Bill asks,
---
Hi Jon,
All the flashlights I am finding for
$50 or less with a tailcap switch use
that switch for both momentary on and,
with a firmer push, constant on.  Is
this acceptable?  Example: the
Streamlight ProTac 2L 350 lumen model.
     Seemingly, all lights that are
otherwise acceptable have 3 modes of low,
high, and strobe.  This function
is also "programmable" through the tailcap.
How do you feel about this?
---
Hi Bill,
     Yes, that is acceptable.
     Programmable flashlights are not necessary.
You will find that you will program to the simplest setting.
We have to keep things simple.  Because in a high
stress situation, easy things become difficult and
difficult things become impossible.  And Hick's Law says,
the fewer choices you make, the faster you go; and the
fewer options you have to decide from in each choice,
the faster you go.
Hick, W. E., “On the Rate of Gain of Information”,
Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology,
Vol. 4, p11-26, 1952.
So, press-on, release-off is good.  Anything more
complicated than that is bad.
Cheers,
Jon

***** Instructors *****

Vicki Farnam and Diane Nicholl recommend that you ask
women in your long gun classes if they have metal or
plastic tabs on the front straps of their bras.
If these are under the butt of the long gun when fired,
they can cut the skin.

Excerpt:
     To paraphrase Tom Givens
‘You don’t get to choose when you’re going to
have to defend yourself, the criminal does.
And they are only going to notify you at the
last possible moment.’

Dr. Lara Boyd describes how neuroplasticity
gives you the power to shape the brain you

     Oh, so true.
Prof. Lady (University of Hawaii, Math
Department) advocated the struggle.  So, he
would never give us the answers.
10,000 hours.  How many have you executed?
Strive to match teacher to student.  Teachers,
adapt to your student.

She's from Croatia.  Croatia makes a great pistol
(the Springfield Armory XD).  And she's playing in a
church here in Nashville.

My friend, Tom,  is making a gun belt (with the
help of Terry and Edith of Triple J Leather in
Dowelltown, TN) by sewing two pieces of leather
around a piece of steel banding strap (the stuff you use
to hold crates together).  I'll let you know how it turns out.
