----- Basics -----

"Better to stay out of trouble than get out of trouble."
-- Tactical Professor (Claude Werner)

“If you are reading this and can’t put your hand on your defensive firearm,
all of your training is wasted.” -- Col. Jeff Cooper

----- Aftermath -----
(You have to be alive to have these problems:  criminal and civil liability.)

“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him,
but because he loves what is behind him.”
― G.K. Chesterton

"That's a thing Episode 8: Post-incident planning considerations" by John Murphy

If you get a good insurance policy, they will give you a list of attorneys
that you can call to get the ball rolling on your behalf.  Keep your mouth shut.
Only speak to police to ask for your attorney to be present.  And then
KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!
You can be completely justified and talk yourself into a homocide conviction,
if you talk, e.g. Michael Andrew Drejka.  Police declined to arrest him because
it was self defense.  The Sheriff declined to press charges becasue it was
self defense.  Then Drejka spends 2 hours talking to police without his attorney.
The recording of his talk is played for the jury at his trial and he is convicted
of manslaughter.  Be smart.  Don't do this.
Everything you say will be used against you.  No matter what you say,
it will be twisted, taken out of context, and distorted to be used against you.
Your only defense is DON'T TALK!  No matter what the other instructors tell you,
don't talk to anyone except your attorney.  Don't even talk to the police with
your attorney present.  Let your attorney give the police a written statement.
DO NOT TALK TO ANYONE except your attorney.

Character counts.

Awareness, Avoidance, De-Escalation, and Escape

Advice from Maj. Dick Winters (World War II U.S. Paratrooper) --
#1 - Strive to be a leader of character, competence, and courage.
#2 - Lead from the front. Say, “Follow me!” and then lead the way.
#3 - Stay in top physical shape. Physical stamina is the root of mental toughness.
#4 - Develop your team. If you know your people, are fair in setting realistic
goals and expectations, and lead by example, you will develop teamwork.
#5 - Delegate responsibility to your subordinates and let them do their jobs.
You can’t do a good job if you don’t have a chance to use your imagination
or your creativity.  [What he means is delegate authority to your subordinates
to do the job, and assume responsibility for the results of the job, the acts
of your subordinates. -- Jon Low]
#6 - Anticipate problems and prepare to overcome obstacles.
Don’t wait until you get to the top of the ridge to make up your mind.
#7 - Remain humble. Don’t worry about who receives the credit.
Never let power or authority go to your head.  [As Abraham Lincoln said,
to know a man's true character, give him power. -- Jon Low]
#8 - Take a moment of self-reflection. Look at yourself in the mirror
every night and ask yourself if you did your best.
#9 - True satisfaction comes from getting the job done.
The key to a successful leader is to earn respect — not because of rank
or position, but because you are a leader of character.
#10 - Hang tough! — Never, ever give up.

"There are no victims, only volunteers.
You volunteer by looking uncertain and afraid.
You volunteer by being, as grass-eaters invariably are,
unprepared to confront the hazards of life."
—Jeff Cooper

What is situational awareness?
Who is around you and what are they doing?
Always be aware of who is around you and what they are doing.
That is Situational Awareness.

"It’s not about the odds, it’s about the stakes."
The probability of you being attacked may be very low.  That does not matter.
What you will lose, if you are not prepared, not aware, and don't act immediately
and decisively, is all that matters.

Jeff Cooper's Rules of Gun Safety
RULE I: ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED.
RULE II: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY.
RULE III: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET.
RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET.

John Farnam's rules to keep you out of trouble:
Don't go to stupid places.
Don't do stupid things.
Don't hang out with stupid people.
Be in bed by 10 PM.  Your own bed.
Don't look like a freak.
Don't fail the attitude test.

"You may be carrying a gun, but that gun is community property.
It belongs to whoever can control it and keep it in the fight.
Think about that before you decide to open carry." -- Greg Ellifritz
The point is, even if you don't have a gun, even if the bad guy
doesn't have a gun, some moron may provide the gun to whoever can get
it first.
When I was a child playing football in school, I caught a pass and
a player from the opposing team pulled the ball out of my arms and ran
it back for a touchdown.  What he did was completely within the rules.
I failed to hang on to the ball.  In a fight, there are no rules.
You've got to be willing to gouge his eyes to take the gun from him.
Otherwise, you've made the decision to lose.

