----- Mindset (figuring out the correct way to think) -----

"We don’t decide what is necessary to survive a lethal force encounter initiated
by someone else.  That person decides what’s necessary for us to survive."
– William Aprill

If you look at someone bigger, faster, and stronger and immediately think,
'I'm at a disadvantage',
I have news for you:  you are.
But that's only because you just put yourself there for no reason.
The truth is that anyone can do debilitating violence to anyone else.
Your size, your speed, your strength, your gender --
all the factors that untrained people think make
the difference when it comes to violence --
all matter far less than your mindset and your intent.
-- Tim Larkin

-- Rear Admiral Joseph Kernan, USN

“Willingness” is a state of mind.  Readiness is a statement of fact!”
-- David M Shoup, USMC Commandant, 1960-1963

In order to stop the bad guy before the event turns into a mass murder,
you must stop the bad guy within 30 seconds of the start of the attack.
That requires that you be Present, Armed, and Willing.
-- Ed Monk (paraphrased)

"You need to have the capacity for danger.  You need to be ‘dangerous’.
Yet, you need to learn how to not use it except when necessary.  And, that is not
the same thing as being harmless.  . . .  There's nothing virtuous about harmlessness.
It just means you’re ineffectual and useless."
-- Jordan Peterson

----- Safety -----  (How to prevent the bad thing from happening in the first place.
How to avoid shooting yourself, friendlies, and innocent bystanders.)

Jeff Cooper's Rules of Gun Safety
RULE I:  ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED.
RULE II:  NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER
ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY.
RULE III:  KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER [in the register position]
UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET.
RULE IV:  BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET.

"Several states, typically under their game codes, ban loaded long guns inside
vehicles, ostensibly to keep poachers from shooting from vehicles.  Way back when
I took a hunter-education course, we were taught not to chamber a round until
ready to take a shot.  That instruction emphasized empty chamber not only in
vehicles but in traversing fences and lifting guns into tree stands."
-- Stephen P. Wenger, http://spw-duf.info

"If violent crime is to be curbed, it is only the intended victim who can do it.
The felon does not fear the police, and he fears neither judge nor jury.  Therefore
what he must fear is his victim."
-- Col. Jeff Cooper

The Metro Nashville Police Department strongly encourages Nashvillians to
lock their automobile doors, secure any valuables---especially guns, and
REMOVE THE KEYS.  Please do not leave vehicles running while unattended.
Vehicles left running to warm up on cold mornings are an easy target for car thieves.
Less than a month into the new year, 81 guns have been stolen from vehicles in
Nashville. The total number of guns stolen this year in Davidson County is 94,
which means that 86% of guns stolen so far in 2023 have been taken from
automobiles.
Last year, 1,378 guns were stolen from vehicles in Nashville. More than 70%
of ALL guns reported stolen in 2022 (1,952) were taken from vehicles.  This is an
increase from 2021 when 1,303 guns were stolen from vehicles.  Going hand in
hand with vehicle burglaries is vehicle theft.  A review of last week’s stolen vehicle
reports in Nashville shows that 52% of the automobiles taken (26 of 50) were easy
targets because the keys were left inside or made available to thieves.  Last year,
74% of the automobiles taken (2,687 of 3,622) were easy targets because the
keys were left inside or made available to thieves.  Just like guns taken from
vehicles, these stolen vehicles are also routinely involved in criminal activities,
including carjackings and robberies.

Excerpt:
"There are no advanced techniques.  There are fundamentals honed to
perfection through conscious effort.  Then there is the application of those
fundamentals against ever increasing challenges.  The mechanics don’t change,
our understanding grows so we’re able to apply the technique against higher
and higher levels of resistance.  As we advance we face greater resistance and
better opponents which causes our understanding of the hows, when’s and
why’s to advance.  The mechanics remain the same.  We become advanced."

so that in an emergency, you can make that big withdrawal.

that moment finds them unprepared or unqualified for that
which could have been their finest hour."

William Hayes finds his red dot by pushing his pistol to the target with muzzle
high, and then bringing the muzzle down onto the target / red dot down into the
center of the window.  He never has to search for it, because he knows where it is,
even if he can't see it in the window.  He knows that it is above the window and
that lowering the muzzle will bring the red dot into the window.
He also uses a light gathering front sight attached to the front of the slide to
aid in aligning his pistol to the target.  So he is never searching for his red dot.

