violent extremists.