Though I think a palm strike to the nose would be better than a
punch to the nose.  Punching is always problematic.
Yes, elbows and knees when in close.
You see what happens when there is a little stress.  That's why you
have to practice with a person who is bigger, stronger, and quicker than
you.  "At full force, at full speed." as Ralph Mroz says, "That's the

     Craig is the man.
Craig is correct.  You must fire downward.  Otherwise, you will likely hit
your arm that is behind the bad guy.  Especially if you are using any of the
+P rounds such as the Hornaday Critical Duty +P.  My testing indicates that
they will pass through a human body front to back.

I love the scene in John Wick 2 where three guys are racing to reload,
rather than using any hand-to-hand combat technique.  And of course,
John Wick wins the race and shoots the other two.
And the one handed chamber check.  So cool.
In Marine Corps boot camp, we were taught to tape our glasses up to our
foreheads so they won't fall off our faces.  May look goofy, but it works.

Earlier this evening, 17 August 2021, an FBI agent came to speak to us at
the Tennessee Firarms Associtaion meeting.  He showed us their SWAT gear and
explained what their SWAT team does and what their rules of engagement are.
For pistols, they use the 9mm Glocks and use Hornaday Critical Duty ammo.  The
box specified for law enforcement only.  No one knew if there was any
difference between that ammo and the kind that you can buy on the open market
that is labeled Hornaday Critical Duty +P.  If you know, please let me know.

Excerpt:
"First, generally speaking, velocity will increase with barrel length,
but not always.  Sometimes a shorter barrel will produce higher speed than
the longer barrel.  [Probably because it's a tighter barrel, initially
slowing the bullet giving the powder more time to burn, resulting in more
pressure. -- Jon Low]
Second, you can get significantly different speeds with barrels of the
same length.  Some barrels are slow or fast, depending on your perspective.
[What perspective?  Chronographs don't have a perspective. -- Jon Low]
Third, temperature might affect barrel length performance due to some
powders’ temperature sensitive nature."
[During WWII the Germans had an 88mm anti-tank gun with a tapered
barrel, got smaller toward the muzzle.  Just as a nozzle on a garden
hose, it greatly increased projectile speed.  But, anything that initially
delays the bullet will cause an increase in muzzle speed, because the
propellant has had more time to burn.  And is thus burning at higher
temperature and pressure, and is therefore burning more efficiently. -- Jon Low]

"China’s Three-child policy formally passed into law"
by OODA Analyst staff
https://www.oodaloop.com/briefs/2021/08/20/chinas-three-child-policy-formally-passed-into-law/
The ChiComs take control of China and implement a one child per family
policy enforced by baby murder and forced sterilization.  In 2016, they
change the policy to two children per couple.  In 2021, they change the
policy to three children per couple.  And yet their birth rate does not rise.
And nobody in their right mind immigrates to China (Except the North Koreans,
which tells you something about North Korea.)
Be scared.  Be very scared.  What is the historical consequence?  Conquest
and expansion to fill the ranks of their dwindling population and their
military in particular.  There is no point in conquering Japan, because
their population is plummeting.  For a myriad of social and economic reasons
the Japanese won't make babies.  The ChiComs have already lost a war with
Vietnam, so that option is out.  The Thai military presently runs the country
and is pretty strong, so that's not a good option.  Look at the map.  The
Chicoms have already conquered Tibet.  The life span in Nepal is so short
that if you or I went there, we'd be the oldest person in the country.
The Chicoms already own all of the infrastructure in Nepal.  So, taking Nepal
doesn't require an invasion.  You see what's left?
Russia's population is also declining.  Leaders are not stupid.  They
know what a declining population means.  They know what they have to do to
prevent disaster due to and aging and declining population.  And they will.
Why are the casinos (term used in Turkey and many Middle Eastern countries
for nightclubs) in Dubai flooded with Russian women?  Because the rate of
sterility of Russian men is sky high.
Propaganda (including the suppression of data) only goes so far.  You
can't change ghost towns and the inability to find workers or people at all.