     I attended Ed Monk's classes:
"A School-Focused Study of the Active Shooter Threat:
Planning & Training to Minimize Victims"
"Critical Law Enforcement Lessons -
Learned from Active Shooter Attacks"
"A Study of the Active Shooter Threat &
How We Can Minimize Victims"
at the Glock Store in Nashville, TN.
     Things that I learned:
During a mass murder event, a victim is killed every 10 seconds on average.
The first minutes are at a higher rate.  But it averages out to one death every 10
seconds.  So calling 911 and waiting for the police to stop the attack results in
around 40 deaths; if the call to 911 occurs immediately after the first shot is fired,
the dispatcher understands the panicked caller, the dispatcher immediately
transmits the radio call, the police travel to the scene, the police figure out where
the bad guy is, the police aggressively attack the bad guy, and win the gunfight.
This all takes 6 to 7 minutes in a best case scenario.  That's 36 to 42 deaths in a
best case scenario.
If you want fewer deaths, you have to stop the bad guy sooner.  This requires
that the people at the scene who saw and heard the initial attack engage the bad
guy with sufficient force to stop him.  This does not mean they have to kill the
bad guy.  Simply confronting the bad guy will cause him to commit suicide,
surrender, or run away.  Which means that the killing of innocent persons has
stopped.  The only exception would be Jihadists, who will fight until killed.
For such is the command of Allah as spoken by Mohammad, peace be upon him.
---
Bad guys choose to attack in gun-free-zones.  Because their goal is to kill lots
of people so that they will be famous.  (Get the highest score in the video game.)
They know that in any gun-friendly location, they will be killed before they can
achieve their goal.
---
Church attacks start in the parking lot.  So the church security team must have
persons in the parking lot to interdict the bad guy.
---
     Your priority skills should be:
1.  Safe gun handling.
2.  Accuracy (what is your 100% distance and time?)  What is your max distance?
You must know to a certainty at what distance you can guarantee hits on target.
You must move into this distance before attempting a shot.  Because innocent
bystanders will be all over the place.  There are no misses.  There are only
unintended hits.  Which damage property, injure innocent bystanders (or friendlies),
and may kill them.
3.  Accurate shooting while moving.
4.  Building search techniques.
Please notice that "Fast draw"  is nowhere on this list.
---
You might be out gunned, but you shouldn't be out skilled.
---
When you aggress, close with, and engage, good things happen.
---
It took 4 professional cops 30 hits to stop the bad guy in Dayton, OH.
So expect to shoot the bad guy many times in order to stop the attack.
(One shot stops only happen in the movies.)
----
You must be present.  You must be armed.  You must be willing.
---
Don't be delayed by casualties.  You can't save lives faster than the bad guy
can take lives.  You do the most good by stopping the bad guy as soon as possible.
---
If you are threatened and scared, hide behind your front sight and press your
problem away.  If the bad guy is still there, press again.  If the bad guy is still there,
press again.  If the bad guy is still there, press again.  . . .
---
Lock downs are criminal stupidity.  Locking persons in a room is the most
efficient way for the bad guy to kill lots of persons.  Walls will not stop bullets.
Doors will not stop bullets.
---
Know what reloads and malfunctions look like.  Teach other what reloads and
malfunctions look like.  So persons can see the opportunity for counter attack or
escape.
---
Armed citizens have never shot the wrong person.  Cops have.  Cops have
shot other cops.  Cops have shot innocent bystanders.
---
"Run, Hide, Fight" is wrong, and directly responsible for many deaths.  A better
paradigm is "Fight, Flee, Barricade".  Vicious ruthless counter attack is by far the
best response, because it has the highest probability of success and historically
the lowest casualty rate.  Fleeing is good, as long as everyone does not flee to an
assembly point, because that just creates another mass of people to be targeted.
If you barricade, you must prepare a welcoming party for the bad guy.
---
Attempting to de-escalate or "talk him down" is an act of criminal stupidity
and will only get you killed.
---
Don't harden targets.  The bad guy is already inside.  Hardening just makes
it harder for the good guys to get in and stop the bad guy.
Hardening a church will effectively make the church unwelcoming to those
the church wishes to attract.
---
In the context of a mass murder events -
An armed citizen has never shot the wrong person (because the armed citizen
was there from the beginning of the incident and so knows who is who and what
is going on).  The police do all the time.
An armed citizen has never shot innocent bystanders or friendlies (because
the armed citizen was there from the beginning of the incident and so knows
who is who and what is going on).  The police do.
The is only one incident of an armed citizen, who shot the bad guy, mistakenly
getting shot by the police.  (That was because the an armed citizen picked up
the bad guys rifle after shooting the bad guy, making himself fit the description
of the bad guy.)  This doesn't usually happen because the incident is usually over
several minutes before the police arrive.  In this case the bad guy had made a
false 911 call to get police to come, in order to ambush and kill police officers.
So, there were police converging on the scene before the shooting started.
The bad guy was only able to kill one police officer before the armed citizen
shot and killed the bad guy.
If the armed citizen is close enough to see or hear the start of the incident,
it is effective and safe for the armed citizen to shoot the bad guy.  This action
minimizes the number of casualties.  The legal liability is minimal.

a result."
[Tom Givens understands this, that's why in his Instructor Development

[In the context of women (in particular) believing that they cannot
do something that they can do.]
“Believe it or not, there is a name for this phenomenon where
a person learns that they "cannot" do something that they are
perfectly capable of doing.  It is called "learned helplessness".
Unfortunately, it is something that way too many people -- usually,
thought not necessarily exclusively, men -- teach in this industry,
especially to women.”
---
It is not just in the firearms / self-defense industry.  It is a cultural
problem.  Parents teach their daughters to behave a certain way.
Society (especially peers) teach girls to behave in a certain way.
This is what makes teaching self-defense to women so difficult.
That is why when I teach, I never do anything for the student.  I let
them struggle.  I never let the husband / father / boyfriend do anything
for the lady.  I explain to them that if you do it for her, you are preventing
her from learning.  Only by doing will she learn how to do it.
When teaching your daughter self-defense, let her do it.  Teach
her the use of tools.  Criminal predators are young, strong, fast, and
ruthless.  Only the use of tools allows the bunnies to defend themselves
from the pack of hyenas.