"If you prepare for the emergency,
the emergency ceases to exist!"
-- Dr. Sherman House

"Defensive Use of Firearms" by Stephen P. Wenger, 2010. (I highly recommend.)
Excerpts:
"Until very recently, virtually all ammunition included lead-based
primers and bullets.  Manufacturers of ammunition with lead-free
primers usually advise using it only for training because its ignition
isn’t as dependable as that with the lead-based primers.
Avoid eating, drinking, and, if you still persist in doing so, smoking
while shooting.  Wash your hands and the facial area around
the mouth between shooting and engaging in those activities.  Be
cautious about shooting on indoor ranges where you can’t feel a
constant flow of air on the back of your neck and where you see
accumulated lead dust on the floor.
Small amounts of lead are briefly vaporized when conventional
ammunition is discharged in a firearm.  This vapor quickly condenses
to fine particles.  If you must shoot in an environment where you feel
the need to use a respirator while shooting, you must use one rated
for lead mists.  While swallowing a large lead bullet probably won’t
produce a measurable increase in your blood lead level, the particles
produced in lead mists and when bullets impact on steel backstops
and targets are small enough to dissolve in stomach acid, allowing
the lead to get into the blood.  Repeated exposure of this sort will
eventually produce toxicity, affecting almost all organ systems of the
body.  Additionally, the lead will get incorporated into bone, allowing
the lead to persist longer in the body, even after you take steps to
limit exposure.  Take all reasonable steps to avoid tracking these tiny
particles into your home, where they will find their way into carpeting
and upholstery and continue to find their way into your body for
years to come.  Take similar precautions while cleaning firearms and
reloading ammunition.  I now use one of the water-based bore cleaners
for all but high-power rifles in order to reduce exposure to other
potentially toxic chemicals that can be inhaled from the more traditional
solvents."
. . .
"The point is that the autonomic nervous system is an extension of
the central nervous system, and the adrenal glands are merely amplifiers
of the SANS [Sympathetic Autonomic Nervous System, as opposed to the
Parasympathetic Autonomic Nervous System -- Jon Low].  The epinephrine,
or adrenaline, released by the adrenal glands doesn’t even get into the
brain.  This is because it is a polar substance, meaning it tends to
remain in the watery environment of the blood rather than moving to the
fatty environment of the brain.  Some people argue that epinephrine plays
a role in shunting blood to different areas of the brain, but it can’t do
so until after the brain has had time to activate the SANS, which in turn
has to stimulate the adrenals, which have to release the epinephrine,
which then has to travel through the bloodstream.
My argument is that when fright or stress interferes with our
ability to perform, it is the result of what happens in the brain,
not the release of epinephrine.  Thus, if we are successful in our
inoculation process, we can limit the degradation of our fighting
skills."

When I was working at Marine Forces Pacific G-2 (G-2 is the
intelligence command) at Camp Smith in Hawaii, the staff NCO briefing
us on a mission told us to bring our own credit cards because we
might have to find our own way home.  (That was on the script.  Off
the record, he told us to bring gold coins.)  The brief for the guys
presently in Afghanistan included similar orders.
I had a girlfriend when I was attending the University of Hawaii.
She told me of her family's escape from Vietnam when the South fell.
Her father used gold coins to buy their way out.  I'm sure your loved
ones have done the same.  Anticipate and act.
When my parents traveled, they carried ransom insurance and told
me about it, so that there would be someone back home to activate the
policy and get the ball rolling.  (My father did not trust me to launch
a rescue.)  Insurance companies are not like emotional relatives,
they don't pay the ransom and pray that the kidnappers will release the
hostages.  It's just business.  They ensure that they don't get scammed.
And they never get scammed.  I'm sure your loved ones have a similar
insurance policy.  Find the insurance company.
The present POTUS and his appointed generals are not competent to
get our people out of Afghanistan.  (If they were competent, we would
not be in the present situation.)  Just as President Carter was not competent to
get our people out of Iran.  So, your best bet (and it is only a high
risk bet) is to hire a private firm to launch a rescue operation.  I
would suggest you approach the insurance company and explain to them
that a $500,000 rescue would be better than a $5,000,000 ransom payment.
(Of course, if you are the beneficiary if the principals are lost, I'm
talking to the wrong person.)
Insurance companies that sell such policies have a list of companies
that they can call on to launch a rescue.  Make sure the insurance company
understands that you signing the documents, as executor of the estate,
is contingent upon a rescue mission, not a body extraction, not a recovery
of remains.
If the insurance company is lost in space, ask the insurance company
to contact Lockheed Martin Middle East Services.  (Sorry, but I have been
out so long that all of my contacts are long since dead or retired.)
LMMES will tell them that they are not in that business.  But, someone
might call them back.  Let the insurance company handle it, don't get
involved.  You are emotionally involved.  Your judgment is compromised.
Don't get involved.
Remember, this is an intelligence driven mission.  There is no point
in doing anything until you know exactly where they will be and exactly
when they will be there.  You may have to set things up and wait for your
loved ones to contact you to give you that information.  God works on
His own time.  He can also do more than we can hope or imagine.

British English is different from American English.
For instance, in British English, "decillion" means 10^60,
that is the digit "1" followed by 60 zeros in a base 10
number system (decimal number system).  In American English,
"decillion" means 10^33, one followed by 33 zeros.  So,
there are 27 orders of magnitude difference between the
languages.

The word hexadecimal (base 16 number system) is a mish mash
of Greek and Latin.  More correct would be sexadecimal (Latin)
or hexadeka (Greek).

I was moving my personal library and realized many of my books
are for dead languages:  Latin, Old English, Middle English, Ada,
Prolog, and such.  If you are a scholar of dead languages, let me
know.  My books are looking for a good home.

 Hi Sheepdogs,

----- Basics -----

All mass murders occur in gun-free-zones, because there are no good guys
with guns to stop the bad guy.  In any place that is not a gun-free-zone,
a good guy with a gun will stop the bad guy before the number of casualties
reaches the level required to be considered a mass murder.  So, going into a
gun-free-zone is an act of stupidity.  Sending your children into a gun-free-zone
(such as a government school) is an act of criminal stupidity.
As Massad Ayoob likes to say, "Yes, it is that simple."

"Better to stay out of trouble than get out of trouble."
-- Tactical Professor (Claude Werner)

“The gun has been called the great equalizer, meaning that a small person
with a gun is equal to a large person, but it is a great equalizer in another
way, too.  It insures that the people are the equal of their government
whenever that government forgets that it is servant and not master of the
governed.  When the British forgot that they got a revolution.  And, as a result,
we Americans got a Constitution; a Constitution that, as those who wrote it were
determined, would keep men free.  If we give up part of that Constitution we
give up part of our freedom and increase the chance that we will lose it all.
I am not ready to take that risk.  I believe that the right of the citizen to
keep and bear arms must not be infringed if liberty in America is to survive.”
— Ronald Reagan

Just because you can't imagine how a child could get access to your pistol,
doesn't mean a child can't get access to your pistol.  In John's case, a
child who had recently learned to work door knobs was able to enter his
apartment because his roommate had left the front door unlocked.
In my case, coming home from work, I walked in to my apartment to find a
little girl in my apartment.  My friend, Olivia, was doing laundry and had
her niece, Gabby who was visiting from Ohio, with her.
So, you have to secure your guns, not just from burglars, but also from
little kiddies.  John was a single person without kids.  I was an empty
nester without kids.  But, kids appeared as if by magic.

Updated and corrected list of IDPA and IPSC matches in the Nashville, TN area.
Hi Sheepdogs,
When you shoot these matches, you should try to do so in a tactically
correct manner.
Do not rush to beat the clock and win the game; rather, move slowly
and carefully.  Shooting faster than you can think will lead to shooting the
wrong person, which will lead to criminal prosecution and civil law suits.
If at the end of the course of fire, the Safety Officer informs you that you
failed to engage a target, it means that you were going so fast that you
missed a bad guy, so he would have shot you in the back.
Do not crowd cover; rather, stay back away from corners, doorways,
and windows.  If you extend your pistol past a corner, the bad guy hiding
behind the corner will grab your pistol.  If you hug walls, you will be hit
by anything that ricochets off the wall.  Bullets do not ricochet off walls
as light reflects off of mirrors.  Most of the momentum perpendicular to
the wall will be absorbed by the wall and the bullet.  So, bullets tend to
skim along walls.
Do not muzzle no-shoot targets.  In the game, you will only be penalized
for actually shooting a no-shoot target.  But, if you muzzle a no-shoot
target you are violating Safety Rule II:  Never let the muzzle cover anything
that you are not willing to destroy.  And in the real world, you would have
committed an aggravated assault by pointing your pistol at an innocent
bystander.
Shoot whatever part of the target comes into view first.  If you move
far enough around cover to get the center of mass hit, then you have exposed
too much of your body.  Shooting the enemy's foot, elbow, etc. may not be
incapacitating, but it may be enough for a psychological stop.  If not, it
will at least inhibit the enemy's performance.  As you move around the corner,
you can get the center of mass shot when it comes into view.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, please ask.
(What's in back of your target in case your
bullet passes through your target or you miss your target.  What may run in
front of your target.  Remember, untrained persons will panic in high stress
situations and run around like chickens without their heads.  It is your
responsibility to NOT shoot the the innocent bystanders or the friendlies.)
These rules are not just for the gun range.  These rules must be obeyed
in combat. Otherwise, you will get friendly fire casualties, including shooting
yourself.  Oh, yes, I've seen it happen.
Cheers,
Jon