From an email from Gabe Suarez --
ASTIGMATISM AND DOT SIGHTED PISTOLS
From Patreon Joseph:  "Mr. Suarez do you have any suggestions for those of us
with astigmatism?  A red dot looks more like a ven diagram / starburst then a
clean dot for me.  Any alternatives that might be helpful?"
---
It isn’t commonly known but I have a number of eye hereditary conditions,
one of which is astigmatism.  In my early years teaching, I am sure you recall
seeing me with glasses.  I went to great lengths to find the best shooting glasses
possible and set them up as daily wear prescription glasses.  One day, the
degradation was such that the eye doc suggested Tri-focals!
My response was very simple, “Hell No!” I found the best eye surgeon in AZ
at the time (2005) and had Lasik done on both eyes.  The only way to describe
the results is “Life Changing”.  I still have a slight bit of astigmatism but its minor
compared to the past.
Many people have it and simply figure out ways around it.  But it bears
discussing now.  And while 2005 is approximately five years before we designed
the first Red Dot Slide, I was still using dots on all my rifles.
In a simplified description, astigmatism causes blurry vision.  People with
astigmatism will see the dot blurry, smeared, like a starburst or otherwise
distorted.  Often, these people think a dot has no use for them, but that is not
the case.
In fact, the front sight on the pistol will be difficult to focus on for most
of those people, and the dot, be it blurry, starburst, or what have you, will
still be smaller in size that the front sight, allowing them to reap the benefits
of the dot pistol regardless of their eyes.  A standard width steel front sight is
approximately 12 MOA.  A dot will be anywhere from half to a quarter of
that size, thus indexing it on the desired target, even if blurry or starbursted,
will still provide greater potential for accuracy.
It is simply a matter of learning the visual dexterity, focal shifting and
accepting of what you are seeing as sufficient for the shot to be taken.
Are there things that can be done to mitigate the astigmatism issues?  Absolutely.
1). Get Your Eyes Fixed - Before you invest in that new custom pistol,
or that motorcycle, get your eyes fixed.  No, it is not cheap but then again,
nothing good in life is.  And if the first eye doc says you are not a candidate,
go see another eye doc.  He might be correct, but in my experience, doctor
shopping should always be done as not all of them are of the same perspective
on human optimization.
2). Choose The Right Dot - The wavelength of a green dot is more accessible
to eyes with astigmatism.  When we began working with the green Holosuns,
I know it was easier and less fatiguing for my eyes, and many students reported
the same thing.  Some eyes will prefer a smaller dot – 2 MOA for example,
while others will benefit from a larger 6 MOA dot.  As well the glass clarity
is a big factor.
If you come to one of my Optics Pistol Classes I bring out a variety of
optics and you will get a chance to try them out.  You can even run the class
with a loaner pistol if you wish.
3). Learn To Accept What You See – Remember that the front sight is about
12 MOA.  Even the bigger 6 MOA dot from Trijicon is half that size.  As long
as you can center that dot on the desired target spot you wish to hit, you will
benefit from having that dot on board.  But it is a matter of training the eyes
to see what they need to see and then training the mind to accept that it is
sufficient for the problem at hand.
I am interested to hear what others with less than perfect eyes have done
to mitigate or overcome these issues.  info@suareztactics.com

"70% of students who had the perfect SAT scores
were rejected in Stanford University" with Victor Hanson
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOgQgulyc08
This is why cryptography and cryptanalysis in the U.S. government agencies suck.
They are still recruiting from the Ivy League, Stanford, U.C. Berkley, and those of
a similar ilk.  While the graduates may be woke and politically correct, they can't
solve a differential equation to save their life.  I know because I have had to
interview many in my capacity as a leader of the software engineering staff
in various Lockheed Martin companies.
I had to get a max. math score and near perfect verbal score on the SAT,
4 or 5's on the AP (Advanced Placement) exams, Letter in riflery, and participate
in fencing to get into Columbia in 1977.  Even back then, Orientals were
discriminated against to prevent Orientals from occupying 70% of the class
based on academic merit.  Dean Parker (Dean of Students) told me.
Dean Vreeland (Dean of Academics), who was my mechanical drawing teacher,
confirmed.  "You Orientals are much worse than the Jews ever were."
[In the context of taking slots in the class based on academic merit.]
Which is something, because Columbia University is in the upper west side of
Manhattan.  The Jews who live in New York all apply to Columbia.  In those
days, Columbia would shut down on all Jewish holidays because so many
students and faculty wouldn't show up for classes.
Why are the Orientals such a problem?  It's the Confucian ethic.  I didn't get
to go to sleep until I finished my homework and my mother or father had
reviewed it as satisfactory (which means they stayed up late with me).  My
classmates, many of whom never finished their homework, would say things like,
"My parents think it's important for my health for me to go to bed at 8:00 PM
every night."  I thought that was bizarre and lazy.
For selection into Signals Intelligence, I had to max out the ASVAB (Armed
Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) in particular the GT (General Technical)
score.