"Defending against terroristic mass murder" by Massad Ayoob

An argument for not getting involved.
If they are your loved ones, who are with you, you obviously know what's going on.
If they are an unrelated third party, DON'T GET INVOLVED.  (Just call 911 and
report it.)  If you rescue the woman getting beaten, she will tell the police that
you started the fight.  Because she loves her boyfriend or husband who was beating
her.  (If you don't think this is the norm for domestic violence situations, you
are in La La Land and need to get educated.)  And that's a best case scenario.
A worst case scenario would be you shooting a couple of scum bags who are
attempting to kidnap and rape a woman, only to find out that they were undercover
law enforcement officers attempting to make an arrest of the female criminal
suspect.  Now you've shot a couple of law enforcement officers.  Legally, it
doesn't matter what you thought.  Stupid people think all kinds of crazy things.
So, thinking something that was false is not a legal defense.  Your actions have
to be “objectively reasonable”, not just “subjectively reasonable”.  That's why
you have to know the law of self defense.  That's why you have to take a class.
This applies, no matter what weapon you use, including your bare hands.

"My husband and I are fairly evenly matched when it comes to our defensive

husband can collect all three of them in his arms and carry them with ease.
He’s also the family breadwinner. He’s capable of getting the rest of our
family to safety and can provide for our children long term if I don’t survive
a violent encounter. That makes flipping traditional gender roles a smart
choice for our family, and it might be for yours too."
[I've always advised my children that the parent who makes the most money
should be the one responsible for income and the other should be responsible
for child care.  I still believe that to be an economically correct strategy.

"Technique: (Slide) Rack City, Rack Rack City" by Mark Luell
https://www.growingupguns.com/2016/07/25/justletitgo/
It's good to know several techniques for any given task.
Just in case.

My recommendations in order of preference are:
1.  Point all five fingers forward and gouge the eyes with
the intention of penetrating to the brain.  If your
fingers are long enough to reach the brain, you have a
central nervous system hit.  If the enemy is wearing
glasses or goggles, strike up under the eye protection.
This will cause blindness, giving you time to escape.
2.  Palm strike to the nose with the intention of driving
the nose into the brain.  While driving the nose into the
brain may not be feasible, it's the thought that counts.
This will usually cause bleeding, tearing, and
temporary blindness; giving you time to escape.
3.  Stomp with all your weight on the foot as close to
the ankle as possible (not the toes, he may be wearing
steel toed shoes).  The small bones in the foot are
easily broken.  This prevents him from chasing you,
allowing your escape.
4.  Elbow and knee strikes with the intention of breaking
bones.  If you are not hitting hard enough to break bones,
you just need to practice.  You'll be able to break boards
within a thousand repetitions and by two thousand, you'll
be hitting hard enough to break bones.  (Hey, if I can
do it, you can do it.  You've seen me.  I'm a wimp.)

I think paying the tuition and showing up is already a huge

You've got to have a credible basis for believing they are engaged
in criminal activity to ask them to leave.  And in such a case,
I would give them a full refund.  Not because I believe they would
come back and shoot the place up, but rather because I believe it's

that used to be director of training at the MNPD, if carrying the pistol with

"No they are taught round in chamber and fully loaded magazine.
He violated training and policy."

Private security to government security is about 3 to 1.
Do you remember the gang leader (of what was an obvious reference to the Crips)
in the movie "Warriors" citing a statistic that the combined manpower of the gangs
was 5 times the manpower of the police, if they just united.

Why being private security is better than being a government law enforcement
officer -
". . . private police agents, being constitutionally classed as citizens
(unless officially deputized), can legally do things that public police cannot.
For example, there is no constitutional protection against unreasonable search
and seizure by private citizens.  There is no requirement for private security
agents to issue Miranda warnings. There are no exclusionary rules for evidence
obtained through unauthorized searches or questioning conducted by private agents."
-- Sklansky, David A., “The Private Police,” UCLA Law Review 46 (4) (1999):
1165-1287, 1245-1246.
I would also add that the rules of engagement are much better for private
security officers.  As a Marine Corps Military Policeman, we were required to
say, "Halt! Military Police." before using any force.  That is seven syllables
of time to get shot and hit.  Bureaucratic stupidity.
The private citizen need not say a word before shooting.  And it is often
tactically sound to be be silent before the first shot.  In the Fleet Marine
Force Pacific (I assume it's the same in the Atlantic though I never operated
there) we used hand signals until the first shot, and then we started yelling.

"5 things to know about the new changes to South Carolina’s open carry gun law"

This is a Yahoo!news article, because the original article in "The State"

"South Carolina Governor McMaster signs open carry with permit gun bill into law.

that is not behind a pay wall, but it doesn't have the important details.

History of Gun Confiscation
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control.
From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control.
From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and
from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and
others who were unable to defend themselves were
rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935.
From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964.
From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970.
From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956.
From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

"Nothing in the world is more dangerous
than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."
--  Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968)

Update of a previous post --
The Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America
has unanimously voted to allow homosexual Scout leaders.
They know of the Catholic priest scandals (predominantly
homosexual molestation and sodomy).  But, political
correctness trumps logic.  The problem is that actuarial
tables are statistical, not political.  The insurance
for Boy Scouts has historically been the lowest in the
industry.  Just as insurance for the Catholic church
has sky rocketed, so will the insurance rates for the
Boy Scouts.  Statistics don't lie.  The insurance
companies will not cover the loses to maintain the
facade of political correctness, because it will eat
into their profits.
Update:  The Boy Scouts of America filed bankruptcy, because
they can't pay all of the judgements against them due to
homosexual abuse perpetrated by Scout leaders against Scouts.
     What's the point, Staff?
The point is that many junior shooting clubs and
teams rely on Boy Scout insurance, because the cost
is negligible.  But, in the near future the cost will
be prohibitive.  The insurance companies are not stupid.
They are not going to wait for the statistics to change.
They have already started to adjust their rates.
This is a backdoor way to attack the junior shooting
sports.  Liberals don't care about homosexuals.
Liberals know that their enemy is the pro-gun conservative.
They know that if they can prevent children's exposure to
guns, they have a much better chance of turning the child
into a gun fearing pussy.
Which sport should I put my child in?  Which
sport is safest?
Look at the cost of insurance that that sport
pays.  Riflery has by far the lowest insurance costs
because the coaches of that sport are decent, God
fearing people.
The sports with high insurance rates are forced
to pay those costs because the coaches have sex with
the athletes, not because of injuries.  I learned
this by attending coaches courses at the Olympic
Training Centers in California and Colorado.  The
worst offenders are swimming and gymnastics.

"The 50 Rules" by Brent Wheat
https://gunsmagazine.com/our-experts/the-50-rules/
Excerpts:
3. . . .
[I turned in my plate carrier as soon as I could.  Those things are heavy,
hot, and nasty (I suppose it's theoretically possible to clean them, but it's
really hard).  We had to wear them in training because you have to train as you
fight.  Being able to carry a 155mm shell on each shoulder from the ammo truck
to the gun, does not mean you can do it with a plate carrier on.  And for wimps
like me, being able to carry one shell was a struggle. -- Jon Low]
6. The more combat a person has seen, the less likely they are to talk about it.
[Well, I don't know about that.  I've found that the younger kids like to
talk about their adventures.  The older guys suppress the conversation, because
they fear the legal repercussions.  Or, maybe that's just me. -- Jon Low]
19. We should do more to include our loved ones in crisis preparation and training.
28. If you don’t practice a movement at least 500 times (some say 2,000),
you will never perform it correctly under stress. This is an iron-clad,
unbreakable rule we all ignore.
35. If you can’t tie a trustworthy knot, change a tire, kill your own food or
perform basic first-aid procedures, you are not really prepared.

This whole Covid-19 thing has been political from the beginning.
The COO of Souther Hills Medical Center told me that they get about $39,000
per Covid diagnosis in federal and state funds, so of course they are going
to list anything with Covid like symptoms as a Covid case.  (Actually, they
list every diagnosis as Covid, especially if it's a death, because there is
no one to argue about it.)