Do you see where this is leading?

A neighbor in my apartment complex was complaining to me about how the
realty company that owns our apartment complex was raising the rents.  I explained
to her that they were doing it to stay ahead of what the welfare recipients could
afford.  That's the only legal way they can keep the welfare recipients out.
Statistically speaking, all the crime, drug use, drug dealing, vandalism, theft, etc.
is due to the multi-generational welfare recipients.  Everyone knows it.  It's just
politically incorrect or racists to say it.  If they didn't raise the rents, we would
have a lot of home invasions in our apartment complex.
"The number one way to avoid a home invasion is to not be a drug dealer."

My corporation transferred me into another company (wholly owned subsidiary)
so I'm going through the application process.  [Lockheed Martin (a huge corporation)
would do the same thing.  As a software engineer, you're just an expendable asset
to be hired when a project starts and laid off when the project ends.]
I did sit ups for 2 minutes (they refused to tell me what the acceptable
number was), push ups for 2 minutes (they refused to tell me what the acceptable
number was), stepping up and down an 18 inch step at the rate of a metronome
set to 72 beats per minute for 3 minutes, and then set to 92 beats per minute for
3 minutes, and some other weight lifting exercises.  They calculated and told me
that if my heart rate hit 160 per minute, I would be disqualified.  There was an
interesting thing at the end that I had never encountered before.
Before the start of the physical tests, they took my vitals.  My resting pulse
rate was 52 beats per minute.  They thought that was low.  I explained to them
that it was low because I used to run 3 miles day and still exercise regularly.
They seemed to accept that explanation.  So at the end of the physical tests, they
sat me down and and told me that they were timing how long it took my pulse
rate to return to my resting pulse rate (52 beats per minute).  If it took too long,
I would be disqualified.  So I went into my breathing exercises, slow inhale on
a 4 count, hold for a 4 count, slow exhale on a 4 count, hold for a 4 count, and
repeat.  Sure enough my pulse rate dropped to 52 in a minute or two.  The
physical therapist says, you know all the tricks.  I said, ya, I've been trained.
As I'm leaving, one of the nurses says, we know your ID is fake.  You spooks
are terrible.
     I say, no it's not.
She says, you can't be 64 years old, not with the vitals and scores you got.
I take that as a complement and walk out.  It must be my haircut.

training for your daughter?

a close call or the sender had the foresight to prepare the student to avoid such.
I outreach in my church and social circles to try to get little girls to attend
my classes, so as to change their body language, gait, and behaviors, so as to
make them less inviting targets.  Because criminal predators look for easy targets.
But, the vast majority of persons in our affluent society don't understand such,
because they never encounter criminal predators.  Because they live in gated
communities and drive from point to point without interacting with the people
in-between.  And they have never worked in a county hospital emergency room.
I say to the little girls --
If your gait, body language, and behaviors make you enticing for the criminal
predator, it is because you lack confidence.  You will build confidence with
training and practice.  Training and practice will change your personality, body
language, gait, and behaviors.  Confidence, which cannot be bluffed, will be
obvious to the criminal predator, who is, generally speaking, very skilled at
determining such.  Otherwise, he would make the mistake of selecting victims
who would kill him, and then he wouldn't be around.
Yes, you could work on your gait, body language, and such directly.  But that
would be as going to a finishing school.  Treating the symptom, not the cause.
The confidence which comes with the comfort of skill at arms will cause the
criminal predator to deselect you.  The information will leak out and be observed
by the criminal predator.  Thus, avoiding the attack in the first place.  Win!
Just as in golf, you train so as to minimize the number of strokes you take in
a tournament, so in self-defense, you train so that you never need to use the
skills that you learned in training.  WIN!

From Metro Nashville West Precinct --
In the first 17 days of the new year, 57 guns have been stolen from vehicles in
Nashville.  The total number of guns stolen this year in Davidson County is 67,
which means that 85% of guns stolen so far in 2023 have been taken from
automobiles.
Last year, 1,378 guns were stolen from vehicles in Nashville.  More than 70% of
ALL guns reported stolen in 2022 (1,952) were taken from vehicles.  This is an
increase from 2021 when 1,303 guns were stolen from vehicles.
Going hand in hand with vehicle burglaries is vehicle theft.  A review of the first
week of 2023 shows that 55% of vehicles stolen (33 of 60) were taken with keys.
Last year, 74% of the automobiles taken (2,687 of 3,622) were easy targets
because the keys were left inside or made available to thieves.
Just like guns taken from vehicles, these stolen vehicles are also routinely
involved in criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies.

     "Take small steps."
"I showed my mad Ninja skills by running away."

Why does God allow suffering?
Because suffering is the only way some people learn.  The vast majority of
people in the U.S. think that bad things only happen to other people.  They
think that bad things will never happen to them.  Every night there are dozens of
women in the 5 story parking lot of my hospital in their cars playing on their
smart phones.  Extremely dangerous behavior.  The police tell them to leave.
We security officers tell them to leave.  They tell us things like, "I've been doing
this for years.  I'm fine."  No, they are not fine.  They are stupid / ignorant / delusional.
Tim Larkin says 70% of the people in his classes are there because they
have suffered a traumatic incident.  Most of the ladies in my classes are there
because they were sent by loved ones, because they suffered a traumatic incident
or their loved ones wish for them to avoid the traumatic incident.
Much suffering can be avoided with training and practice.  It will change the
person's behavior, body language, gait, etc.  This will cause the criminal predator
to deselect the person and move onto easier prey.
Want to avoid getting attacked?  Get training, and practice.  This will prevent
the attack in the first place.
"What doesn't kill me makes me stronger."  FALSE!
The murderer will kill you.  The rapist / assaulter / armed robber will leave you
crippled / disabled.  You will not be stronger.  You will be much weaker, or a
vegetable, or dead.  So you have to get the training and practice NOW,
before the attack.

"Neither example [training in a class or shooting a match] reaches the stress
level connected to trying to function when someone is trying to hurt you."
[Have you ever seen a competitor at a match piss or shit on themselves?  I've seen
it in combat.  Also, getting erections and ejaculating. -- Jon Low]
". . . first, we accept the fact that we will lose our fine motor skills in the stress
of a gunfight.  Second, we examine the various functions that allow us to reload
and/or just keep our gun running.  We find ways to use our entire hand in these
tasks wherever possible.  And, most importantly, we incorporate the use of those
gross motor skills into our everyday practice sessions.
Study the loss of fine motor skills, find ways to work around them, and
practice.  You won’t be sorry."

Why practice?
"To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment

"Back to Basics: Skill Development and Practice"
An Interview with Karl Rehn
https://armedcitizensnetwork.org/skill-development-and-practice
Excerpt:
Rehn: They [branching opportunities] only exist if your brain is free enough
to pay attention to what is happening and not fixated on the mechanical skill of
drawing the gun.  The vast majority of people have to think about the steps to
draw the gun.
Rehn: Force Science (https://www.forcescience.com) has done a lot of
interesting studies on predicting change.  At the top level, the people who are
really good at making use of force decisions are very good at predicting what is
going to happen next, even to the point that they anticipate what the person is
going to do before the person does it because they are reading their pre-fight
body language.  You can’t do that if your mind is focused on the mechanical
skills of just simply getting the gun and aiming the gun.
Sometimes the problem is gear.  If you’re insistent that you’re going to carry
your five-shot revolver, I might say, “Try this Glock 48, or the Sig 365 .380.”
Maybe you say, “No, I will only carry a 9 mm,” and then I have to say,
“You only have 50 pounds of grip strength in your hands, let’s try this .380.
Here is what you can do with that versus what you can do with your snub-nosed
revolver with its nub sites and its 12-pound trigger pull.  Look how much more
capability you have!”
Rehn: What about dry fire?  The point that people miss is that there is no
benefit to driving to the range and putting ammo in your gun if you can’t meet
the standards in dry practice. You should treat going to the range as the test.
You do your dry fire as your homework.  Annette Evans, Ben Stoeger and
Steve Anderson are the big pioneers of the whole idea that you practice the
things you want to improve in dry fire at home until you can do them.
Then you go to the range, and you verify with live ammo that you can do them.

Hat tip to Mark at Practical Eschatology,
https://practicaleschatology.blogspot.com/2023/01/covering-fire-for-self-defense.html
As Mark points out in his article, "covering fire" / "suppressive fire" is executed by
military units using large volumes of machinegun fire, as Mark's picture shows a
minigun.  Pistols are incapable of providing suppressive fire.  Because they lack
the volume of fire necessary to achieve the desired effect (forcing the enemy to
take cover).
Mr. Evans is wrong.  There is no acceptable use of undirected fire in a civilian
self-defense scenario.  Every undirected bullet is destroying property, injuring
innocent bystanders, maybe killing them.  Murphy's Law guarantees it.
You are not the good guy if you are using undirected fire.  Only bad guys use
undirected fire, because they don't care who they hit.

"History of "Shoot To Reset" - Stupid Shit I Heard This Week Vol. 3"
by Dave Spaulding
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPA3N9UTiiU

Some instructors teach, as the first step in the presentation,
Step to the side and yell "STOP!".  Because, moving reduces the probability of you
getting hit by about 40%. (Citation – Police Officer’s Safety Association lecture)
Yelling, STOP! attracts witnesses, which you want, and the bad guy doesn’t want.
If you don't practice yelling, “STOP”, who knows what derogatory nonsense may
come out of your mouth during a high stress situation.  (Remember how the Bible
tells us to be careful of our tongues.)
I think this is wrong because:
It complicates the presentation.  You must keep things simple, especially in high
stress situations, as combat.
Talking is a high order intellectual activity.  Humans cannot talk and shoot at the
same time.  So, shut up, observe, and think.  As a civilian, if you have gone to your
gun, you are far beyond verbal judo.  Your voice will betray your fear, which will
embolden your enemy.
It's hard to hit your target when you're moving.  Better to stay still, focus on the
front sight, and smoothly press the trigger for a surprise break.  To ensure your hit.
Stepping to the side assumes that the enemy is aiming at you (to avoid hitting
innocent bystanders).  This is a false assumption.  Thinking that criminals think
the way you think is a fatal mistake.  They will be spraying bullets in your general
direction.  So, it doesn't matter if you are here or there.  It doesn't change the
probability of you getting hit, because you are not dodging aimed fire.  This is not
infantry combat.  (If you are fighting trained operators, that's a different situation.
In that case moving makes sense.  The Zetas, Mexican drug cartel, were founded
by former Mexican Special Forces and they continue to recruit from their former
units.  The Wagner group recruits from former Warsaw Pact Special Forces.
Blackwater recruited from former NATO Special Forces.  Executive Action
recruited from South African and Rhodesian Special Forces.)