Many of you have received requests to train persons in Mexico.  The pay is
very high.  The hotel accommodations are 5 star.  You will be well fed.  The
commercial airlines tickets are first class.  They have people who will set up
the range as you wish, and take care of copying and binding your handouts for
your students.  No shortage of ammunition or spare guns.  You'll never have to
repair, just grab another.  Your skill with the Latin American Spanish language
has really paid off.
So, why do you ask my advice?  Do you expect me to talk you out of it?
That would be my character.  This is your test.  Consider, that any employer
who pays bonuses in young women to sleep with you is very different from one
who pays in cash.  When I returned from the Middle East, I had a check from
Lockheed Martin Middle East Services for $85,000.  The Customs agents were
concerned, but let me through.  If you return with ounces, nay pounds, of pure
cocaine, what do you think will happen?  You have no SCIF to smuggle it back in.
Do you think your friends are so powerful that they are above the law?  El Chapo
thought that, as did Manuel Noriega.  No, you are not the Minister of Defense
of Mexico.  And we all know how that turned out in the end.
Perhaps you think you will be as the "Lord of War".  That was a good
movie and a true story.  But, the audience often misses the most significant
lines, "My brother was dead.  My family had disowned me.  My wife had left
me and taken my child."  He does not try to reconcile with his wife and family.
He is looking for the next war.  Because making money and the excitement of
the next deal was more important than his family.  His soul is dead.

"Wagner: Scale of Russian mercenary mission in Libya exposed"
by Ilya Barabanov & Nader Ibrahim
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-58009514
In the Marine Corps we were taught to never surrender, unless ordered
to do so by a higher ranking officer.  But, that was tongue in cheek.
We would never surrender, no matter where the order came from.  To surrender
is to be killed or tortured to death, worse if you're a woman.
In recruit training and in the baby infantry school for POGs we were
taught to never take prisoners.  What are you going to do with them?
You can't allocate Marines to guard them.  The Marines are needed for the
mission.  You don't have supplies to feed, house, clothe them or provide
for their medical needs.
It's not a war crime.  It's just normal operations.

For instance, blood and sex.  A large portion of blood sold for money
has to be discarded because it is contaminated, whereas blood donated
free of charge is almost all usable (male homosexual activity is
disqualifying).  Sex with a prostitute runs a very high risk of
venereal disease, whereas free sex has a very low transmission rate
(depending on the promiscuity of your partner; no, no, depending on
your promiscuity).

Cal Tech put "Feynman's Lectures on Physics" online.
http://www.feynmanlectures.caltech.edu/
Why is the mass and charge of every electron
we measure exactly the same (within our ability to measure)?
Feynman:  "Because there is only one electron."  (Meaning,
there is only one electron in the universe.  Every electron we
measure is exactly the same physical electron, not a different
electron.)
John Wheeler, Feynman's advisor, first suggested this theory.
Prof. Feynman would make these deep mind boggling
statements as casual small talk.
That statement is right up there with Prof. Segre’s
statement, “The spin of a neutron about its symmetry
axis is conceptually meaningless.”  [Segre was referring
to classical spin, not quantum mechanical spin.]

     And so it starts.

There is nothing worse than preparing for the
wrong apocalypse.  The Zombie apocalypse will
probably never happen.  The Robot apocalypse
has already displaced millions of human workers
worldwide.  Robots have already killed humans.
Algorithms implemented as computer programs
(software robots) are deciding who is
associating with whom, and therefore who is an
enemy, and hence, who to kill.  This use to be
done by human intelligence officers.
Stocks and options are traded in micro-seconds.
Electrical signals travel about a foot in a
nano-second.  That's why it's so important for
the trader to have his computer physically close
to the Exchange computers.  Do you think humans
are making these trades?  My friends at Bloomberg
(a college classmate) and Credit Suisse (a house
mate from Isle of Palm, SC) build and sell financial
weapons, algorithms -> software -> robots.  These
robots control the money and are actively fighting
each other to get more money.  Yes, it's an arms race.
Neural networks (a well defined technology) monitor
these bots (software robots) and learn and improve
the algorithms that the bots use.  So, they are
getting smarter and better (stronger).  It is very
much like a parent teaching a child or a coach
guiding an athlete.