A $50,000 defense is entirely different from a $150,000 defense.  Giles had
no expert witnesses testifying for her, no private investigators digging up evidence
for her (If you think the police will give the defense exculpatory evidence, you're
a damn fool.), no subject matter experts (like Andrew Branca) assisting her attorney,
etc.  If you have money, you can hire co-counsel and overwhelm the prosecution
with motions that they won't have time or man-power to respond to.  In which
case the court / judge will probably grant your motions, because the court clerks
haven't had time to read and study them either.  Since, you have a Constitutional
right to a speedy trial, a delay may mean the judge is forced to dismiss the charges
with prejudice (charges cannot be re-filed).  There are all kinds of legal things
you can do with money to win a case or have the charges dismissed or restructure
the jury.  You could have your private investigators research the background of
the jurors.  Find evidence that they have bias against your client.  Move that the
juror be excused and replaced.  If your motion is denied, you have grounds for
an appeal.  Will this influence the vote of that juror?  Except in Florida, you only
need to get the vote of one juror to hang the jury.  A hung jury is not a conviction.
Let's see who runs out of money first.  Prosecutors have finite budgets and a lot of
other cases to try.  And they are very self conscious.  If they can't get a conviction,
they look very bad.  Why did they bring the case to trial in the first place?
Oh, the games you can play with money.
Do you remember Bill Cosby?  He's a free man.  Hung jury.  Conviction.  Over
turned on appeal.  Oh, the things you can do with money.
Do you have money?  Do you have a self-defense insurance policy?  (Other than
USCCA, of course.)  I have two:  U.S. Law Shield and Firearms Legal Protection.
I work private security.  Only U.S. Law Shield will cover private security on duty.

But, probably not, because things have changed in the intervening time.

front sight during combat ensures hits.  At least that has been my experience.

it is unlikely they had more than a Familiarization Fire with the service pistol
of the time and perhaps not even that."
[In the Marine Corps, every Marine is a rifleman (theoretically) and so every
Marine learns how to shoot the rifle and shoots the rifle every year (one week
of dry fire, one week of live fire).  Every Marine is allotted one live hand-grenade
per year.  But a lot of units never throw their grenades.  I was in 1st Radio Battalion
for 4 years and never threw a grenade.  In the other branches of service, some
service members never fire.  Going to the range takes time and logistical support.
The commander has to want to do it.  Very few do. -- Jon Low]
[The picture in the article shows a U.S. Army soldier shooting a 9mm Beretta
which was the issued pistol in the U.S. Armed Forces from about 1985 to whenever
the unit received the Sig pistol that is the present standard.  He is holding the pistol
in close to his eye because the rear sight notch is too narrow, so he can't get light
on both sides of the front sight.  His dark glasses don't help either.  The rear sight
needs to be machined out by at least 2 hundredths of an inch (10 thousandths on
each side).  But the armorers won't do it.  Same problem with the Sigs.  Stupidity

it's abuse of corpse.  Even if you did it accidentally?  Even if you did it not knowing

Why did you shoot him in the back?  Because he presented his back to me.
Shoot him to the ground.  Shoot him in the head to prevent him from detonating
the bomb.  Why would you assume that he does not have a bomb?
The ninth shot could have been an accidental discharge.  Could have been in
response to a furtive movement.  Bad guy could have been wearing body armor,
or a bomb vest, requiring the ninth shot.

On the evening of May 29, 2021, Luis Casado shot and killed a man on a
sidewalk outside a bar in St. Augustine FL, after being subject by that man to
a barehanded attack.
Indicted on a charge of manslaughter with a weapon, Casado demanded
a self-defense immunity hearing, as permitted under Florida law.
The result of the four-day immunity hearing was a grant of immunity by
the hearing judge, freeing Casado of criminal liability for this killing, and
preventing the prosecution from bringing him to a costly, time-consuming,
and risky trial.

"The results are very different than what you might see on the ammunition
manufacturer’s website.  Most gelatin tests done by the factory are fired out
of guns with barrels at least four inches long.  Expansion is different when the
same bullet is fired from a snubby with significant less velocity.  Additionally,
most manufacturers report bare gelatin data.  Lots of rounds expand in bare
gelatin, but don’t expand in real bodies."
"In snub revolvers, most rounds fail to expand at all."

"Hollowpoint handgun bullets tend to plug with wool, Fiberfill, and whatnot as
they pass through the heavy winter clothing of a criminal assailant.  When plugged
with inert matter, they usually won’t expand.  This fact makes larger caliber bullets
popular in cold climes.  The two times I had to pick a single standard-issue sidearm
for Northern New England police departments we wound up with traditional
double action .45 caliber semiautomatics.  If the bullets were going to turn into
non-expanding ball projectiles, we wanted them to turn into big non-expanding
projectiles.  That said, high-tech hollowpoint designs like the Federal Hydra-Shok,
Remington Golden Saber, Speer Gold Dot, and Winchester SXT in .45 caliber are
likely to open up even after passing through heavy clothing.

Definitely what one would consider a bull barrel.  Large mass at 2.47 lbs / 1.12 kg.
That's why felt recoil [impulse = force X time, change in momentum per unit time]
is so low.

When I first got my FFL, I sold firearms, individually, as is.  I haven't done that
in decades.  When I sell, it will be a complete system, including cleaning kit.
Because if you leave it up to the customer / client to buy all the parts (belt, holster,
magazine pouch, flashlight, flashlight pouch, magazines, magazine loader,
cleaning gear, ear protection, eye protection, tools to fix or adjust things at the
range [like a wooden rod to punch a bullet out of a barrel], etc.)  he will inevitable
mess it up.  So you, the knowledgeable one, have to put together a weapon system
that works.  That means all the pieces work together, have been tested together,
not just individually.
A lot of pistols require work to make them function reliably, and not cause cuts
or callouses or bruises on the shooter's hands.
I always machine out the rear sight notch by 2 hundredths of an inch.  On the
plastic Glock sights, you can cut it out the white plastic with a razor or box cutter.
When it's all black, it works much better.  Yes, it matters.  If the shooter can't get
ample light on both sides of the front sight, she will scatter her shots horizontally.

A friend, who was learning to play the guitar said,
"You need long fingers to play the guitar."
     No, you don't.
"I can't reach the fret to form the chord."
Use a capo.  The frets are closer to each other as you move closer to the bridge.
"But then you're in a different key."
No.  Tune the guitar for the placement of the capo.
     "Oh, you can do that?"
Yes.  (That's what those electric tuners are for.)  [I admit there is a limit to
how loose you can make the strings before the guitar doesn't work anymore.
But, you can use heavier gauge strings.]
---
Similarly,
"My hands are too small.  I can't shoot a pistol."
Yes, you can.  Just get a pistol with a smaller grip (not necessarily a smaller pistol).
This may mean going to a single stack magazine instead of a double stack magazine.
This may mean going to a smaller cartridge.  This may mean having a gunsmith do
a grip reduction job on your grip.  (Tom Givens writes about having such a job done
on his pistols to make them fit his hands.)  You can remove all of the plastic grip
adjustments, and wrap tennis racquet (or bicycle handle bar) tape around the bare
grip.  Or, you can use the bare grip with all backstraps and side panels removed.
It might not be pretty, but that doesn't matter.
"My index finger can't reach the trigger."
Triggers can be replaced.  A gunsmith can move the trigger.  Just as some doctors
won't perform certain operations because of liability, some gunsmiths won't move
triggers.  Ah, but some will.  The experienced competent gunsmiths have the
confidence to do the job.  You may have to search to find one.  [Of course, any
gunsmith should be able to replace a 1911 trigger with one of appropriate pull
length.]
"But then I have to use a smaller cartridge."
You can shoot a more powerful version of that smaller cartridge, +P, +P+,
and many cartridges have commercially available more powerful loadings for
a cartridge that will fit in standard chambers.  Just got to check with the
manufacturer that your chamber can tolerate the higher chamber pressures of the
more powerful cartridges.  [If you're gripping tight, pushing with your firing side
hand, and pulling with your support side hand, you'll be able to control the more
powerful round.  Accuracy is technique, not strength.]
Go to a gun store and try the Sig Sauer P365 XL.  It has a grip that is small in
girth, but long enough to allow all of your fingers to be on the grip.  This is good,
because you won't pinch your hand between the grip and the magazine when
reloading.

     Assuming the Continuum Hypothesis.
     Assuming the Axiom of Choice.
Assuming the existence of an infinite number of Twin Primes.

Do you see how this describes an encryption and decryption.  Non-linear
transformation that conserves information.  And a different transformation
for every point in the space.  So your crypto-key can be the position in the
space.  Your session key can specify points in the space.
Just as you can use any book as a code book.  You may use any real world

make sense not to use this construct.

And then you can look at more efficient multiplication at the hardware level.
If your matrix entries are over the Integers, you could take advantage of the
Integers being a unique factorization domain to preprocess all integers into
products of prime powers.  And then . . .
If the data types of your programming language are not sufficient, there is bc.

Which you can modify.
If your matrix entries are over the Floating Point numbers, computer engineers
usually talk about floating point operations (flops) per unit time.  Floating point
numbers are a strangely distributed subset of the Rationals (depending on the
floating point definition / implementation).  Depending on how much error you
are willing to tolerate.

This is why it is so important for you to understand the physics.

The following is not rigorously correct nor complete.  I'm just paraphrasing
Robert Gilmore.
If you have zero operations and only one kind of element (a scalar), you have a set.
If you have one binary operation and one kind of element, you have a group.
If you have 2 binary operations and one kind of element, you have a field.
If you have 2 kinds of elements (scalars and vectors) and 2 binary operations
(scalar multiplication and vector multiplication), you have a vector space.
If you have 3 binary operations (addition, scalar multiplication, vector
multiplication) and 2 kinds of elements (scalars and vectors), you have an algebra.

Can you make a Dedekind cut in a Dedekind Domain?

You have to understand the physics to control the cryptosystem in the real world.
Gilmore says, you have to understand the math (Lie groups and Lie algebras) to
understand the physics.
Ya, it's hard.  That's why you can demand the big bucks.  That's why the bad
guys will try to kill you.  This ain't academia.  You're in the real world now.
(You're in the Fleet now, as Top would say.  e.g. Fleet Marine Force, Pacific)
You want to get the keys, you don't attack the cryptosystem, you bribe or
blackmail the humans.  You want to prevent or stop the development of the
cryptosystem, you kill the engineers.
A healthy new born goes for $50,000.  The address of a person in the witness
protection program goes for $5000.  Hiring a thug to kill you could cost $500, or

Gravitons are theoretically spin 2 particles.
The diagram of the electro-magnetic wave at 6:10 is wrong.  The E field and
B field are always 90 degrees out of phase.  The diagram shows them in phase.
     A matrix is a 2nd rank tensor.  A vector is a 1st rank tensor.  A scalar is a 0th
rank tensor.  Chris' statement that a Pauli vector is a ½ rank tensor is wrong, at 8:46.
     Danny Vass says,
Very excited for the series as a whole!  Unless I'm crazy there might be another
typo tho around 14:54, shouldn't the 3d rotation matrices have a 1 and not a 0 in
their (3,3), (1,1), and (2,2) components respectively?
     eigenchris says,
Yep that's right.  I think it's against the laws of physics for me to upload a video
without a typo somewhere.  I do my best, but there's always something.

"Why China Can't make Chips!" by serpentza
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKURE05_RPI
Ya, you need high tech equipment to build chips.  But more importantly, you have
to design the logic of the chip, or the logic of the parts so that you can program it
in the field (Field Programmable Gate Arrays).  And you have to understand the design.
Otherwise, you can't write a manual for it.  And if you can't document it, nobody else
can use it.  That's why the technical writers were paid $100,000 per year when I
worked in Silicon Valley back in the mid 90's.

"Ukrainian army issues instructional video telling
Russians how to surrender to a drone"
by Mia Jankowicz
https://www.businessinsider.com/ukraine-army-video-tells-russians-how-to-surrender-to-drone-2022-12
The article mentions Putin's activation of reservists.  This is false.  It was a draft
of civilians, not an activation of enlisted reservists already on contract.

I got a chance to talk to some Marines who just got out of Afghanistan.  They
took the long way home.  They were operating listening posts in the mountains.
They had stopped along the way to attempt to bring out some friendlies.  They
couldn't believe that the U.S. State Department had given a list of our people to
the Taliban.  The Taliban used the list to arrest and execute the named.  Criminal
stupidity runs rampant in the U.S. State Department (or perhaps it was intentional,
traitors do such things).  Remember how the U.S. State Department turned on
their own security forces, Blackwater?
A loyal driver asked them to get his daughter out.  She did not want to come
to America (didn't speak the language, didn't know the culture).  So they dropped
her in a safe place.  They asked me to take care of her, send her some money.
I don't know why people think I have money and resources.  I've been out a long
time, and even when I was in, I never had signature authority.  (I was never an
officer.  I was enlisted.)  I sent her some money.  Considering the exchange rate
on that day, it turned out pretty well.  The U.S. dollar still has some punch on
the foreign exchanges.
Brandon will never know the havoc he caused.  And neither will those who
vote for him.  Or, they won't care.
I have heard people say, every American should live abroad for a few years.
When they return, they will appreciate America.  True.  The problem is that if
you live with people for a time, you start caring for them.  You start feeling that
you have to help them.  I know missionaries who have had that experience.
You can't let go.
In the self-defense community, many instructors teach, "Don't get involved
with other people's problems."  Not my loved ones, not my problem.  Not my
circus, not my monkeys.  You have to think about protecting yourself, because
you are the source of income for your family.  Call 911 and be a good witness.
Ah, if it were so easy.

The Defense Intelligence Agency is corrupt at the top.

Of course, the corruption runs deep and is in the other agencies as well.
I knew several Marines who joined DIA after leaving the Corps.  They all told me
how disenchanting it was.

"I’m told that major military weapons systems (including small arms) purchasers,
including the US Military, are now demanding that manufacturers provide competent,
thorough training to go along with their product(s)."
"Friends in the distribution business tell me that armies ordering AKs,
(like Afghanistan), specify milled receivers (rather than stamped), because milled
receivers can be easily re-barreled when the old barrel is worn-out.  Of course,
this is of moot concern for the individual consumer (who will likely never shoot
enough to wear-out even one barrel), but large consumers (like armies) who
shoot a lot of rounds during training need to think about such things!"

Check out the Mosque of Hassan II in Casablanca, Morocco.
It is the largest mosque in Africa with the world's second tallest minaret
(210 meters) overlooking the ocean.  The finest Moroccan artisanship:
hand-carved stone and wood.
I have friends who travel around the world sight seeing.  They are not like us,
who work for a living.  I used to envy them.  But now that I am older and wiser,
I appreciate the life that God has given me.  And know that it is the best for me.
